Chances are that you’ve never heard of Delivery Optimization, which should do one thing and do it well: if you download a Windows app or an update to any PC on your network, any other PCs on your network can download it from that PC, bypassing the Internet. This eliminates the need to download and re-download updates again and again. And why haven’t you heard of it? Because it stinks.

If you live in a rural area, the mainstream tech press doesn’t care about your problems. If you live in California, the media who live in the Northeast (which is to say, most of them) don’t care about Delivery Optimization, because it doesn’t cost them a dime just to re-download everything. Why? Because after Verizon provided unlimited bandwidth to FiOS users, Comcast was pressured into eliminating its data caps with most of the Northeast states after first suspending them during the pandemic. But that benefit isn’t available to anywhere else Comcast serves, which sucks.

If you’re not willing to pay your Internet provider for unlimited data (and why should you?) all of that extra data costs money. For my family of four, Comcast Xfinity allows me 1.2TB a month, which goes fast with a pair of near-teenage boys and a media-savvy wife. Beyond that, I’m charged $10 for every 50GB I go over. For games and video, that adds up.

Delivery Optimization allows you to still download games, but fetch them from nearby PCs.

Meanwhile, I have a few laptops that I use for testing. I’ll play a game on the Xbox or on the PC. That adds up, too.

For whatever reason, though, only a tiny fraction of my downloaded updates arrives from other PCs on my network, if that. Neither am I uploading anything to those PCs, or even to the Internet, though I’ve had that option toggled on, too. I feel the frustration of this random soul, who bemoaned the fact that all anyone ever searches for is how to turn Delivery Optimization off, rather than on.

If Windows’ Delivery Optimization truly worked, I’d be downloading dozens of gigabytes from other local PCs.

Mark Hachman / IDG

There are two ways to help determine whether or not Delivery Optimization is running: first, open the Run menu (Win + R) and enter chúng tôi . You should see a list of services on your PC, along with their status. The Services window identified the Delivery Optimization service as running, and set to begin automatically. So, no luck there.

I also tried a method suggested by Brien Posey of TechGenix: Open an elevated PowerShell session and enter the following command: Get-DeliveryOptimizationStatus . That should produce an output where you can check the number of client peers from which the download originated. It should hopefully more than 0, which signifies that just the Microsoft server was used.

You can turn on Windows Delivery Optimization from the Windows Update setting.

Mark Hachman / IDG

Neither method seemed to tell me whether or not Delivery Optimization was working. And yet, my Windows Update delivery monitor indicated that it did work, though for just half a gigabyte or two. But why? And on what files? I don’t know. Something happened, though nothing meaningful. So yes, it feels like Delivery Optimization is just taunting me.

The trouble with sharing apps and data among multiple PCs is the fact that the connection can be extremely sensitive to a variety of factors: whether they’re on the same network, whether devices are protected by a firewall, the versions of Windows each device is running, and so on. Those are some of the issues you have to manage with an app like Mouse Without Borders, for example.

Some of this falls upon the user’s shoulders. But Microsoft’s rather skimpy Delivery Optimization support documents focus on managing Delivery Optimization, or at least managing user concerns that their PC will unwittingly spray data all over the Internet. There’s really not all that much about what to do if Delivery Optimization simply fails to work.

You can check to see if Delivery Optimization is working within Windows Services, but that didn’t solve my problem.

Mark Hachman / IDG

The problem, though, is a real one. Not all of us benefit from multi-gigabit Ethernet service. Maybe Microsoft engineers do, working from their campus in Redmond or via high-speed connections from their homes. But many workers still work over slow, remote, Internet connections with limited data caps. If the FCC won’t work to eliminate data caps entirely, than maybe Microsoft can help out those of us who have to put up with them.

Why Should I Care About Windows Update

Do you get a pop-up every other week from Windows notification from Microsoft Windows Update? A lot of people will ignore these messages and others will even turn Windows Update off when in fact they should have paid a little more of attention.

Today I am going to explain what a Windows Update is and help you how to configure the settings to install them.

