Suggested January 2024 What’s The Best Ppc Bidding Strategy?

In this installment of Ask Me Anything About PPC, we’ll tackle this question from Suleman in Lawrenceville.

“Which is the best bidding strategy since Google continues to add new bidding strategies-Smart bidding, Manual CPC, CPA, ROI, Max Conversion? I tested CPA and Manual CPC and faced challenges with CPA. The CPA campaigns starts performing well then as time goes it slows down drastically. Manual CPC always has been my favorite. I understand that the bidding strategy is based on your company goals and return on your investment but Any bidding strategy is your favorites?”

Spoiler: The answer will be it depends.

In order to answer this question, we’ll need to break down each bidding strategy by:

Objective: What each bidding strategy focuses on.

Function: How it will adjust bids to meet the objective.

Pros and cons.

Once we have this information, we can come up with the “best” bidding strategy for us in the moment we need it.

Bidding strategies are broken up into three core families:

Smart bidding: Conversion-based.

Auto bidding: Function-based.

Manual: Human-based.

While all bidding strategies have some degree of human input (budget/bid caps/goals/etc.), only manual bidding fully embraces humans owning the task.

It’s worth noting that Google makes it hard to choose manual bidding, which can be found here:

As the functions of these strategies remain effectively the same, we are leaving the old descriptions up.

Target Cost Per Acquisition (CPA): Risk-Averse Maintenance Mode Objective

Spend the stated daily budget, while driving as many conversions as possible at the requested CPA.

This bidding strategy won’t chase volume or differentiate between conversions of higher/lower value.

It will strive to bring in conversions at the requested CPA.

This means you may have some conversions at a higher CPA, as well as conversions at a lower CPA.

While there isn’t an official conversion threshold, most campaigns need at least 60 days of accurate conversions coming in around the CPA you will ask for.

Ideally, you’ll also have at least 15 conversions during this period.

If you have a proven account, and all conversions are worth the same, this strategy is great for consistent maintenance mode.

Brands that have hard cost per lead (CPL) maximums will have more control over that metric than on any other bidding strategy.

Google no longer requires a set number of conversions in a 30 day period to run.

Because it can’t differentiate between conversion values, you may need to create more campaigns (with unique budgets) for parts of the business based on margins.

Volume will be impacted as the ad network passes up potential prospects to bring you conversions at your requested CPA.

Depending on other settings (budget, targets, etc.), this strategy has a high risk of under-bidding/spending and can only be reliably used once a campaign has been running for a while.

Useful in legacy campaigns that are expected to serve a single goal with an agreed-upon value.

Not ideal for exploring new markets/services, or for brand new accounts.

Target Return on Ad Spend (ROAS): Business Acumen-Driven Bidding Objective

Invest the budget in prospects who have the highest chance of converting at the highest value.

Target ROAS is a hero among bidding strategies because it focuses on conversion value over volume.

A prerequisite of the strategy is setting up conversion values for each conversion (I prefer to do this through analytics).

Google requires at least 15 conversions in a 30 day period to run – I’d encourage you to wait till you have at least 30-50.

Budget is invested where it can do the most good, balancing volume and ROI.

Enables more seamless reporting through profit entering the equation.

No longer requires hundreds of conversions, making it accessible to lead gen as well as ecommerce.

Requires knowledge of business operations to give conversion values – could be an obstacle for newer businesses.

Due to the conversion requirement, cannot be used right away.

This strategy will underspend or overspend if the ROAS goal, budget, and keywords/targets aren’t aligned.

Target ROAS is where we all want to get to, however, some of the requirements preclude newer businesses/novice marketers.

*Max Conversion Value behaves the same (just no conversion thresholds or goals).

Advertisers can set a bid cap (I recommend 10% of the daily budget), or leave it open (don’t do this).

If you use this strategy, uncheck Search Partners and Display in Search campaigns, otherwise, the budget might be misdirected to lower value placements.

Be sure campaigns only ave one strategic focus (not mixing branded and non-branded ideas), otherwise high volume ideas could steal budget from lower volume ideas.

Doesn’t require conversions to function.

Good way to ramp up campaigns quickly.

Learn which keyword concepts fit and at what cost.

Focuses on cheap volume over profit (meaning higher value prospects could lose out on your marketing budget).

