Tesla Autopilot is getting aggression settings
Tesla plans to allow drivers to make Autopilot more aggressive on the road, Elon Musk has revealed, even if doing so also dials up the risk of accidents. Musk confirmed the upcoming setting at the Tesla Autonomy Day, the automaker’s first public deep-dive into the work it has been putting into creating self-driving vehicles.
Tesla’s approach to autonomous driving has certainly been controversial. The automaker has arguably been the most aggressive in pushing out driver-assistance technologies for public use, delivering new Autopilot features via over-the-air updates to EVs while testing its fully-autonomous algorithms in so-called “shadow mode” in the background.
One such update delivered the ability for Tesla cars with Autopilot to automatically change lanes. Initially, that required the driver to initiate the lane change, by indicating. More recently, however, Navigate on Autopilot has added the ability to decide to change lane and carry that process out, without first running it past the driver. Now, Tesla says, it’s seeing over 100,000 automated lane changes carried out successfully every day, with zero accidents so far.
That’s great in theory but, as one attendee at the analyst and investor event today pointed out, it doesn’t necessarily work so well depending on how aggressive other drivers are on the road at the time. If you’re trying to deal with particularly competitive highways – such as those in Los Angeles – then other human drivers may not allow the sort of spaces the current Autopilot system decides it requires to safely switch lanes.
In the future, however, Tesla plans to address that with more flexibility over how the AI drives. “We’ll offer more aggressive options over time that users can specify,” Musk said.
“We’ve been conservative,” Musk explained of Tesla’s approach so far. However as the automaker gets confident in the resilience of its algorithms, it’s planning to let Autopilot get more ambitious. What’s interesting is that those changes will, to at least some extent, be left up to owners to decide how far to implement.
That will include a decision that could see the likelihood of accidents increase. “In the more aggressive modes in traffic there is the slight chance of a fender-bender,” Musk conceded. The outspoken CEO laughed as he described it as “Mad Max Plus” mode. “You can just dial the setting up. Be more aggressive, be less aggressive. Chill mode, aggressive.”
It’s not the first time we’ve seen talk of more human-like driving habits being required, if autonomous technologies are to ever be practical in the real world. One argument has been that, if self-driving vehicles are too perfect, they’ll actually prove to be uncomfortable for riders and incompatible with other road users.
What remains to be seen is how Tesla’s decision might impact liability. Currently, Autopilot – despite its capabilities – is still considered a driver-assistance system. As such Tesla owners are still expected to be monitoring the system and ready to take over should something go wrong. If that driver has dialed up the aggressiveness of Autopilot, it’s uncertain how that could play into the legal implications of that potential “fender-bender” when insurers, police, investigators, and others get involved.

Tesla Complains To Congress Over Fatal Autopilot Crash Investigation
Tesla complains to Congress over fatal Autopilot crash investigation
Tesla has been removed as a party to the NTSB’s investigation into a fatal Model X crash, with the agency taking issue with the automaker’s premature public release of Autopilot information. The crash, on March 23, saw a Model X SUV collide with a barrier on the highway in Mountain View, California, killing the driver.
Shortly after, Tesla confirmed that the car had been operating on Autopilot, its adaptive cruise control system which also handles lane-keeping. Autopilot had warned the driver with both visual and audible notifications that he was to retake the wheel, Tesla said, having sifted through the car’s logs from the time of the crash. When the electric SUV collided with the barrier, the driver’s hands had been off the wheel for six seconds.
That eagerness to share information has now landed the automaker into hot water. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced today that Tesla has been removed as a so-called “party” to the investigation, “because Tesla violated the party agreement by releasing investigative information before it was vetted and confirmed by the NTSB.” The agency said that it had informed Tesla CEO Elon Musk the previous evening by phone call.
The party system is designed to augment the NTSB’s limited number of employees, designating third-party organizations or corporations as officially assisting with the investigation. “Only those organizations or corporations that can provide expertise to the investigation are granted party status and only those persons who can provide the Board with needed technical or specialized expertise are permitted to serve on the investigation,” the NTSB says
“Such releases of incomplete information often lead to speculation and incorrect assumptions about the probable cause of a crash,” the agency points out, “which does a disservice to the investigative process and the traveling public.” It’s not the first time Tesla has prematurely released information in this manner, either, a fact that NTSB chairman Robert L. Sumwalt, III highlights in his letter to Musk confirming this week’s decision.
