Suggested January 2024 What Is A Wake Source For Windows Computer? Why Did My Pc Wake Up?

This post will show you how to find out what woke your Windows 11/10 computer from Sleep. Putting our PC into Sleep Mode is one of the best ways to save energy and to make sure we can resume our work quickly. But what if the PC wakes up almost immediately after you put it into sleep mode? Certainly, it is a problem, and to figure out the fix you will first need to understand what the wake source of Windows PC is.

Windows Sleep mode settings

Windows 11/10 ‘Sleep’ mode helps in conserving energy by putting the PC into a low-power state and turning off the display when it is not in use. Unlike a total shutdown or reboot, Sleep mode helps the user resume work much faster and pick up exactly from where he/she left it – including any application, documents, and folders that were opened. Windows also puts the computer system into sleep mode automatically. Automatic sleep settings allow the user to choose when exactly they want their computer to sleep and when it should automatically wake up.

Explaining in simpler terms, when a PC is put to sleep it enters a state where most of its components are shut off instead of its memory. This lets the user quickly wake the computer back to the same state it was when it went to sleep.

What could be the wake source of Windows 10 PC?

There are different types of unpleasant reasons behind the wake source of Windows 10 PC:

Hybrid Mode activated

Virus or malware infection

Due to the drivers from the hardware component

Peripheral devices connected to your PC

Application preventing the Windows computer from using the sleep mode properly

Above stated were just a few reasons that could be interfering in your PC’s sleep, catching the actual troublemaker is crucial here.

Why Are Games Crashing On My Pc?

PC gamers can optimize Windows 11/10 to improve gaming – and for gamers on Windows 11, there are a couple of gaming settings you need to know and tweak for an even better experience. In this post, we take a look at why your games are crashing on your Windows PC and also offer suggestions on how gamers can mitigate the usually unexpected occurrence of this issue.

To proffer concrete remediation to games crashing on PC, you need to identify the main factors that are the culprit. Below are the most common causes of this issue:

Gaming PC doesn’t meet minimum specs

PC has been overclocked

Incorrect or wrong game settings

Graphics adapter consumimg too much power

Windows operating system is outdated

Outdated device drivers

Poor or slow network connection

Digital Rights Management (DRM) issues

Games are running in the wrong mode

Security software interference

VPN issues

Too many open browser tabs

Why are games crashing on my PC

As we have identified the most reasons why games crash on PC, we can now proceed to outline measures PC gamers can apply or put in place prevent this occurrence at the barest minimum. In no particular order, the following are suggestions you can try to prevent or fix game crash issues on your Windows 11/10 gaming rig. We suggest you give your gaming system a restart as this simple action can fix game crash issues, assuming there are no serious underlying issues with your hardware or OS.

Check system requirements

Stop overclocking

Check game graphics settings

Check the power supply unit (PSU)

Make sure Windows is updated

Make sure drivers and games are updated

Check network/internet connection

Enable Game Mode

Check and adjust security software settings

Reinstall game

Let’s see these in detail.

1] Check system requirements

The main and obvious reason why games crash on PC is, the gaming system spec doesn’t meet the game’s minimum requirements. So, when buying games online from Steam and similar services, make sure to review the game’s description for the system requirements. If you’re buying the physical copy of the video game from a brick-and-mortar store, you’ll find the minimum and recommended system requirements on the back of the video game packaging.

You can always check the game vendor site for this informations. If your PC meets these requirements, you shouldn’t have any issues installing and running the game. Otherwise you will need to upgrade your PC before you can play the game – this could require you to simply upgrade the hardware components (like RAM, storage disk etc) on your rig or purchase a new gaming PC.

2] Stop overclocking

Although with good ventilation and cooling, CPU overclocking and GPU overclocking can significantly increase performance as many gamers still engage in this practice. However, it isn’t a perfect method as games can still crash. So, if you have overclocked your PC, you can simply reverse the change depending on the overclocking software in use. Generally, launch the software and look for the option to stop the overclocking or uninstall the software altogether. This basically will reset your processor (and GPU, if appropriate) to default settings. Once done, restart your computer and see if the crash issue is resolved. Otherwise, the issue is caused by something else.

3] Check game graphics settings

To help you get the most out of your game, most games, especially those with high system requirements, have a dedicated video settings screen. Games tend to boot with a configuration designed for your system hardware, but this can cause game crashes sometimes. In this case, you can troubleshoot by lowering the game settings in the video configuration screen. You can keep adjusting the settings until you hit the right mix of performance and graphics. If you graphics card is unable to handle high resolutions, you will have to upgrade to a more powerful graphics hardware.