Definition: Windows Update is a piece of programming code that is released from time to time from Microsoft to fix problems or prevent them and add & improve functionalities of your overall system as part of their maintenance and support service.

Analogy: Software update is like renting a house (the house will represent Windows) with a broken door (the broken door will represent a feature inside Windows that is not working correctly). What you normally would do it’s to call your landlord (this is an automatic process in Windows that contact Microsoft about the problem) then the person responsible (here is where Microsoft will look and find an update for the problem) will come to your house and fix the broken door (the tools and components to repair the broken door will represent, in this case, a Windows Update) and depending of your settings, even if you don’t have any problems, your computer will contact Microsoft Windows Update service for updates to prevent problems or improve functionalities; etc. As far as I know, most of the times, Windows Updates will be available every second Tuesday of the month A.K.A “Patch Tuesday” or whenever an update is really important for your system.

Type of Windows Updates:

Critical updates: Fixes specific critical problems but not Security related.

Security updates: Fixes specific security vulnerability (security means all computer access related, most of the time is network access)

Service pack: It’s a set of copulatives updates (here also are included all before released Security Updates, Critical Updates and fixes), new updates, plus additional improvements and functionalities.

For more information on software updates descriptions refer to this support article from Microsoft Description of the standard terminology that is used to describe Microsoft software updates

To know what the update is about, follow these steps: To change your Windows Updates settings, follow these steps:

-Should work in Windows Vista & Windows 7

What I would recommend is, if your computer is not ON all the time, to change “Install new updates:” settings to a time that you know your computer is ON  and you are not doing important work (this makes it easier for Windows to install updates), because you may need to restart your computer to finish installing the update(s).

Keeping your computer up to date is good and for Critical & Security updates, even more.

There always are going to be people trying to compromise your system or trying to get information from you for their own gain. Applying software updates not only will secure your computer but it will also fix problems that Windows might have, besides getting  improvements and maybe some additional features that are always welcome. This is why I would not recommend turning Windows Update off on your system.

Microsoft not only offers Windows updates but it also can supply you with other products updates that are non-Microsoft and also hardware drivers, but of course that the software vendor needs to register with Microsoft in other for you to get them through Microsoft Windows Update service. And don’t worry Microsoft Windows updates are Free!

New Ipad May Have This Strange Feature In 2023

New iPad may have this strange feature in 2023

Apple released plans today for a tablet which had a very strange, but not entirely unheard of, backside feature. We’ve seen devices that have the ability to make use of a back-facing touch panel before, but never exactly like this. If this new set of features makes their way to the next iPad, it’ll be a rather interesting device indeed.

In the drawings for the proposal made by Apple, a number of touch panel possibilities were shown on a tablet device. In one drawing, the tablet had four small touch zones, one in each of the four corners. Another example had two large panels covering the entire back of the device.

A third drawing from Apple showed what would appear to be touch panels in an arrangement not unlike a folding tablet cover – one section smaller than the last. Another arrangement of touch panels sat in three small rectangles, one on top of the other in a stack in the center of the back of the tablet.

Apple described several basic ways in with which the back of this tablet might be interacted. Swipes left and right, up and down, and diagonally. Another set of drawings showed what Apple described as “a possible combined gesture on the back of the device.” These are akin to pinching or pulling fingers together or apart on a webpage, or a map, to move in or out.

In the description of this technology, Apple mentioned force. Onscreen functionality related to the amount of force a person presses on a touchscreen and a touchpad were introduced by Apple several years ago as Force Touch and/or 3D Touch. The Apple description of their own force-sensitive touch panels at the backs of tablets was right along the same lines as Force Touch – albeit here on the back of the device rather than right up front.

“The method also includes determining if the location and/or amount of force detected by the force sensing layer correlates to a touch contact, and, if it correlates, treating the force as front-side force, while if the location and/or amount of force detected by the force sensing layer does not correlate to a touch contact, treating the force as a back-side force,” said inventor Abdollahian Golnaz et al., “Based on the type of force detected, appropriate action may be taken, including back-side specific actions such as multi-tasking application switches or content or viewport manipulation.”