Tesla’s argument is that it believes the NTSB process is simply too slow, and said that it chose to pull out of the party agreement. In a statement given to SlashGear, a spokesperson from the automaker accused the agency of being “more concerned with press headlines than actually promoting safety” and of being selective in what information it releases publicly. As a result, Tesla will be making an official complaint to Congress.
“Last week, in a conversation with the NTSB, we were told that if we made additional statements before their 12-24 month investigative process is complete, we would no longer be a party to the investigation agreement. On Tuesday, we chose to withdraw from the agreement and issued a statement to correct misleading claims that had been made about Autopilot — claims which made it seem as though Autopilot creates safety problems when the opposite is true. In the US, there is one automotive fatality every 86 million miles across all vehicles. For Tesla, there is one fatality, including known pedestrian fatalities, every 320 million miles in vehicles equipped with Autopilot hardware. If you are driving a Tesla equipped with Autopilot hardware, you are 3.7 times less likely to be involved in a fatal accident and this continues to improve.
It’s been clear in our conversations with the NTSB that they’re more concerned with press headlines than actually promoting safety. Among other things, they repeatedly released partial bits of incomplete information to the media in violation of their own rules, at the same time that they were trying to prevent us from telling all the facts. We don’t believe this is right and we will be making an official complaint to Congress. We will also be issuing a Freedom Of Information Act request to understand the reasoning behind their focus on the safest cars in America while they ignore the cars that are the least safe. Perhaps there is a sound rationale for this, but we cannot imagine what that could possibly be.
When tested by NHTSA, Model S and Model X each received five stars not only overall but in every sub-category. This was the only time an SUV had ever scored that well. Moreover, of all the cars that NHTSA has ever tested, Model S and Model X scored as the two cars with the lowest probability of injury. There is no company that cares more about safety and the evidence speaks for itself.” Tesla spokesperson
It’s clear that Tesla and the NTSB differ in their view of what comprises public disclosure. “Transparency in the investigative process is achieved through the public release of on-scene information, preliminary reports, and the public docket,” the agency counters, “as well as through board meetings that are open to the public.”
Tesla remains a party to other ongoing investigations the NTSB is running, including a Model X crash in August 2023, and a Model S crash in January of this year.
China Is Winning The 5G War And The Us Is Getting Desperate
China is winning the 5G war and the US is getting desperate
Still fearing Huawei is a pipeline for US secrets to be eavesdropped by the Chinese government, the Pentagon is pushing for open-source 5G software to give networks a more trusted alternative. The US Department of Defense has long alleged that Huawei represents compromised security, and has made several attempts to prevent carriers and other American companies from using its networking hardware.
Huawei has long maintained that it is independent from the Chinese security services, and that its products do not offer backdoor access or any other sort of compromised data. With the rollout of 5G networks, however, that insistence hasn’t been enough to assuage Pentagon suspicions.
Now, the US DoD is pushing for an alternative. The agency has apparently been pushing US firms to develop open radio access networks, which would use open-source technologies rather than proprietary systems. As such, customers – like ISPs and carriers – could effectively mix and match hardware, rather than being limited to a single provider.
While the motivation is mistrust of Huawei – one of the key 5G infrastructure vendors – the Pentagon is pitching a different reason to companies, the FT reports. US officials are apparently considering various ways to encourage open-source alternatives, such as promising tax breaks, and warning that those who don’t buy into the idea risk being left behind as the market gathers pace.
As Porter sees it, companies looking to develop closed 5G systems run the risk of replicating the mistake made by Kodak in the early days of digital photography. The company has become a cautionary tale in business, having effectively invented digital cameras but then dragging its heals in the new segment in the hope of sustaining its dominance in film photography. As a result, rivals took the lead and left Kodak to dwindle in profits and, eventually, in relevance altogether.
“The beauty of our country is that we allow that marketplace to decide the winners,” Porter argues. “The market will decide. If someone is dragging their feet, that’s up to them to decide, but then the market will decide from there who wins.”