4] Check the power supply unit (PSU)

If the graphics adapter installed on your Windows 11/10 gaming PC is drawing more power than is available on the PSU, you’re likely to experience game crashes. The only solution as it applies in this case, is to upgrade to the best PSU capable of providing enough power to play the game. Before swapping out the PSU, check how much power your PC needs. Also, make sure there’s no dust or particles build-up on the graphics card and PC interior to prevent high PC temperature which can lead to performance issues and possibly system crash.

5] Make sure Windows is updated

Your game’s system specification should list the correct operating system and version required to run the title. Most AAA games are designed for 64-bit systems and is expected to run without issues on newer versions of Windows. Generally, the issues of operating systems and hardware are interlinked – in the sense that older hardware running Windows 11/10 may be suitable for running the most up-to-date video games. But your games will likely crash if you play on an old or outdated operating system. So make sure Windows is updated to the latest build/version to keep up with game improvements and requirements for the best gaming experience.

6] Make sure drivers and games are updated

If games are crashing on your PC, before you try forking out money to purchase a new gaming rig, you should first update drivers and the game itself; assuming you are running the latest version of Windows on your rig.

Games can crash for reasons beyond (but not unrelated to) unsuitable hardware and operating systems. Video drivers, for instance, should be up-to-date, as should the game itself. Although some games will automatically check for updates and install them before they load, you can manually check for patches and updates for the game in question at the publisher’s website

Depending on your PC, manufacturers have made available special driver download software for their brands that you can use to update update drivers and firmware:

You can also use a third-party free driver update software or you can download the latest version of the device driver you need from the hardware manufacturer’s website.

7] Check network/internet connection

Especially with online gaming, you may experience game crashes when slow or poor network delays the game client being updated by the remote server. To prevent this issue, make sure that your network speed is suitable for playing games. Check your internet device and disable other internet applications to ensure that only the game receives data. For the best online gaming experience, you can connect your PC directly to the router via Ethernet and avoid using WiFi where possible. You may have to use a Powerline Ethernet Adapter to overcome any architectural limitations.

In some cases, network issues can contribute to Digital Rights Management (DRM) affecting a game’s performance or the remote server status causing the game to crash. In this case, you can play offline if the option is available for the game. This will prevent the DRM from checking with the remote server for suspicious activity in the game or account.

Still on network issues causing games to crash, your VPN/GPN software can also cause games to keep closing on your PC, particularly online games. This can occur if the VPN server is down, or if the VPN client isn’t able to maintain a connection. Distance can also play a part, as you’ll have to deal with latency when playing on a specific game server located at another region. In any case, the applicable solutions here, is to switch to a faster and more stable VPN, invest in a faster internet connection or disconnect from the VPN when accessing a specific game server.

8] Enable Game Mode

Interference by other open and running apps while gaming on your Windows 11/10 computer can cause the game to crash. So, close all other apps before launching the game you want to play, as this will even free up more system resources for the game to run smoothly. This also applies to your browser as well – so make sure not to open multiple tabs than necessary. You might need voice chat software like Discord or Game Bar; beyond that your PC resources should be focused on running the game.

In addition, you can enable Game Mode to reduce and limit other activity so that your game can freely run with sufficient system resources.

9] Check and adjust security software settings

Apps, processes, and services running in the background can impact the performance of gaming, and your security software is not an exception. Your AV is actively looking for suspicious files. Sometimes, these files are scanned, which can cause the PC to hang or freeze, and then crashes due to security scanning. The game in play can also crash because a legitimate game file is identified as harmful and quarantined. In this case, you can either reduce the level of (or disable) file scanning when gaming, replace your security software with one that has “game mode” option, or temporarily disable (if possible) the security software for the duration of your gameplay.

On the other hand, games can crash on your PC if infected by a virus/malware. So be sure to keep your AV updated and manually scan your system periodically.

10] Reinstall game

Other things being equal, this is a viable solution to the game crashing on PC, because it could be that the issue is caused by corrupted or damaged game files or even a botched game installation that is missing crucial game files. In this case, you can uninstall the game (preferably, use uninstaller software), reboot PC, and then download and reinstall the latest version of the game on your Windows 11/10 PC.

I hope this post is informative and helpful enough for you!

What Is A Tripod Bubble Level And Why It’s Useful

What Is A Tripod Bubble Level?