If the keywords chosen are too expensive, you could end up with no volume at all.

Inherently requires more negative work.

Great strategy for early days/low search volume industries, but not a long-term strategy.

Maximize Conversions: Everything Is Worth the Same ‘Button Mashing’ Objective

Drive as many conversions as possible (regardless of value or cost per lead).

Ad network will attempt to drive as many conversions as possible within the given budget.

They won’t pay attention to the conversion action or repeat rate.

This bidding strategy can only be used if you 1000% trust your conversions and only include high-value conversions.

Balances volume and value.

If conversions are worth the same, great for consistent growth.

Doesn’t require a conversion threshold.

This strategy will miscalculate budget, if conversions aren’t working the same or if there’s double counting.

It will spend the budget with no consideration for ROAS (return on ad spend).

If you don’t have any conversion actions set up, you can’t run the strategy.

While amazing at delivering volume for simple conversion paths, it’s a messy strategy for complex consumer journeys.

Target Impression Share: Data Acquisition Ego Bidding Objective

Achieve desired impression share in the desired location within the budget.

Be sure to choose at least 60% at the top of the page.

Choosing anywhere on the first page can cause “false positives” on impression share + auction price.

Bid caps should not exceed 10% of the daily budget. If impression share has been a problem, test 15% above your average CPC.

Campaigns requiring high impression share (i.e. branded) can be on “autopilot”.

Learn whether your desired keyword concepts fit the budget.

Helps mobile-oriented campaigns secure ideal placements (#1 spot).

Risk of bidding war on unproven terms.

If keywords/targets aren’t aligned, could lead to low/no volume.

Great for branded/competitor campaigns and early days campaigns, however not a winning strategy for proven conversion campaigns.

Manual Bidding: Micromanager’s Paradise Objective

Advertiser controlled bids, leveraging bid adjustments over bidding goals.

Manual bidding requires unique bids for each keyword. These bids can be conservative (closer to the top of page bid), or aggressive (bidding for the absolute top or higher).

Advertisers have access to the following bid adjustments:

The more aggressive the bid, the less aggressive the bid adjustment.

It’s important to note most bid adjustments are only available as exclusions or will adjust the TCPA/ROAS on auto/smart bidding.

Be sure to check your adjustments as you switch between the bidding strategies.

Ultimate control.

Audience bid adjustments allow for precise message mapping.

No official learning period to worry about.

Deprived of the 60+ signals ad networks use in auto/smart bidding.

More manual work to monitor and update.

Easy to overbid by including too many bid adjustments (they’re cumulative).

Great for seasoned marketers and those who want to layer in their own ideas on the perfect prospect.

So Which Is the Best?

Once I’m able to unlock enough conversion data I trust, I’ll usually switch to TROAS or Max conversions (I’m highly regimented in conversion actions and only include high-value events).

What’s The Best Facial For Your Age?

Your skin is receiving a beating from the elements, including the sun, filth, grime, pollution, and stress. It’s possible that you won’t notice it right away, but the effects will become more obvious with time. Dehydration due to the sun creates fine wrinkles and discoloration. There is also the possibility that you may get the break necessary to adhere to a face regimen that is tailored to your specific needs.

Facial Treatment

There is a facial treatment out there that can make anybody, regardless of the year they were born, feel revitalized, fresh, and shining after receiving it. It’s common knowledge that the majority of women, as well as many men, spend a lot of time and effort trying to hide the tell-tale symptoms of aging. Even while there are a lot of different therapies available, which may help us accept the natural process of aging while also making us feel ok) younger than we really are, it can be challenging to find our way through all of the possibilities.

When time is tight and even buying a cup of coffee seems like a long facial is definitely not high on the priority list. However, dermatologists agree that it is an essential component of an anti-aging routine.

Take a peek and discover what the world of beauty facials can do for you by looking at the following: Acne, hormones, and oily skin are the hallmarks of the 20s.

You probably aren’t concerned about your skin or your beauty regimen at this point in your life. You’re not paying attention because you’re too preoccupied with work, staying out late with pals, and having fun in the sun. On the other hand, while you’re in your 20s, you should start laying the framework for how you’re going to keep that young glow later in life. When most people reach the age of 20, they are just beginning to rid themselves of adolescent acne and are making progress toward smoother skin. Going to the spa once a month for a facial or body treatment will help you see an herbal, not heavy product that is herbal, not heavy, and gives a moisturizing therapy to bring the skin back into equilibrium.