Adding to the problem is that there’s no American company which makes an end-to-end solution for 5G. That has even led to suggestions within the US DoD that it could fund European alternatives to Huawei, such as Ericsson and Nokia. That way they could fill in gaps in US tech, such as in radio towers.
Huawei has found itself under renewed attack in the US, in some ways as much a casualty of President Trump’s trade war with China as it is of security service distrust. Earlier in 2023, it found itself on the trade block list, and in theory no longer able to ink deals with US companies such as Google. That has left it to produce Android phones without key Google apps and services.
Earlier this year, the US DoD warned that 5G was a war that America was on track to lose, specifically calling out the opportunities that the country risks ceding to China if new policies are not instituted. Penned by the Defense Innovation Board at the DoD, it called out elements like the US’ use of mmWave as potentially creating a gulf between 5G in America and abroad. Without the US to guide 5G’s development, the authors conclude, foreign companies like Huawei will take the lead in hardware deployment, and impaired security will be an inevitability.
“DoD should assume that all network infrastructure will ultimately become vulnerable to cyber-attack from both an encryption and resiliency standpoint,” the report warns.
Best Monitor Settings For Gaming
Have you recently purchased a new monitor and are considering gaming? We’ve all been there, and the adrenaline rush is surreal. However, having a great monitor isn’t everything.
To get the best gaming experience, you must have a good gaming setup and monitor setting to match it. Monitor Adjustments refer to changes in resolution, refresh rates, enabling screen tearing removal technologies & calibration.
These are some of the most important factors, but there are others too. We have compiled a list of factors to consider. Check them one by one and adjust your settings accordingly.
We will start with the main things and move on to complimenting factors. Check these settings parallelly, and by the time you finish this article, you will be set to start gaming.
We recommend starting with a factory reset. The reset will bring the monitor settings to the manufacturer’s exact settings. Think of it as creating a blank canvas for you to customize.
We can do the reset through the on-screen display menu with the help of the monitor’s buttons. The exact placement of this option can vary from monitor to monitor. Try to find yours and set it to factory settings.
Every monitor has a combination of horizontal and vertical pixels. You can check these resolution combinations through the display settings.
Remember, we cannot change the max resolution of the monitor. We only get to choose the given combinations.
Now, if you are gaming, two factors will come into play.
Speed/ Response
Quality of visuals
We recommend not focusing much on high resolutions for Gamers that emphasize competitive or online gaming. Speed is the most important factor in these games.
Try to find a sweet spot where speed is not sacrificed, and you still maintain a usable resolution.
Follow the steps to check and adjust resolution:
If you are using multiple monitors, select the monitor first on the top section of the display settings before choosing the resolution for that external monitor.
High FPS GamesProfessional high FPS gamers will generally play with low resolutions like 1920*1080 on small size monitors (24-27 inches).
This resolution trick will be applicable for games like COD, Overwatch, Valorant, or any game where split-second decisions can get you the win. In simple terms, these players sacrifice resolution for speed.
High Graphics GamesWe recommend bumping the resolution to its highest capacity for gamers who are into more immersive role-playing games like The Witcher, Red Dead Redemption, Elden Ring, or God of War. These games would be no fun with low graphics and resolutions.
Remember, the higher the pixels, the more strain it will impose on the graphics card. If you plan on playing games at 4K, you will need a current powerful graphics card at least equivalent to a GTX 1080.
Refresh rate is the rate at which the monitor refreshes its total pixels in one second. High refresh rates mean that the monitor can refresh and show new visual information faster. Higher the refresh rate, smoother the performance in gaming.
Every monitor will have a maximum refresh rate. Consider the maximum as the ceiling that we cannot change. We recommend setting them to the highest possible number for the best experience.
Alternatively, you can directly go to display adapter properties for Display N (N is the display number) and choose List all Modes. A list of combinations of resolution with refresh rate will pop up. Try choosing the highest possible combination.
A 60 Hz refresh rate should be the minimum baseline in today’s standard. We recommend monitors with at least 144 HZ or more if you ask us.
If you have multiple monitors set up, we recommend moving the game to the monitor with the highest refresh rate.
