Safari For Windows 10: How To Get And Install It

If you use a Mac or an iPhone, it’s hard to pick a different browser over Safari. It’s incredibly fast, uses minimal resources, and respects user privacy. But if you also use a PC, you won’t have the luxury of installing Apple’s flagship browser on Windows since the Cupertino-based tech giant does not develop Safari for the Windows PC. That’s a major issue when your gear consists of cross-platform products.

Download and Install Safari on Your Windows PC

Regardless, the steps below will walk you through downloading and installing Safari on your Windows 10/11 PC. But unless you just want to have a feel of how Safari looked almost a decade earlier, we recommend you stay away from it.

1. Download the Safari installer from a software download portal such as Uptodown, Filehippo, or TechSpot. It weighs in at 36.7MB. Unfortunately, Apple no longer supports Safari for Windows, so you can’t get it from an official source.

3. Select Next on the Safari Setup’s Welcome screen.

4. Accept the license agreement and select Next.

5. Specify if you want to add Safari as a desktop shortcut or not. Also, decide if you prefer it as the default browser on your computer (we recommend you don’t select this option). Select Next to continue.

6. Pick an install directory (or leave the default folder path) and select Install.

7. Wait for the Safari installer to finish installing Safari on your computer. Then, select Finish.

Despite being almost ten years old, Safari for Windows doesn’t look too out of place. To the top, you have the familiar URL bar (you can’t use it to perform searches, however), a Bookmarks strip underneath, and a dedicated Search bar on the left corner. By default, new tabs display frequently visiting sites in thumbnail format—you can use the Top Sites and History tabs to switch them and your browsing history.

Selecting the cog-shaped icon at the right corner of the screen reveals the Safari menu, where you can choose to customize the toolbar, access your browsing history, launch a private browsing window, and so on.

Selecting Preferences opens the Preferences pane, which provides options to modify the homepage, pick a default search engine, adjust privacy settings, manage extensions (although extensions support is non-existent), etc.

What the browser does not allow is to sign in with an Apple ID. That makes it impossible to sync your browsing data from an iPhone or Mac. Even if the functionality were present previously, Apple probably would’ve stopped you from signing in to it by now.

During our Safari tests on Windows, the browser started showing its age. Most websites took a long time to load, while web apps (such as YouTube and Google Maps) simply failed or prompted us to switch to a compatible browser. Other than for basic web browsing, it was practically useless.

Safari for Windows also hasn’t received security updates in almost a decade, so we recommend that you don’t attempt to use it for any sensitive activities such as banking or shopping.

Sync Safari Browsing Data via iCloud for Windows

With iCloud for Windows up and running, open the iCloud app and check the boxes next to Passwords and Bookmarks. You can also activate additional iCloud services such as Photos and Drive if you want.

Follow that by installing the iCloud Passwords on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. The former lets you insert and save passwords to the iCloud Keychain. You can also use the iCloud Passwords app (which installs automatically alongside iCloud for Windows) to manage your passwords in Windows. On the other hand, the iCloud Bookmarks extension syncs passwords between Chrome/Firefox and Safari.

Download: iCloud Bookmarks (Chrome)

Download: iCloud Passwords (Edge)

Run Safari via a macOS Virtual Machine

If you want to use the most recent version of Safari on your PC (perhaps to test a feature or extension), the only way you can do that is by running macOS via virtualization software. However, the procedure is not convenient. For starters, Mac’s operating system is not natively supported by most VM software, so installation generally relies on workarounds relying on additional software. Also, it requires lots of free disk space and uses up system resources, not to mention that virtual machine guests generally run sluggishly compared to the host operating system.