At Home − Practising good skin care should need as little concentration as brushing one’s teeth. Develop the routine of following a regular skincare routine that consists of four steps: cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are two active substances that may physically filter the sun’s rays. Look for products that include them. Keep your face clean, and under no circumstances should you go to bed with makeup on.

In the Spa − Clay and kaolin masks, also known as china or white clay, are used in facial treatments that provide a deep clean by removing impurities from the skin. These impurities include dirt and excess oils. Exfoliation, the opening of clogged pores, and increased circulation are all benefits of using fine clay particles. This results in increased nutrition delivery to the cells. A mask containing natural extracts of chamomile or aloe will be soothing to the skin if it is dry or sensitive.

The 30’s: The Initiation of Lines and Wrinkles, Even the Slightest Ones

At this point, your skin will begin to go through a series of transitions. A facial should enhance your skin by moisturizing, rebalancing the sebum production, and re-establishing the moisture balance. In this decade, hormones have the upper hand. And this may result in breakouts, whether they are brought on by your menstruation, pregnancy, or stress. All of these factors might cause oil glands to go into overdrive. Adult acne affects one out of every five women between the ages of 25 and 40.

Eczema is a persistent disorder that causes red, cracked areas on the skin. Stress and fluctuating hormone levels may also be the cause of eczema, along with blotchy, itchy skin and other forms of inflammation.

There is also a possibility that you may see indications of aging, such as crow’s feet, smile lines, and abnormal pigmentation. The use of sunscreen and antioxidant supplements regularly, such as vitamins E, C, and A, as well as beta-carotene and quercetin, is recommended by medical professionals as a preventative measure against these visible indications of aging.

At the Spa − Acne-prone skin that is not treated will only become worse with time. Facials are a great tool for warding off acne, especially if you have a history of the condition. Sebum, the greasy and fatty discharge linked with acne, may be removed from pores blocked by having an aesthetician’s extractions. Perform not attempt to do this on your own since, if done poorly, it might result in scarring. Keep an eye out for cosmetic treatments that are labeled as “clarifying” or “purifying.” They include active components that are derived from fruit acids that may exfoliate the skin, such as papaya, cranberry, pumpkin, cherry, and berry. These may assist in clearing up congested skin, removing excess oil, and smoothing out dry, flaky skin.

At home − You should steer clear of compounds that include synthetic perfumes and items that are based on petroleum. These things have the potential to irritate the skin and clog pores. Instead, choose light gels that are non-occlusive, which means they won’t cause pores to get blocked.

Stick to natural chemicals, such as those derived from fruits and vitamins, since they will help exfoliate and repair healthy skin cells. Keep an eye out for exfoliating components like willow bark extract (a natural source of salicylic acid), beta-hydroxy acid, and citrus extracts, as well as fruit enzyme peels. To maintain clean skin, treat it once a week with a peel or a mask.

The Dilemma of Having thin Skin in the 40s

The outermost layer of the skin starts to droop as the natural flexibility of the skin and the amount of collagen in the skin continues to deplete. Not only has the skin begun to thin down and show more wrinkles, but also, age spots and uneven skin tone are more visible at this time as a result of long-term sun exposure.

At Spa − Glycolic, beta-hydroxy, or enzyme peels remove dead skin. If the skin is sensitive, skip the peel and have an antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory facial with pomegranate, grapeseed, rose-hip, green tea, or vitamin C. Licorice extract, soy proteins, and Indian gooseberry diminish hyperpigmentation in facials. Hydrating masks reduce wrinkles.

At Home − To acquire a glow, exfoliate at least three times a week, less if the skin is sensitive. This exfoliates and helps moisturizers penetrate. Dry skin needs a weekly mask and daily serum. Retinol (vitamin A) reverses UV damage, while rosehip oil (vitamin C) moisturizes. Look for products containing peptides, retinol, vitamin C, and antioxidants like green tea and resveratrol. These boost cell blood flow, collagen formation, and cell protection from free-radical chemicals.

The 50s What can you do to make this thing as Firm as it was before?