Important Tips
Remember, maintaining a high refresh rate isn’t only dependent on the monitor. The following conditions should be met to maintain a high refresh rate.
The monitor should have a high refresh rate.
The Graphics card and its ports should support the stated high refresh rate
The cable connecting the monitor to the graphics card should transfer the needed speed.
Do not approach refresh rate as a fixed rate. Think of it as “at what resolution can I maintain a particular refresh rate while using a particular port on the graphics card?”
We have a designated article talking about maintaining 144hz through HDMI. We recommend checking it out. The same concepts apply to higher refresh rates. Once you understand its core concept, it will be with you for life.
If your monitor is G- Sync or free Sync categorization, we recommend enabling it. Adaptive sync technologies help in reducing screen tearing and shuttering issues during gameplay.
It utilizes a variable refresh rate system where the monitor’s refresh rate gets controlled according to the frames rendering output of the graphics card. Please check the driver requirements for Gsync compatible monitors.
Before turning G-sync on through the control panel, check the OSD settings of your monitor and turn on adaptive sync/ DDC/CI / Free sync (whichever is listed).
For Nvidia users For AMD UsersAMD users get their own version of adaptive sync called Free Sync. We recommend checking their official website to enable the Free Sync on your monitor.
You can also set up free sync monitors to use g sync, provided you have an Nvidia Graphics card.
Overdrive pushes the monitor’s response time which in turn helps in reducing any ghosting or trailing problems.
Unfortunately, you can only use overdrive if your monitor has overdrive features. We recommend checking the monitor specifications for these settings.
Please check your on-screen display menu with the help of the buttons present on the monitor. Monitors usually list it as:
Overdrive
OD
Response time
Trace free
We consider this to be crucial if you are using adaptive sync technologies. As most monitors with adaptive sync technologies use Variable refresh rates, overdrive is needed to balance things out.
Adaptive sync technologies make the monitor work for the graphics card. It adjusts the refresh rate according to the frames produced by the graphics card. So there might be a lot of jumping up and down in terms of refresh rate.
The monitors that use adaptive sync technologies also tend to have a lot of refresh rate capacity.
E.g., Check out the G-sync monitor’s list from NVIDIA. Most high-performance monitors will have variable overdrive features.
Overdrive is needed to balance this variableness. We have a specific article on enabling overdrive in monitors. We recommend reading it thoroughly before tinkering with overdrive settings.
This is crucial as using overdrive to the extreme can create another problem called inverse ghosting issues.
Under normal circumstances, most of us won’t even care about this. But if you are a hardcore gamer that needs the perfect color combinations, then this is a must.
You can calibrate monitors through the following methods:
Calibrating hardware
Custom ICC profiles for the specific monitor
Windows designated tool for calibration
Online websites
Remember to let the monitor run for around 30-45 minutes to warm up properly and get to its usual brightness levels.
You can directly calibrate the monitor for normal users through the windows tool. A big downside to this is that we use our eyes to calibrate the monitor, so chances of human error increase drastically.
Press the Windows key and search/select calibrate Display color
A white screen with instructions will pop up. We should move this white screen to the Display that you want to calibrate
Select next
Follow on-screen instructions.
There are also calibration websites with test images that we can take as a reference point. You can use your monitor OSD settings simultaneously while using these test images to calibrate the Display.
There are also plenty of already configured color profiles on the internet. These files have stored color information as a series of numbers that can be downloaded and used for your monitor.
We recommend googling profiles on the internet. A lot of websites are dedicated to creating such profiles.
Two same models of monitors with the same spec and brand might react differently with the same color profile. There will always be slight manufacturing differences.
Hence, the best method is to use a hardware colorimeter or spectrophotometers. We can plug these devices into the computer and place the calibrating machine on the monitor. You will also need to install its driver.
Both hardware devices have their strengths and weaknesses. Colorimeters are good at handling a wide range of luminances, low light readings, and contrast measurements.
Spectrophotometers are more accurate in color readings but aren’t that good for low light readings.
Spectrophotometers generally start around $1400-$2000. It might exceed the price of the monitor itself. Unless you have money lying around, we recommend getting a colorimeter.