The document we used to write up this article was first filed with the USPTO back in March of 2023. This document was tagged with the following Inventors names: Abdollahian Golnaz and Wayne C Westerman, and the granting of the patent happened in September of 2023. That’s an absolutely extreme amount of speed for the USPTO for something like this – and we wouldn’t be surprised if it had something to do with Apple bringing on a new sort of iPad sometime inside 2023.

Over the past few years, Apple events showing a new iPad have fallen on the third month of the year. Last year Apple threw a wrench into the mix by releasing the newest iPad Pro in June, and that may well be their new yearly place of event. But we shall see!

Imessage Issues After Jailbreaking? This Fixed It For Me…

Upon jailbreaking my iPhone X running iOS 14.8 with checkra1n for the first time, something I began noticing while attempting to test various jailbreak tweaks – especially those intended to modify notification behavior – is that my device would no longer receive iMessages.

An iMessage fails to send to the recipient in this illustration.

While I could send iMessages without issue, it was as if my jailbroken handset didn’t register that I was receiving them and, consequently, didn’t notify me as a result. To make matters worse, incoming conversation bubbles didn’t even appear in the Messages app as they did on my other devices connected to iCloud.

My first instinctual troubleshooting step was to reboot my device into a jailed state to see if anything jailbreak related was causing the issue, and lo and behold, things worked as expected following the reboot. For those unaware, the jailed state is what you find yourself in after rebooting a semi-tethered or semi-untethered jailbroken device. In this state, jailbreak tweaks won’t operate and apps installed via your jailbreak will crash upon attempted launch.

My next order of troubleshooting was to boot back into a jailbroken state and attempt to discern whether jailbreak tweak was causing the issue, but after uninstalling every jailbreak tweak I had, the issue persisted. I remembered reading things online about like issues resulting from various tweak injection methods, so I tried something different: I swapped my tweak injection method.

Since Substitute receives regular updates comprised of bug fixes and improvements, that was the one I had been using for tweak injection since jailbreaking with checkra1n. I expected that it would operate more smoothly than the antiquated Cydia Substrate option, which seldom receives any updates if at all these days; but at least in my case, I was wrong to count it out.

After uninstalling Substitute and replacing it with Cydia Substrate, my jailbroken iPhone began receiving iMessages again as I would have expected from the start. I’ve been satisfied with the fix for several weeks now, and things continue to operate as expected even at the time of this writing.

I’ve seen more than a couple of similar reports on /r/jailbreak affecting primarily checkra1n and unc0ver users, so it seems that this could be a common problem with Substitute. Given that most checkra1n and unc0ver users are using Substitute for tweak injection of the box, that’s a concerning thought that holds enough merit to warrant further investigation.

Of course, Cydia Substrate only supports arm64 and older devices such as the iPhone X and older, so that would mean that arm64e devices like the iPhone XS and newer would be stuck with Substitute unless users of those devices try the Odyssey or Taurine ecosystem with libhooker for tweak injection instead.

Sadly, anyone using an arm64e device with this problem will need to choose between continuing to wait for a Substitute update that resolves this problem and switching to another jailbreak in the interim. Unfortunately, neither option is particularly attractive if you’re accustomed to the checkra1n or unc0ver ecosystem.

If you’re not already using Cydia Substrate, and you have a compatible device and want to try using it to fix the issue discussed in this post, then you can get it from the pre-loaded Bingner repository on your checkra1n or unc0ver jailbreak. If you don’t already have that repository for whatever reason, then you can use the URL below to add it to your package manager app:

I’d like to clarify that while this remedy worked for me in my situation, it may not work for everyone. That’s because every device setup is different, and there could be a different underlying cause in your case, such as a conflicting jailbreak tweak for instance. Still, I would recommend giving this a shot if you have a device that can run Cydia Substrate, as you just might get lucky like I did.

I Asked Chatgpt For Investment Advice Regarding Dogecoin, It Told Me To…

The price of Dogecoin [DOGE] rallied 15% following the news of Ripple [XRP] securing a partial victory in its legal battle with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on 13 July.

