Before Microsoft released the Anniversary Update, we told you that there wouldn’t be reason to fear for your files as the upgrade wouldn’t delete your files. However, while that applies to the majority of users, some of them might actually get their files deleted for one reason or another.

We already told you that the Anniversary Update is deleting Linux partitions for some users, but it appears to be the case with regular ones, as well. If you were unfortunate enough to get your files or even a whole partition deleted after updating your system to the Anniversary Update, we’re going to try to solve the problem for you with a couple of possible solutions.

Solution 1 – Check if chúng tôi folder is still available

After you install the Anniversary Update, Microsoft stores files from the previous version of the system in a special folder named chúng tôi So, even if your data and files are temporarily lost, there’s still a chance they’re saved in Windows.old.

This folder is located in your system partition (usually C:) and you can easily find it. To find out more about this folder, and how to move files from it, check out this article.

Solution 2 – Use your backup (if possible)!

The golden rule of PC users still remains: always back up! It is recommended to back up your files regularly, especially before installing a new system or a major update. So, if you prepared yourself for possible problems, like deleting files by the system, you shouldn’t have any worries if you have a backup copy of your stuff.

Unfortunately, even though the majority of users know that it’s possible to easily lose their files, a lot of them still don’t back up at all. So, if you don’t have a backup copy of your files and the Anniversary Update deleted them, they might be lost forever, unfortunately. However, that doesn’t have to be the case, so check some of the solutions listed below.

Solution 3 – Use recovery software

There is various software out there that offers to restore deleted data. If you pick up some recovery software, there’s a good chance it can recover your lost data without any bigger problems. Some of the best data recovery solutions are EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, and Recuva Data Recovery, but feel free to look for more solutions online.

Expert tip:

Solution 4 – Make sure Windows 10 recognizes your partition

One of the earliest problems caused by the Anniversary Update that users reported is the issue with Windows 10 not recognizing a hard drive partition. If you have this kind of issue, your files probably aren’t deleted — they’re just not recognized by Windows 10.

Unfortunately, there’s still no confirmed solution for this issue, but if you want to find out more about it and what other users who encountered this problem said, we have an article about that that you might want to check it out.

Solution 5 – Take your hard drive to a specialist

If none of the solutions listed above help you to retrieve your lost files, you might want to ask a professional for help. Remove your hard disk from your computer, find a licensed service that does data recovery, and ask them for help. It might cost you a pretty penny, but paying is better than losing your precious files.

We offered you five solutions to recover your data, but just keep in mind there’s a chance your data will be lost even after performing all of them. If this happened to you and you weren’t able to get your lost files back, we highly recommend you back up your files in future to avoid situations like this.

Junk Files In Windows 11/10: What Can You Delete Safely?

Junk files are files that remain on your computer after a task has been performed. Sometimes, Windows or some program needs to create temporary files while doing some task and then forgets to delete the temporary files it created. As time goes by, your computer is full of junk files in the form of temporary files, log files, downloaded files, and unwanted/unnecessary Windows registry entries. The article talks about removing Junk Files in Windows 11/10 using Disk Cleanup. It also tells you what you can keep and what to remove and why.

Junk Files in Windows 11/10

When the analysis is done, you will be presented with a window similar to the following – it lists what all is removable without causing problems to the operating system or installed applications.

Which Windows Junk Files can you delete safely?

The following feature in the list shown in the above list:

Temporary Internet Files

Downloaded Program Files

Offline Webpages

Recycle Bin

Temporary files

Thumbnails

Old Windows folder

Etc.

Temporary Internet files are used to speed up the loading of websites in most cases. In other cases, they are files left out after a session just as the temporary files that are created when you are using an app and are not deleted after the app is closed. Normally, an app creates temporary files when in usage and web pages when closed. Sometimes it fails to delete the files, and they are shown under Temporary files. Both of them are safe to delete so you should check the boxes to tell the OS that you are ready to delete them.

Downloaded Program Files are the files that an app installer leaves behind after installing the related app. These are useless as they do nothing except to occupy space on the hard disk drive. You may remove them without any hesitation.