This hardware does come with a price, but some electronics shops also rent it out. We recommend checking it out.
Factory reset the monitor or turn every post-processing enhancement like blue light filters, shadow boosting modes, dynamic contrast features, image-enhancing modes, eco or power-saving modes.
Some monitors come with an inbuilt speaker. Under normal circumstances, we recommend using gaming headphones or speakers, but if you do not have them, this might be the only option. Turn the sound on for these monitors to get audio.
These settings will depend on personal preferences. You can adjust the brightness, contrast, and sharpness according to your liking via the on-screen display menu on the monitor.
There is no universal formula to this. Put the brightness and contrast in a setting that you are most comfortable with. As games generally run for hours, the setting should be centered toward your preference.
Excess brightness or contrast might cause eye strain, so be wary about the effect of the setting on you.
Under normal monitor settings, the monitor will exude blue light. We can reduce this by enabling blue light reduction from the on-screen display menu on monitors or through night mode in the windows operating system.
Try to find the setting through the OSD settings first; else, move on to the steps below:
Press Windows Key and search/select Night light.
Use the slider to increase or decrease the strength of the night light.
You can also schedule the night light to automatically run-on custom hours or from sunset to sunrise. Do what is comfortable to you.
This setting aims to brighten dark areas without compromising lighter areas. During a game, you will have both light and dark sides; a black equalizer, as the name suggests, lightens up the black or darker areas.
The exposure of the lighter areas does not increase and stays the same.
This option will be in the monitor’s on-screen display menu if available. Check yours and turn it on.
However, for immersive games, we recommend turning them off. It ruins how the game was supposed to be played. You aren’t limited to split-second decisions like real-time high fps gun games, so enjoy the visuals.
Let us know the only way to find the best configuration for you. Let us know what kind of gaming settings you use that get you the best gaming result.
Getting Your Clustering Right (Part I)
Clustering is one of the toughest modelling techniques.
It takes not only sound technical knowledge, but also good understanding of business. We have split this topic into two articles because of the complexity of the topic. As the technique is very subjective in nature, getting the basics right is very critical.
This article will take you through the basics of clustering. The next article will get into finer details of the technique and identify certain scenarios where the technique fails. The article will also introduce to a simple method to counter such scenarios.
[stextbox id=”section”]What is clustering analysis?[/stextbox]
Clustering analysis is the task of grouping a set of objects in such a way that objects in the same group (called a cluster) are more similar (in some sense or another) to each other than to those in other groups (clusters). Following figure is an example of finding clusters of US population based on their income and debt :
It is one of the subjective modelling technique widely used in the industry. One of the examples of common Clustering usage is segmenting customer portfolio based on demographics, transaction behavior or other behavioral attributes.
[stextbox id=”section”]Why do we need clustering ?[/stextbox]
Hence, clustering is a technique generally used to do initial profiling of the portfolio. After having a good understanding of the portfolio, an objective modelling technique is used to build specific strategy.
[stextbox id=”section”]Industry standard techniques for clustering :[/stextbox]
There are a number of algorithm for generating clusters in statistics. But we will discuss in detail only two such techniques which are widely used in the industry. These techniques are as follows :
1. Hierarchical Clustering : This technique operate on the simplest principle, which is data-point closer to base point will behave more similar compared to a data-point which is far from base point. For instance, a , b ,c, d, e,f are 6 students, and we wish to group them into clusters.
Hierarchical Clustering will sequentially group these students and we can stop the process at any number of clusters we want. Following is an illustrative chain of clustering :
Hence, if we want 3 clusters, a , bc and def are the required clusters. So far so simple. The technique uses the very basic of clustering and is, therefore, a very stable technique.
The only problem with the technique is that it is able to only handle small number of data-points and is very time consuming. This is because it tries to calculate the distance between all possible combination and then takes one decision to combine two groups/individual data-point.
2. k-means Clustering : This technique is more frequently used in analytics industry as it is able to handle large number of data points. FASTCLUS is an algorithm used by SAS to generate k-means cluster. Lets try to analyze how it works.