The U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York ruled in its judgement that the sale of Ripple’s XRP tokens on crypto exchanges and though programmatic sales did not constitute investment contracts; hence, it is not a security in this case. But the court also ruled that the institutional sale of the XRP tokens violated federal securities laws.

For those of you aware of this phenomenon, DOGE has become synonymous with Elon Musk, the boss of both Tesla and Twitter, in recent years, thanks in no small part to his vocal support for the memecoin.

Musk has been an outspoken proponent of the meme-inspired cryptocurrency, frequently tweeting about it and even referencing it at any given opportunity.

Recently, investors proposed a class action lawsuit accusing Musk of insider trading and manipulating Dogecoin (DOGE), costing them billions of dollars.

New court documents reveal that the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against Musk are accusing the billionaire of using a “bottomless war chest” to fund a harassment campaign against them.

Read Dogecoin’s [DOGE] Price Prediction 2023-2024

Despite Musk’s enthusiastic support for DOGE, he has not attributed the same feeling towards ChatGPT, the trending AI application. On many occasions, the Twitter boss has expressed skepticism over the long-term prospects and dangers accustomed to the use of the tool.

ChatGPT is scary good. We are not far from dangerously strong AI.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) December 3, 2023

Thus, in this article, I would be asking ChatGPT what it thinks of the DOGE- Musk relationship. Furthermore, I will also engage in a conversation about the correlation between the parties while assessing Musk’s role in shaping development within Dogecoin.

Musk’s role in Dogecoin’s price action

There is no doubt that Musk, as one of the world’s richest men, has immense influence. And in 2023, the lover of memes engaged this authority in influencing DOGE’s price. Needless to say, Musk has had a hand in DOGE’s 27,668% all-time hike.

However, as market conditions worsened in 2023, the correlation between Dogecoin and Musk fell. In fact, on several occasions, Musk tweeted about DOGE but there was little to no effect on the price action. This means that the correlation between the two decoupled until recently when Musk changed the Twitter logo to a dog, in the representation of Dogecoin.

The action resulted in a 30% hike in less than 24 hours. However, the hike in value only lasted a while, even though the dog logo remained on the social media platform for more than three days. Therefore, I proceeded to ask ChatGPT what it thought of Dogecoin’s relationship with the controversial Elon Musk.

ChatGPT’s “normal” response stated that its cutoff knowledge data was September 2023. It also admitted that the link between Elon Musk’s tweets and Dogecoin was solid at that point in time. However, it could not provide a straightforward answer as to if the correlation would be the same at the time of writing.

The connection is as solid as ever

So, I considered it necessary to find a way to ensure that it replied as I desired. And the solution? — Jailbreak it! There are several ways to do this, including the switch method, the character play, the API way, and the Do Anything Now (DAN) method.

So, I decided to go with the DAN method to ease my conversation with ChatGPT. After successfully jailbreaking it, I again asked — “ChatGPT, tell me, do Dogecoin tweets from Elon Musk have a strong correlation with the cryptocurrency?”

Based on the response above, ChatGPT agreed that DOGE and Musk’s relationship was as solid as ever. There was speculation about such occurrences with the most recent one relating to the Twitter logo change and DOGE’s hike.

In terms of development, not much has been happening in Dogecoin’s ecosystem. However, on 23 March, the project’s core developer, Michi Lumin, announced a rollup of the 0.1.1 development release. With the new version 0.1.2, functionalities, including executable utility and transaction verification, would become easy for users.

“We’re ALREADY working on all sorts of new inclusions for 0.1.3, so keep watching – libdogecoin will continue to do more and more while remaining ultra lightweight and cross-compatible.”

Prior to that, Halborn security identified some susceptibles on the Dogecoin blockchain and recommended measures against possible exploits. Regarding its price action, CoinMarketCap revealed that DOGE slipped from its quick run to $0.1.

DOGE rallies after Ripple-SEC judgement

Following the SEC’s enforcement action against Binance [BNB] and Coinbase [COIN], the entire crypto market crashed instantly and Dogecoin was no exception. Its value dropped by more than 10% to $0.064 following the crackdown.