One of the first rules of photography is to keep your horizons straight. The main reason being that if your photo is a little crooked, it can be super distracting. Especially when you hang a print on your wall, a crooked horizon will really ruin it. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t very good at “eyeballing” the tripod and calling it level. That’s why tripod bubble levels were created and are a powerful tool for photographers to use.

A tripod bubble level is a leveling device used to show how straight a tripod is standing. By aligning the bubble to the center, you can guarantee the tripod head is sitting perpendicular to the ground. This helps to ensure your tripod is well balanced and makes the horizon lines in your photos appear straight.

There’s a lot more to bubble levels than meets the eye. Continue below to learn the different types of tripod levels and how to use them to get perfectly straight photos with ease.

What Are Tripod Bubble Levels Used For?

A tripod bubble level is the only way to know that your tripod is securely set up when working on uneven terrain. Not every photo you take will be on a nice smooth concrete surface. You’ll find yourself shooting on rolling terrain or rocky hillsides more often than not, especially if you’re a landscape photographer!

Whatever the case, just eyeballing the level of your tripod isn’t a great idea. If your tripod ends up leaning one way or another, it’s far more likely to tip over. To guarantee your tripod and camera are set up securely, the tripod bubble level will give you an accurate answer.

Tripod bubble levels work the same as a regular bubble level you might have used for construction purposes. As the angle of the level changes, the bubble inside moves accordingly. In the case of a tripod level, the main bubble level usually sits at the tripod’s base. With a little bit of fine-tuning of the tripod legs, you can perfect your tripod’s level in a matter of seconds.

Types Of Tripod Bubble Levels

Depending on the tripod you have, there are likely multiple bubble levels you’ll see. Let’s go over what each of them is and why they’re useful.

– The Base Level

Your tripod is broken down into two separate parts called the base and the head. The base only consists of the tripod legs and the center post. This part is what supports the weight of your camera and is the main section you need to adjust when leveling. At the top of the base where the legs converge, there is usually a small circular bubble level on the tripod. Typically in a highlighter color, this level helps to ensure the center post of the tripod sits at a 90º angle (straight up) from the ground.

Besides making it easier to align your camera, a well-leveled base distributes the camera’s weight equally to all legs. Rather than favoring one leg of another, this makes the entire tripod way more secure.

– The Head Level

The second part of your tripod is the head. This is the section that your camera actually attaches to and how you adjust your photos’ composition.

Your tripod head is the second place that you’ll likely see a bubble level. For most photography tripods, there will be two different levels on the head. One for horizontal leveling and one for vertical. That way, no matter if you want to shoot in a portrait or landscape orientation, there’s an accurate bubble level to look at.

As you adjust the head’s position, you can look at the head bubble level to see how straight your camera is. Ideally, you want the bubble to be perfectly centered to ensure a straight horizon!

– The Base Plate Level

Now with some tripods, there isn’t a level directly on the tripod head, but instead, on the base plate. The base plate is the small metal or plastic mount that screws into the bottom of your camera and attaches to the tripod head. Although the tripod bubble level is in a slightly different location, it still operates the same as the other types. Just like before, if the bubble level is centered, you know that your photo will look perfectly straight!

What Bubble Level To Adjust First

With you’re looking at up to three different bubble levels on your tripod, it doesn’t take much to make your brain spin. Right when one level looks good, the other two are miles off. Without following the right sequence of steps, you might have a challenging time finding the right level.

First, you need to start with the base. Just like a house, without a solid base to stand on, your tripods going to look a little wobbly. After deciding on a spot to set up your tripod, adjust the legs to bring your base’s bubble level to center. This may take a bit of finagling to get right, but it’s worth the effort. With your bubble perfectly set inside the circle, the next step becomes extremely easy.

Now attach your camera to the tripod head and find the right framing before you work on leveling. After all, what’s the point of leveling if you aren’t happy with the shot you’ve set up for!

Once you’ve found the composition you like, adjust the head until the bubble is level. Depending on whether you’re set up for a portrait or landscape photo, you might need to look at different leveling bubbles on the tripod head.

With a quick couple of steps, you’ve successfully learned how to use a tripod bubble level to take perfectly straight photos!

What To Do If You Don’t Have One

Depending on the type of tripod you have, there might not be a bubble level on the tripod. In this case, it’s a bit harder to level your tripod perfectly. However, that’s not to say it’s impossible!

There are a few different ways you can get a bubble level for your tripod if it doesn’t already have one. The first option is a level that mounts directly to your camera, and the other sits on your tripod.