If you still want to go ahead and install macOS, the easiest way to do that is by following the instructions within this macOS Virtualbox project on GitHub. It lets you install macOS Catalina as a virtual machine via a Bash script. We’ve condensed it into the following steps:

1. Download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox on your PC (it’s free).

2. Download and install Cygwin with the following dependencies (you can select them during installation).

bash

coreutils

gzip

unzip

wget

xxd

dmg2img

3. Download the chúng tôi bash script from GitHub.

4. Open the Cygwin Terminal. Then, drag and drop the bash script and press Enter.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up macOS as a virtual machine on your PC.

iCloud for Windows Is the Most Convenient

Although it’s possible to download and install Safari on your Windows 10/11 computer, we recommend you stray away from it. The security risks alone make it impractical, and it’s not like you can use it for any serious web browsing anyway due to compatibility issues.

We saw all sorts of great tools from Microsoft over the years, and one of these tools is Windows Essentials.

Windows Essentials worked great on previous versions of Windows, and since this is such widely used set of tools, we decided to make a small guide on how to install Windows Essentials on Windows 10.

Windows Essentials is a collection of Microsoft’s applications and it was first released in 2006.

Over the years Windows Essentials went through various changes with some tools added and others removed from the suite.

Regarding updates, the last update for Windows Essentials was released in 2012, and since Microsoft isn’t actively working on Windows Essentials, many are concerned whether will Windows Essentials run on Windows 10.

We’re pleased to inform you that Windows Essentials can be installed on Windows 10, and that many of its applications work perfectly.

The customer support period ended in January 2023, so it is not available for Windows 10. Currently, Windows Essentials can’t be downloaded from Microsoft Store.

If you need something similar to this product, you may try Microsoft Photos app, where you can create and edit videos with text, music, animations, filters, and 3D effects.

You can also download Windows Essential from third party websites, but on your own risk.

How can I install Windows Essentials on Windows 10?

Installing Windows Essentials on Windows 10 is rather simple, and you can install it by following these steps:

Download Windows Essentials.

Run the setup file.

If you’re not familiar with Windows Essentials, we’ll give you a short guide on what does each application do.

First on our list of tools is OneDrive. As you know, Windows 10 comes with OneDrive preinstalled, therefore you cannot install it using Windows Essentials.

If you want to know what is OneDrive and how it works on Windows 10, we wrote an article about it, so be sure to check it out.

Next on our list is Windows Live Mail. This is a popular email client and direct successor to Outlook Express. If you’re planning to use this client, bear in mind that Windows Live Mail doesn’t work with Outlook anymore.

If you want to download and use Windows Live Mail on Windows 10, check out this guide.

Photo Gallery is an image viewer with a simple to use interface. In addition to viewing images, this tool allows you to edit images, apply different effects to them and share them online.

If you want to download and install Photo Gallery on Windows 10, follow the simple steps from this guide.

Photo Gallery not working on Windows 10? Don’t worry, we’ve got the right solution for you.

Movie Maker is a popular video editing software, and many older users will probably remember that this tool was a part of older versions of Windows.

Microsoft did some changes, and Movie Maker is now a part of Windows Essentials, and it works perfectly on Windows 10.

Movie Maker has stopped working? Check out this guide and solve the problem in no time.

Windows Live Writer is a blogging client and it allows you to access several major blogging services such as WordPress, SharePoint and many others.

By using this tool you can easily write blog posts right from your desktop, without using the blog’s web interface.

We should also mention Windows Live Messenger. As you remember, we choose not to install this tool because Windows Live Messenger service was discontinued in 2013.

Since Messenger service was canceled, all of its users switched to Skype.

As you can see, Windows Essentials worked great on Windows 10, and you could install it and use it without any problems.

Is Your Windows 7 Install Illegal?

Microsoft issued a friendly reminder in a blog post earlier this week that if you installed Windows 7 on a blank hard drive using an upgrade disc, your Windows installation is illegal. Well, maybe… but I’ll get to that in a second.

Redmond’s post was a response to a host of blogs and other Web sites that explain how you can perform a clean install of the new OS on any hard drive using the Windows 7 upgrade disc instead of purchasing a full version of the new operating system. That’s a tricky move since it will save you at least eighty bucks, but Microsoft says it’s a no-no.

How to Be a Pirate Customer

When you use a piece of software on your computer you are required to abide by its end-user license agreement (EULA). You know what the EULA is don’t you? It’s that big chunk of text you see above the “I Accept” button you see when you’re installing new software.