As can be seen from the figure above, we start with a definite number for the number of required cluster (in this case k=2). The algorithm takes 2 random seeds and maps all other data points to these two seeds. The algorithm re-iterates till the overall penalty term is minimized.
When we compare the two techniques, we find that the Hierarchical Clustering starts with individual data-points and sequentially club them to find the final cluster whereas k-means Clustering starts from some initial cluster and then tries to reassign data-points to k clusters to minimize the total penalty term. Hence for large number of data-points, k-means uses far lesser iterations then Hierarchical Clustering.
[stextbox id=”section”]Steps to perform cluster analysis:[/stextbox]
Having discussed what is clustering and its types, lets apply these concepts on a business case. Following is a simple case we will try to solve :
US bank X wants to understand the profile of its customer base to build targeted campaigns.
Step 1 – Hypothesis building : This is the most crucial step of the whole exercise. Try to identify all possible variables that can help segment the portfolio regardless of its availability. Lets try to come up with a list for this example.
a. Customer balance with bank X
b. Number of transaction done in last 1/3/6/12 months
c. Balance change in last 1/3/6/12 months
d. Demographics of the customer
e. Customer total balance with all US banks
The list is just for illustrative purpose. In real scenario this list will be much longer.
Step 2 – Initial shortlist of variable : Once we have all possible variable, start selecting variable as per the data availability. Lets say, for the current example we have only data for Customer balance with bank X and Customer total balance with all US banks (total balance)
Step 3 – Visualize the data : It is very important to know the population spread across the selected variable before starting any analysis. For the current scenario, the exercise becomes simpler as the number of selected variables is only 2. Following is a scatter plot between total balance and Bank X balance (origin taken as mean of both the variables):
This visualization helps me to identify clusters which I can expect after the final analysis. Here, we can see there are four clear clusters in four quadrants. We can expect the same result in the final solution.
Step 4 – Data cleaning : Cluster analysis is very sensitive to outliers. It is very important to clean data on all variables taken into consideration. There are two industry standard ways to do this exercise :
1. Remove the outliers : (Not recommended in case the total data-points are low in number) We remove the data-points beyond mean +/- 3*standard deviation.
2. Capping and flouring of variables : (Recommended approach) We cap and flour all data-points at 1 and 99 percentile.
Lets use the second approach for this case.
Step 4 – Variable clustering : This step is performed to cluster variables capturing similar attributes in data. And choosing only one variable from each variable cluster will not drop the sepration drastically compared to considering all variables. Remember, the idea is to take minimum number of variables to justify the seperation to make the analysis easier and less time consuming. You can simply use Proc VARCLUS to generate these clusters.
Step 5 – Clustering : We can use any of the two technique discussed in the article depending on the number of observation. k-means is used for a bigger samples. Run a proc fastclus with k=4 (which is apparent from the visualization).
As we can see, the algorithm found 4 clusters which were already apparent in the visualization. In most business cases the number of variables will be much larger and such visualization won’t be possible and hence
Step 6 – Convergence of clusters : A good cluster analysis has all clusters with population between 5-30% of the overall base. Say, my total number of customer for bank X is 10000. The minimum and maximum size of any cluster should be 500 and 3000. If any of the cluster is beyond the limit than repeat the procedure with additional number of variables. We will discuss in detail about other convergence criterion in the next article.
Step 7 – Profiling of the clusters : After validating the convergence of cluster analysis, we need to identify behavior of each cluster. Lets say we map age and income to each of the four clusters and get following results :
Now is the time to build story around each cluster. Lets take any two cluster and analyze.
Cluster 1 : (High Potential Low balance customer) These customers do have high balance in aggregate but low balance with bank X. Hence, they are high potential customer with low current balance. Also the average salary is on a higher side which validates our hypothesis of customer being high potential.
Cluster 3 : (High Potential high balance customers) Even though the salary and total balance in aggregate is on a lower side, we see a lower average age. This indicates that the customer has a high potential to increase their balance with bank X.