TIP: USBDriveFresher is a Junk file and folder cleaner for USB Drives.

Offline webpages are the ones stored by your browsers to avoid delays in loading webpages. You might want to keep them in the case of a slower Internet connection. It helps in loading webpages that you frequent. The offline webpages are updated on a regular basis – just in case the online page is changed. You may or may not decide to delete them – based on your Internet speed. If you think you can afford to wait for a little until the webpages can load, go ahead and tick the box to delete them. If you are on a slow connection or metered connection, I recommend that you leave the box unchecked as it will trouble reloading the pages from the Internet. If on a metered connection, you will be charged for what you could get for free.

Thumbnails are previews of image files. There is no harm in deleting them. They will always be rebuild when you access the image files again. Of course, there will be a little delay when you open the image folders in Large icons or medium icons view as it will try to rebuild the thumbnails but the delay could be insignificant unless your computer is very slow and crammed up with images. I recommend deleting them if you are not struggling with an exceptionally slow computer.

Windows Temporary files are again files that are left behind by programs even when you close them. For example, when you open a document in MS Word, you might have seen a related file with the same extension. Like, if you open document .docx, you can see !~cument.docx as a hidden file. Such files are normally deleted by apps when you close them. The remaining ones can be cleaned up using Disk Cleaner to gain hard disk space in Windows 10.

Error Reporting Files are basically logs that contain information about events that lead to improper Windows or related app behavior. These are helpful when troubleshooting Windows. I recommend keeping them (uncheck the box so that they are not removed).

Windows Defender Files – can be deleted without hesitation

Windows Upgrade Log Files – you’ll need them to troubleshoot if the upgrade did not go as intended. These logs help in identifying the errors that happened during the upgrade. If you have successfully upgraded, you can remove them.

Device Driver Packages – contains device drivers which you may have to use in the future when a device is not functioning properly. In most cases, these are but pointers that tell Windows where to look for files. Advice is to keep them

By default, the Disk Cleanup software deletes only old temporary files. If you want it to delete even the recent temporary files, read Make Disk Cleanup delete ALL temporary files. The Disk Cleanup command line lets you clean even more junk files!. If you wish, you can also automate Disk Cleanup.

By default, most of the user install their programs (games and applications) on the system (C:) drive. If you use too many applications, the drive will run out of free space in no time. To increase the C: drive size, you can use the Disk Management tool to extend the volume.

However, at times when users try to extend the volume using the Disk Management tool, some of them noticed that the Extend Volume option is greyed out and they were unable to extend the drive. Here is how to fix the greyed out Extend Volume option in Windows 10.

If you’re unable to extend a drive in Windows 10, check these steps 1. Use AOMEI Partition Assistant to Merge Partition

AOMEI is a free partition assistant tool that allows you to extend and shrink the disk partition without having to delete any other partition. This option is better than the second method, where you would have to delete the D: drive to extend the C: drive volume. Here is how to do it.

What to do if you don’t have unallocated space to extend the volume?

AOMEI Partition Assistant allows you to allocate free space from the D: drive to C: drive without deleting the partition. Here is how to do it.

Also Read: 5 best partition formatting software for Windows 10 PCs

2. Create Qualified Unallocated Space

The reason why the Extend Volume option is greyed out in the disk management tool is because of the unallocated space is not right contiguous to the C drive. To make it work, you need to put the unallocated space right next to the C drive and then extend the volume. Here is how to do it.

Now, you will see the partition next to the C: drive is unallocated. You can easily extend the C: volume without any problem.

Wrap Up!

These are the two ways to extend the volume for C: drive and fix the Extend Volume greyed out in the disk management tool.

I prefer the first method as it is easier, offers more options, and it does not require deleting any partitions to extend the C: drive. However, if you don’t want to install third-party software to extend the drive, you can go with the second method to the same effect.