Deep frown and smile lines, crow’s feet, thinning lips, and sunken eyes are common.

At the Spa − Get a “hydrating” or “firming” facial with masks and botanical oils to fully hydrate. Seaweed and algae treatments tighten and moisturize skin with vitamins and trace minerals.

At Home − Evening primrose, sea buckthorn, carrot seed, borage, and geranium oils and intense moisturizing components plump up and offer antioxidant vitamins A and C to thin, dry skin. These initiate skin renewal and collagen and elastin synthesis. Seaweed or algae-based firming treatments provide vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants and prevent elastin fiber degradation.

Apple Tablet: What’s The Killer App?

So, today’s the day: Apple is expected to unveil its oft-rumored tablet computer to the world. The growing consensus is that this device will run the iPhone OS or something close to it, have a 7- or 10-inch touchscreen, and be geared towards displaying all kinds of media content including newspapers, magazines, and videos. The tablet will supposedly have a persistent 3G connection similar to the Kindle, but there isn’t a firm consensus on whether or not the device will have Wi-Fi, a camera, or Webcam. But you know, I just can’t help thinking that the closer we get to Apple’s event, the more the tablet sounds like it’s going to be a glorified iPod Touch.

Product Gap Theory

Many tablet prognosticators rely on the theory that Apple’s product lineup is missing something between the iPhone and the 13-inch MacBook. But before the tech world was talking about an Apple tablet, it was talking about an Apple netbook. Non-Apple netbooks have been around for a while, but it really wasn’t until late 2008 and early 2009 that pundits took notice of netbooks as a growing market segment. People loved these mini-laptops because they were cheap, small, and able to run Windows XP.

Just before netbooks became popular, analysts and reporters started asking Apple CEO Steve Jobs whether his company would produce a netbook as other tech companies were starting to do. Jobs’ answer was a resounding no. “We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk, and our DNA will not let us ship that,” Jobs said in late 2008 during a conference call with Wall Street analysts.

In light of the netbook phenomenon, a lot of people were talking up the product gap in Apple’s lineup and convinced something had to go there. So after Jobs poured water on the Apple netbook idea, rumors of a large iPod Touch started emerging. It didn’t take long before the netbook rumor was gone, and tablet madness had gripped tech writers everywhere.

Apple Invasion

The other problem with the tablet is that it’s a big risk for Apple. Well, based on what the tech world thinks it knows about this device anyway. Historically, Apple invades established markets–it does not create them.

Content is Big

I’ve said it, Wired has said it, and many others have also said it: content is going to be key for the tablet. Apple is expected to unveil on Wednesday, alongside the tablet, new formats of print media that will supposedly revitalize the publishing industry. Most pundits are saying Apple will deliver these new forms of content via the iTunes Store. But if that’s the case, will this content be accessible on other devices? If content is king it wouldn’t make much sense to restrict new media formats to the tablet, but open them up to as many platforms as possible.

Back to Square One

So is there something more to the tablet than all these worn out rumors? Does Apple have a secret up its sleeve that nobody’s been able to discern, leak, or predict? CrunchGear has an interesting breakdown of supposed tablet specs leaked by tech entrepreneur Jason Calcanis.

The most recent Apple events have been ruined by a slew of rumors that leave little to the imagination by the time Jobs & Co. hit the stage. But this time, there just has to be something more to this device than we’ve already heard. Don’t you think so?

Dynamic Search Ads

You can open Dynamic Search Ads up to your whole site or specific pages within your site.  This will help people to not have to manage every little part and find keywords and manage your campaign.  I would however make sure that Google is bidding on keywords that you should be bidding on.  Giving any system full control over your account without checking it could mean that you are losing a lot of money every month.  Make sure that you are only promoting the pages that you want to get traffic to and feel comfortable spending money on.

This system is in beta and you can apply for yourself or your clients here.

AdWords Express Available in UK and Germany

One very nice thing about AdWords Express is that your business will shown in two different places for each search that a person performs if you are optimizing your Google Places account.  When people see your business in two different places on the same page, they will naturally give your business more trust.  This will help your business get more customers. Google is trying to help local business with an easy to use system that takes 10 minutes to setup and you don’t have to do much after that.