Anyway, part of Microsoft’s EULA for upgrade discs says that you must own a full version of a previous version of Windows if you want to use the Windows 7 upgrade disc. So, if you do a fresh install of Windows 7 using the upgrade disc, and you don’t own a previous version of Windows, congratulations: you’re a pirate customer.

Who doesn’t have a copy of Windows?

But do you really need to hack Windows 7? If you’ve owned a computer in the last 8 years, then chances are you’ve got a copy of Windows XP or Vista lying around somewhere. Not to mention that computers typically come with the OS pre-installed, so how did you end up with a blank hard drive in the first place?

But let’s say you built your own computer, picked up a Linux-based system on the cheap or your first attempt at a Windows 7 upgrade failed and your hard drive is now blank. You still may not be eligible to use the upgrade disc.

Imagine, for example, you’ve got a two-year old Sony Vaio that came with Windows Vista preinstalled, but you just picked up a brand new laptop running Ubuntu. If your plan is to use your old Vista discs from Sony as a way to upgrade your laptop to Windows 7 on the Linux system, you’re on your way to piracy. Not to mention the fact that most manufacturers tweak the included Windows discs to work only with the computer brand they were intended for.

The funny thing is, as I understand it, you can’t just own a previous copy of Windows. You also have to have that older copy of Windows installed on the computer you’re upgrading to Windows 7. So if you wiped your hard drive by accident while trying to upgrade to Windows 7, technically you have to install XP or Vista first, before upgrading. It’s so easy to end up a pirate isn’t it?

Piracy or not, I’d be surprised if the upgrade disc hack becomes a particularly widespread problem. It’s just so much simpler–not to mention more common–to pick up a computer with Windows already installed on it.

How To Setup And Use Live Captions In Windows 11? – Webnots

Live Captions help to show the text transcript of the audio playing on your computer. This is an accessibility feature for those having difficulties in listening audio or understanding the video content. If you frequently watch learning videos in different language, then try Live Captions to show English transcript and level up your skills. Windows 11 comes with a default feature to enable or disable Live Captions and here is how you can do that.

Things to Understand Before Using Live Captions

By default, Live Captions option is disabled in Windows 11. Here are the things you should understand before enabling it manually.

The feature needs language files from Microsoft to be downloaded in your computer. This essentially means you do not need internet connection for getting text transcripts when the audio is playing.

Since the audio is processed in your system, no data is sent to Microsoft or third-parties when using Live Captions.

It is only available in English (United States) and with Windows 11 version 22H2 or later.

Update: Microsoft added 10 additional languages for Live Captions support with Windows 11 Moment 3 update in June 2023. The supported languages include regional dialects of English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and Danish.

Enable Live Captions in Windows 11

There are four methods to enable Live Captions in Windows 11 PC. Once enabled, you will see the text transcription showing on the Live Captions bar when the audio is playing. You can simply close the bar to disable Live Captions.

Method 1 – Using Keyboard Shortcut for Live Captions

Method 2 – Enable Live Captions from Quick Settings (Action Center)

The old Windows 10 Action Center is called Quick Settings in Windows 11. From this panel also you can toggle all accessibility feature.

Turn on the switch against “Live Captions” to enable it.

Using Live Captions in Windows 11

Now that you have enabled and setup Live Captions on your computer and the next step is to test how it works.

Open any audio or video file on your system. Let me open a .mp4 audio file with Windows Media Player for testing.

Press “Windows + Control + L” keys to open Live Captions.

Start playing the file and you will see the bar shows Live Captions with your selected style as the audio plays.

Check Live Captions in Windows 11

Instead of opening a file from your system, you can also open YouTube or any other website that plays audio and see the Live Captions. Windows generates live captions with very good quality only when you play the audio in US English. Otherwise, you will see the text generation takes long time with lot of mistakes in words and punctuations. This is because the Live Captions feature works only in US English and uses US English language pack for processing the audio.