What To Do When Your Smartphone Is Already Hacked

What To Do When Your Smartphone Is Already Hacked

There are hundreds of malicious apps that can bug your smartphone and steal your precious information. There are spying apps that can keep a watch on your online activities or keep a track of your location, search history, favorites, and other activities. Even big companies like Facebook and Google are also involved in capturing such information until you disable those tracking options.

Now the question is, how to know if your smartphone is already hacked and how to secure your device from being compromised. If this question is bothering you, this article is a must-read!

How To Identify If Your Smartphone Is Hacked?

There can be several signs if your phone has been hacked or compromised but not all of them are noticeable. We have compiled top five noticeable signs that you should notice and stay alert.

1. Decrease in Battery Life

If a smartphone is hacked or the security is compromised due to a malware attack, the lifespan of the battery life will decrease significantly. The spying app or the malware may be consuming your phone’s resources and battery to transmit your information to other servers.

2. High Data Usage

If you are running out of data in a short span of time, your phone might be compromised. Malware or Spyware running in the background will consume a lot of data to communicate with their servers.

3. Sluggish Performance

A compromised smartphone will encounter frequent freezing, crashing apps, or overloading phone’s resources that lead to sluggish performance. You may also notice unstoppable apps that don’t kill running in the background.

4. Unknown Outgoing Calls or Messages

If you are noticing unknown outgoing calls or messages that you haven’t made, be very certain about a compromised phone. This may cost you additional charges or unknown spam calls made internationally from your device. A prompt action is required in such a scenario.

5. Frequent Notifications

If you are receiving frequent notification alerts of OTP, Password Change, Account Access, follow a link to reset credentials, or any such suspicious activity, you should be alert of possible scam.

Other Symptoms

There can be several other symptoms that may warn you to stay alert or protected. You may receive frequent pop-ups that you are not aware of, you may see unusual activity with your linked Email accounts or bank accounts. Fortunately, by using a reliable mobile security app, you don’t have to worry about any malware threats or vulnerabilities harming your device.

What You Can Do?

Which Is The Best Mobile Security App?

Consider using Smart Phone Cleaner to protect your device from online/offline threats. Now you must be thinking about how a cleaning app can help you in safeguarding your device and data. Its real-time protection ensures no new malicious content harms your smartphone. You can even schedule regular malware scanning on an everyday/weekly basis to stay always protected!

Always connect to a trusted Wi-Fi network to connect online. Free Wi-Fi networks are prone to threats.

Make sure that you use a secured passcode, fingerprint impression or facial recognition app to unlock your phone.

Don’t connect your phone to unknown charging stations until you have a security software installed.

Perform a routine check on all the installed apps and uninstall unknown or unwanted apps.

Clean RAM, Browsing History, links and run a security scan on the device once a day.

Use the Best VPN Service for Android Whenever visiting suspicious websites.

Must Read: How To Track A Lost or Stolen Phone

Can I Track My Relative’s Phone Without Them Knowing?

To keep a track of a device’s location, calls, chats or access its gallery, there are hundreds of programs available. You can listen to call recordings, track their live location, read their WhatsApp, FB messages, or track their social activities just with a single tap. You just need to get hold of the device once to grant access and track the activity of any friend or relative’s device. Even without touching their phone, you can gain access to someone’s phone, that’s what hackers do.

Is Someone Spying on My Phone?

That’s a big question! You may not know when someone starts spying on you through your smartphone. The question is how do you know if someone is watching you through your phone? If your phone is hacked or someone has cloned your phone, it will start acting crazy. Like delayed response, phone stuck on a particular screen, annoying behavior, etc.

How to Find Out Who Hacked Your Cell Phone? Summing Up

It is painful to lose all your precious data and compromise on your privacy. Precaution is better than cure and some infections are so irreversible that you can only regret and do nothing with what has happened. It is better if you are aware of the symptoms and the causes to narrow down and minimize the impact of the damage.

Use one of the best antiviruses for Android but don’t just rely on security apps and be vigilant about the latest threats and mobile antivirus for precautions. Norton mobile security is again one of the best security apps that you can install on your device besides it consumes a lot of resources while providing uninterrupted smartphone security.