Router Mode Vs Bridge Mode – What’s The Difference

You’ve probably seen the setting that lets you choose whether to run the device as a bridge or a router while navigating through the network configurations. The purpose for both of these modes is the same, i.e, to offer network connectivity over a larger coverage area.

However, some minor technical intricacies make these two modes totally different in how they operate. In this context, we’ll compare these two networking modes today and recommend the best option to get the most out of your internet experience.

In router mode, IPs of devices connected are stored in tables and most viable route is selected to transfer data. The IPs can be given dynamically by the device or defined by user.

A router is involved in receiving the packets with the destination address attached to them and, forwards the packets to the receiver in the most convenient route. This process of forwarding the data is called dynamic routing.

It connects the LAN with the WAN. The router Converts an IP from one class to another using a process called Network Address Translation (NAT).

Router Mode is just to make the networking device function as a Router. Generally, the Modem/Router combo offered by the ISPs is, by default, set to the Router mode. However, if you use multiple routers for Wi-Fi range expansion, a private set of IPs created by the router generates conflict and can cause issues on the network. This is what is known as the Double NAT.

Router Mode

The router mode also supports multiple authentication methods, making it a more flexible option while setting up a connection.

Ideal for connecting  Remote Networks

Brings the benefits of NAT

Enables more security Layers

Supports Multiple connection types (Dynamic IP/Static IP/PPPoE)

Dynamic Routing can consume Bandwidth

Double NAT becomes imminent when multiple devices are connected in router mode

Bridges use source and destination MAC before forwarding packets, contributing to less network congestion. Bridging essentially is the process of connecting two networks and making them function as one.

Now, getting into Bridge mode, is a setting that can be configured to make networking devices work simultaneously and extend the port access to a wider area. This configuration will disable the Network Access Translation (NAT) on one of the routers and turn it into a layer 2 device (On OSI) and extends the LAN.

Bridge Mode

With the IP assigning or NAT turned off, the router will not work as a DHCP server, which reduces the IP address conversion time. This can also be said as the latency of transferring the data between two points is relatively faster because of reduced data hops.

Traceroute Command

Enabling the bridge mode on a primary networking device will take away the routing capability from the device, if present. Configuring a device to work on the bridge mode renders the WAN port useless since the device is typically non-existent apart from extending the primary connection.

Extends network coverage over a larger area

Negates the possibility of Double NAT

Can work Between Firewalls

Offers high network reliability

Service providers might not support the device

Cannot Configure Source or Destination NAT

Limited IP pools and devices

From an OSI model perspective, the router is a Level three device that performs the routing of traffic in an extended network. Routers are referred to as the network’s gateway as they forward the packets from one network to another. This is the normal modus operandi when a networking device is set to run on a Router mode.

Router With OSI Layer

A bridge is a network framework segregating the LAN into segments and dividing the traffic into those segments. On an OSI Model, it works on the Data Link layer. Bridges are used to overcome the limitations of the bus topology by reducing network traffic and limiting bandwidth usage. Thus, enabling the Bridge mode does this function by converting the networking device into a bridge.

Bridge with OSI Layer

Getting into other differences between these two modes, we can find some major divergences in their performance, security, usage, and specialization.

When it comes to the packet transfer process, a router mode works efficiently by directing them to just the necessary destination. This helps in reducing traffic and boosts the overall performance of the network. However, Bridge mode provides flexibility to connect many devices, extend the range of the Network and improve the network speed.

When two routers are connected to each other, there is the possibility of Double NAT in the routing mode. The issue can become prominent while using VoIP service or port forwarding rules.

The main purpose of the bridge mode is not to function as a security layer  but to reduce traffic using segmentation. To make things simple, if you are planning to use bridge mode for a home network, it provides equal amount of security as a router.

On the other hand, since routers are primarily used to connect two remote devices or networks, routers can help to create a secure network. Under router mode, different security protocols are adopted, including encryption, to secure the data. This makes the router safer than using it as a bridge.

If a networking device is operating on a bridge mode, it will not have the routing capabilities and can be used to extend the range of  LANs. And hence, the bridge mode is seen as easier to operate for LANs.

Router mode is required when you need to move back and forth between multiple networks. For instance, between your ISP and your home network. Also, a router mode enabled in a networking device can distribute a single wired Internet connection to multiple clients. These are the reasons for the router mode being suitable for both LAN and WAN environments.