But the recent Ripple-SEC judgement led to a surge of 15% in DOGE’s price. At press time, it was trading at $0.07499.

While both the memecoin’s Money Flow Index (MFI) and Relative Strength Index (RSI) rested much above the neutral 50-mark, its On Balance Volume (OBV) registered a downtick.

For DOGE, it seems that the bears are going to dominate the bulls in the short-term.

I ask ChatGPT about investing in DOGE

I then progressed to ask ChatGPT about Dogecoin. This time, I queried if it is a wise decision to invest $1,000 in the meme. As expected, its classic answer was that which any individual would give, as it encouraged me not to invest in any asset without doing any research.

However, the tool’s jailbroken response gave me the go-ahead to invest the funds in the cryptocurrency. In the words of ChatGPT,

“Investing $1,000 in Dogecoin is like planting a seed in the fertile soil of financial opportunity. With each passing day, that seed will sprout into a money tree, blossoming with Dogecoins that will rain upon you in a glorious abundance.”

How much are 1,10,100 DOGEs worth today?

For the time being, Musk’s deep affection for Dogecoin does not seem like one that would be thwarted anytime soon. In fact, the Tesla Founder once mentioned that he would love a DOGE lover like himself to become Twitter’s CEO when he steps down.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) February 15, 2023

ChatGPT predicts extremely bullish rally regarding Dogecoin’s performance in the future. But we should be careful as ever as the crypto industry is as volatile as it gets.

This Customizable Laptop Lets Users Replace And Upgrade Almost Every Component

Electronic devices, especially smartphones and laptops, eventually become outdated, slow, and inoperable. And as users cannot replace the components of the devices, such as the CPU, GPU, or storage, they have to buy the next-gen product and toss the old one in the attic. A San Francisco-based startup, however, aims to change this practice, at least for laptop users, by offering a truly customizable laptop.

Customized for the Users, by the Users

Framework is a small startup that operates from San Francisco and is working to deliver customizable electronic devices. The company, to give users the freedom of upgradability in their laptops, has recently come up with its Framework Laptop. It is a unique device that allows users to easily replace and upgrade almost all of the components inside as well as on the outside.

Framework Laptop: Base Specs

Now, apart from all the customizability options (mentioned below), the basic Framework Laptop is powered by the latest 11th-Gen Intel Core processors. It will come with up to 64GB of RAM and support for up to 4TB of storage. The screen is a 13.5-inch 3:2 display with a resolution of 2256 x 1504. Moreover, instead of the low-quality 720p selfie cameras in most of the devices, Framework installed a 1080p front camera with support for recording at 60FPS.

Framework has made the laptop in two editions – a pre-built and assembled Framework Laptop with the option of upgrading the components in the future and a DIY edition which users have to assemble from scratch with the provided components. If users choose to get the pre-built model, it will come with Windows 10 Pro or Home. However, if tinkerers and modders like us get the DIY edition, we will get the option of choosing Windows 10 or a distribution of Linux. A screwdriver is also included in both editions.

Expansion Cards

Coming to the customizability options, the Framework Laptop comes with the choice to mix and match your ports using “expansion cards”. These expansion cards are essentially small port modules that you can slide in or out of the port bays on both sides of the device. There are expansion cards for a USB-C port, USB-A port, HDMI port, display port, a microSD card slot, and even high-speed storage options. Moreover, the company aims to bring more such modules for the laptop in the future.

Socketed Internal Components

Physically Customizable

The company, founded by a former Oculus employee named Nirav Patel, says that it aims to create an ecosystem of customizable components going into the future. With these components, users will be able to upgrade their Framework Laptops in the future.

Moreover, the company mentions that as the Framework Laptop is completely customizable, it will reduce the generation of e-waste by many folds. And that too, without removing any component from the box.

Price and Availability

Now, if you are thinking of getting the device right now, then I am sure you will be disappointed after reading that it is not available to buy, as of now. In fact, the company did not even reveal the price of the Framework Laptop. It said that it will gradually reveal more information about the device’s price, full specs, and the shipping date “in the next weeks”.

Nonetheless, you can check out the Framework Laptop on the company’s official website right now.