The hot shoe bubble is one that works the same as a tripod head level by helping you to keep straight horizons. In this case, the levels come in a small cube that mounts to the top of your camera. They’re extremely small and easy to pack around in your bag. Rather than forking over hundreds of dollars for a new tripod head, you can get a hot shoe bubble level for a few dollars on amazon.

The other option you have is a tripod bubble level for the base of your tripod. Now, if you’re like me, you probably don’t want to stick or screw a small level onto your tripod permanently. Luckily there are small leveling disks that seamlessly fit between your tripods base and the head. By fitting itself around the 3/8 screw that your head mounts to, it stays secure by the tripod head. It’s designed to sit just wider than the head and has a small bubble level sticking out.

This is my favorite way to add a bubble level to a tripod since it doesn’t permanently change the tripod in any way!

Having both a base and head level is an important part of having a stable tripod. By keeping all your bubble levels perfectly balanced, you’ll never have to worry about crooked photos again. What a relief!

Why Is My Iphone Showing An Emergency Override Charging Alert

iPhones released after the iPhone 7 offer a certain degree of resistance to water exposure. As a fail-safe mechanism, the iPhone is set to pause charging automatically until the lightning ports dry off to prevent hazards. But what if there’s an emergency situation? Fret not; iPhone touts an emergency charging override feature that lets you charge your iPhone immediately.

What is an Emergency Override on the iPhone? Should you use it? Read on to find out more.

What is Emergency Override iPhone Charging?

Emergency charging override is a way to bypass the liquid detection warning on the iPhone. When you activate this feature, your iPhone will charge regardless of whether its components are still wet or not. However, this depends on your discretion and is not Apple-recommended. Of course, I also don’t recommend charging your iPhone this way, even if you’re using a wireless charger.

When should you select the Emergency Override Charging option?

As said earlier, iPhone 7 and later series offer certain water-resistance levels at various depths based on their IP ratings (you might want to see if your iPhone is water-resistant or not). So far, iPhones series 12 and 13 are the most resistant and withstand depths of up to 6 meters. It’s not strange to see people take underwater pictures with their iPhones. And some even dare this resistant feature and pour water directly on their device.

How to undo Emergency Override option?

If you mistakenly select the Emergency Override option whenever a liquid warning pops up on your iPhone, there are a couple of things you can do to prevent further damage:

Unplug your iPhone from the power source immediately.

You might also want to restart the iPhone at this point.

Leave it for some time to dry off. Avoid using any drying agents or air blower to absorb moisture from your iPhone.

Once the iPhone dries up, try charging it again. Your phone is dry if the liquid warning doesn’t show anymore.

If the warning keeps showing after drying, avoid the Emergency Override option. It might be time to contact Apple.

Dropped an iPhone in water? Here’s what to do

If your iPhone mistakenly drops in water or you use it underwater for some reason, ensure to get it out as soon as possible.

Once you remove your iPhone from the water, avoid plugging it into a power cable for charging. Instead, leave for some time to dry naturally under a cool breeze. Also, you might want to remove water from your iPhone speakers if the liquid is affecting audio quality.

What to do if you get a “Liquid Detected” warning?

The iPhone uses the “Liquid Detected” warning to alert you that there’s still liquid in your iPhone, as earlier stated. Hence, it deters you from charging it this way. So it’s best to unplug your iPhone from the charger immediately if you see this warning on your iPhone. There’s no cause for panic. You only need to leave your iPhone to dry before trying to charge it again.

How to turn off emergency override on iPhone?

You cannot directly turn off Emergency Override Mode. However, you can immediately disconnect the iPhone from the charger to exit the Emergency Override mode.

Will using Emergency Override charging damage your iPhone?

Of course, Emergency Override means you’re force-charging your iPhone despite being moist. Although Apple puts it there, it doesn’t recommend using that option, as it can damage your iPhone. It might spoil your iPhone. So the short answer is yes.

Nonetheless, you can use a wireless charger instead of a power cable if you need to charge your iPhone in emergency mode. This method is safer since you don’t need to connect directly to an electrical source. However, use this method only in emergencies. You may avoid using wireless charging if you can wait for your iPhone to dry naturally.

In conclusion

Emergency Override might be unavoidable in some situations, though. Moreover, Apple added this feature for users who might need to charge their device to power on if there’s an emergency. So Emergency Override isn’t meant to charge the battery for long. It’s only there to boost the battery so you can use your iPhone during an emergency.