Enabling bridge mode can be useful in those places where the number of devices trying to connect to the network is large and network coverage needs expansion.

The Routers support a limited number of devices connected at a time and also do not cater to the requirement of wider network coverage. Thus, router mode is suitable for home use.

Except for the fact that both are router/modem configurations, there are only a few similarities between Bridge mode and Router mode. However, when viewed closely, both of these modes of networking can be used to extend network connectivity.

Users can extend the existing network without using the NAT feature while using Bridge mode. Network range extensions are possible while in router mode, but IP address conflicts also can arise with it.

Bridge Mode helps you to utilize the networking devices you have to extend the network coverage across a larger area. If you are setting a Mesh system, you must operate your primary networking device on bridge mode.

As already discussed, having the bridge mode on eliminates the possibility of Double NAT. If any network-based activity you are performing is getting affected by Double NAT, you can try using this mode on your router. Operating on Bridge mode also can be a good option if the device provided by your ISP lacks wireless strength.

For an average home user, running on the Router mode is relatively easy and caters all the home requirements. If you have multiple networks, you can use the router mode to separate them by creating multiple SSIDs. On a home network, you can also operate the primary networking device on a Router mode and connect a spare router as an extender.

After all of the discussion, here is a quick summary of the major differences between Router Mode and Bridge Mode.

Netflix Usa Vs Netflix India – What’s The Difference?

When this content streaming giant started out in the 90s, it has a simple and effective selling point to deliver premium entertainment directly to home users. Thanks to the infinitely rapid spread of the internet in the past decade, Netflix was able to take its model not just online across the United States, but open its wings and go international. Spanning across the entire world except for Syria, North Korea, and Crimea due to US sanctions, Netflix has become synonymous with premium online entertainment.

Despite the service being a worldwide phenomenon, the amount of content available across the service is region-specific. You’ve already seen true Netflix fans discuss the possibility of unlocking Netflix USA in India, and there’s a good reason to do so. Let’s find out what makes Netflix USA and Netflix India so different in the first place.

Related: Netflix vs Hotstar vs Amazon Prime

While it is almost impossible to put the content of Netflix under a microscope with thousands of movies and TV shows, there is some number-crunching we can do. To start off with movie titles, the Netflix movies library in the United States consists of 4500+ movies at an average, with the number growing and even declining sometimes.

The catalog of Netflix movies for the Indian region is restricted to just 500+ movies in comparison to the massive catalog of Netflix USA. There are multiple reasons for this, which includes copyright and language restrictions, content exclusivity and others. But you have to take into account what Netflix India offers that Netflix USA simply doesn’t.

Best streaming services in India

Thanks to its in-house production of Netflix Original content, the entertainment streaming service rules the chart with 1150+ TV shows on the Netflix USA roster at the moment. In comparison, you would expect an equal amount of TV shows to be available on Netflix India, since there aren’t too many regional TV shows available, with the exception of some Pakistani soap dramas of course.

However, there is also a stark difference in the number of Netflix USA TV shows that are available for viewing in India, with the figure being just around 530+ at the moment. This means that as a Netflix India user, you miss out on some of the best TV shows of all time like F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Modern Family, The Flash and many others.

Price: Netflix USA = Netflix India

Considering the massive currency divide between the two nations, you’d expect the streaming service subscription to be cheaper in India, especially when you look at the difference in the content library. With the Netflix USA Standard subscription costing $7.99 and the same on the Indian Netflix platform costing 500 INR (approximately $7.70), there isn’t much of a price gap between the two.

Winner: Netflix USA

As a Netflix user in India, users hoped to enjoy the best of western entertainment with top Netflix Original movies and TV shows at a fairly premium price. While it is quite pleasant that Netflix is keen on offering regional-specific content to woo the local viewership, it comes as a sacrifice of thousands of movies and TV shows that are offered on Netflix USA. Though, there is a trick to let you watch Neflix USA content from India.

On average, Netflix India has less than 12% of the streaming content available on Netflix USA, despite costing almost the same. Since this ratio isn’t going to change anytime soon, it might be time to take things into your hands and fire up a VPN to unblock Netflix USA through your Netflix India subscription.