[stextbox id=”section”]Final notes :[/stextbox]
As we saw, using clusters we can understand the portfolio in a better way. We can also build targeted strategy using the profiles of each cluster. In the Part 2 of this article we will discuss following :
1. When is cluster analysis said to be conclusive?
2. Different scenarios in which each of the two techniques dominate?
3. When do both techniques fail?
4. Step by step solution in a scenario when both the techniques fail.

Tech Cios Getting Deeper Into Product Development
In the last few years, the scope of CIOs has widened, and they have now been connected to the external environment and business. Let’s see how CIOs are working beyond their scope and in what segment they are going deeper!
Like every company, the main objective of an IT company is to offer a product to its client. Now as IT companies mostly make digital products often called services or software. Even in the case of physical products, companies and customers are both going digital for purchase and sale. As mentioned, the role of the CIO was to manage the digital infrastructure, systems, and processes; they are now responsible also for E-commerce, Online Services, Delivery of digital products, digital marketing, and digital products for employees.
CIO, or Chief Information Officer, is one of the key positions in an IT company. A CIO is responsible for managing the internal systems, technology, work environment, and infrastructure of the IT company, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. The role of the CIO is very important to fulfilling business goals and is considered one of the highest positions in an IT company.
Tech CIOs & Product DevelopmentThe connection or relation between CIO and product development went deeper after the outbreak of the pandemic. The pandemic has spread remote work culture and has brought digital transformation everywhere and in every segment. Now CIOs have to work closely on product development to manage the company’s remote operations, ensuring high work efficiency and productivity of employees and further taking care of online sales and distribution.
Why Do Tech CIOs Need to Get Deeper into Product Development?Though the pandemic is almost over, remote work culture is still there, and online sales and delivery will not go anytime soon. Now Tech CIOs are going deeper into product development, ensuring smooth, fast, and agile operations. It improves the overall working environment and efficiency, ensuring highly innovative and superior-quality products for customers. Secondly, modern tools and products for internal infrastructure improve employees’ productivity and create a feeling of satisfaction among them. It will also give senior authorities more grip over data, statistics, market, and internal work culture giving rapid progress to the business.
How Do CIOs affect Product Development?CIO is a very high position, and the person appointed to this role has years of industry experience. They have already passed the product development cycle or have been a part of the product development team in their early career stages. They have a specific skill set that can be used easily for product development. Also, as they are perfect in managing processes, they can prove highly effective in-service products like customer service, recruitment, automation, and cloud or data centers. All these segments are a part of IT infrastructure, and nothing can match CIO when it comes to IT infrastructure management. Let’s see in detail about CIO’s effective part in product development.
Customer ServiceDespite telecalling or on-site, customer service has gone completely digital, and CIOs can revolutionize this segment. As Tech CIOs are highly involved in employee satisfaction and query management, they can help exceptionally in developing new mechanisms and products for the best customer service. Also, customer service is a part of internal IT infrastructure, so Tech CIOs have a direct touch with the whole process, including customer feedback and other consumer data.
RecruitmentThough Tech CIOs didn’t have any direct connection with the recruitment process, they can make it faster, smoother, and more effective with product development. A lot of HR automation software are there in the market, and these are developed taking extensive help from Tech CIOs. Technical training software products and infrastructure development also come under Tech CIOs. The recruitment process is incomplete and worthless without proper training infrastructure and tools. It also helps in retention.
AutomationThese are just a few; Tech CIOs’ scope is continuously widening.
How Do Tech CIOs Directly Impact Company Revenue? There is no doubt in the fact that Tech CIOs play an important role in fulfilling a company’s financial goals and other objectives, but they don’t have a direct impact on revenue. Let’s see how Tech CIOs, through product development, can directly impact an IT company’s revenue and profits. So, the answer to this question is offering internal infrastructure and business IT solutions to other small companies.
ConclusionNot only Tech CIOs, but if you are working in an IT company and you have a great technical skill set, your scope can’t be put into a boundary. And when it comes to high positions like CIOs, their scope will obviously widen continuously. It not only benefits the organization in terms of profits, revenue, popularity, and sales but also benefits employees and the CIO itself in many ways. So, it is 100% correct and absolutely fine that Tech CIOs are going Deeper into product development, especially after remote and hybrid culture has spread widely everywhere. It is the need of the hour, and it is a good practice to involve more and more experienced technical personalities in product development, ensuring great growth and an impeccable working environment.
