Apple released the stable build of iOS 15 to the public a few days ago and many of you may be experiencing the new interface for the first time and wondering how things work. Amidst various improvements, a renewed focus has been brought to the Find My app that now offers continuous live location sharing. This means, people you share your location with can see your real-time position as you move around instead of getting updates every few minutes. 

If you’ve successfully set up Live Tracking on the Find My app on iOS, we’ll help you understand how you can see your friend’s live location, request them to share their whereabouts, and get directions to their location. 

How to see someone else’s location

Before you go ahead and try to look for your friend’s location on Find My, you need to know that you will be able to see someone’s location on the app if:

Your friend has shared their live location with you on Find My

You’re trying to view their location within the period that they’ve shared it for

Once that’s out of the way, you can now look for someone’s location on Find My. For this, open the Find My app on your iPhone and select the ‘People’ tab at the bottom. Here, you should see a list of people whose location has been shared with or with whom you’ve shared your location or both. Along with the list of people, you should also be able to preview their location in the map section above. 

To see your friend’s location individually, tap on their name from within the ‘People’ tab. 

When you open a person’s location, you should be able to see their full address under their name and its zoomed-in location on the map above.

How to request your friend’s location

If the person whose location you want to access hasn’t shared it with you, you may need to request them to make it available to you. To send a request to see someone’s live location, select the person with whom you’ve shared your location inside the ‘People’ tab on the Find My app.

On the next screen, scroll down and tap on the ‘Ask to Follow Location’ option.

Your request will now be sent to the other person and you should be able to see this prompt on your screen.

How to get directions to your Friend’s location

If you have access to someone’s real-time location on Find My, you may also be able to get directions to their whereabouts so that you can catch up with them easily. For this, select the ‘People’ tab at the bottom and select the name of the person you want to get directions to. 

Swipe up on the screen that appears next and tap on ‘Directions’. 

This will launch the Maps app on your screen. Here, you will be able to see the location of your friend at the top. 

In the window below the map, you’ll see your relative distance and the time it’ll take to reach your friend’s location. You can tap on ‘Go’ to start getting step-by-step directions to your friend’s location on your screen. 

How to mark someone as Favorites

Next, swipe up on the screen select the ‘Add to Favorites’ option. 

The selected person will now always appear at the top of the People list. 

How to set a label for your friend’s location

Now, swipe up on the screen and select the ‘Edit Location Name’ option. 

Inside the ‘Edit Location Name’ screen, select a label from existing options or create a new one using the ‘Add Custom Label’ option. 

When you set a label for your friend’s location, it should appear below your friend’s name. 

How to remove someone from your ‘People’ list

Now, swipe up on the screen and select the ‘Remove’ option. 

The selected person will now be removed from your People list.

And if you’re just unboxing a new Galaxy S23 for the first time, switching on Find My Mobile should be one of the first things you do.

Here’s a rundown on what you need to know about using Samsung’s Find My Mobile service:

What is the Find My Mobile service? How does it locate my lost or stolen device?

Samsung Find My Mobile uses location information collected by Google, as well as data passing through wireless networks, in order to identify where a mobile device might have been accidentally left behind or even stolen.

How do I activate Find My Mobile?

On your Galaxy mobile device, open Settings and tap into the “Biometrics and security” menu.

From there, tap the “Find My Mobile” option and toggle “on.” You’ll need to enter your Samsung account details, or you can easily create an account if you don’t already have one.

If you think you have misplaced your phone nearby, you can tap “Ring” within the Find My Mobile service. You device will sound at maximum volume even if it is set to mute or vibrate mode.

Lock screen, prevent power off, and show a contact message

If you are concerned your device may have been unlocked, Find My Mobile lets you remotely lock it. You can also prevent others from powering the device off, so that it’s location can still be tracked. In addition, you can have a contact message and phone number appear on the screen so that anyone finding the device can reach you.

What if my device is on the move?

If you think your device might be on the move, select “Track location.” You will then be able to receive an automated update on it’s location every 15 minutes.

How can I back up my data or wipe a lost device?

If you’re unable to retrieve your lost device, you can also try to remotely back up your data. To make use of this service, you should make sure Samsung Cloud is activated on your device. A wide range of data can be backed up to Samsung Cloud and restored when you get a replacement device.

You can also tap “erase” in Find My Mobile to remotely delete all data and perform a factory reset. Before you do this, note that it will also remove your Samsung account from the lost device, so you will not be able to locate it after the reset.

Find My Mobile also allows you to remotely adjust the power saving settings on your lost phone to extend the battery life. Switch to maximum power saving mode to increase the time your device will stay on so you can locate it.

If you’re one of the people who is experiencing difficulties after updating to iOS 15 or iPadOS 15, read along to help troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s battery issues, general sluggish performance, problems with installing or updating to iOS 15, wi-fi and networking problems after the update, issues with apps, amongst other problems, you’re probably not alone, this article aims to help get it all worked out.

There seems to always be a segment of iOS and iPadOS users who experience problems with system software updates or after updating, and iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are not exceptions. Fortunately most of the issues are well known enough to be able to remedy easily without a major hassle, so let’s dig into the troubleshooting.

Be sure you back up your iPhone or iPad before attempting any of these procedures, and also before attempting to install any system software update.

1: Can’t Install iOS 15 or iPadOS 15? Stuck on “Preparing for Update” or “Verifying Update”?

Sometimes installing the update itself can be problematic, often when this happens the software update section of the Settings app will spin endlessly, or show a “Verifying Update” message that doesn’t go away in a reasonable amount of time, or the indicator will show “preparing for update” but doesn’t seem to start.

Typically this is sorted out on its own with patience. Wait a bit then try again.

Sometimes rebooting the iPhone or iPad helps too.

2: iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 Update Not Showing Up?

If you’re behind a few releases of iOS, you may see iOS 14.8 available instead of iOS 15. If this is the case, scroll further down on the Software Updates screen to see the ‘also available’ section where iOS 15 will be shown as available to download and install.

If you don’t see the iOS 15 or iPadOS 15 update at all, it may be because the device does not have internet service, or because the device is not compatible with iOS 15 or iPadOS 15.

Be sure to check iOS 15 compatibility and iPadOS 15 compatibility to make sure your device can run the new system software.

3. Apps Crashing with iOS 15 / iPadOS 15

Sometimes apps start crashing after updating system software.

Typically this is because the apps have not been updated to support the latest iOS or iPadOS release yet.

If this happens, be sure to check the App Store for updates for the apps, and install them when they become available.

Some apps aren’t updated right away so it may take a few days to find an update available.

You’ll also want to check for any available system software updates, because sometimes Apple will release another small update quickly after the major update to resolve problems that are only found after the initial release. This often arrives in a form of something like iOS 15.0.1 or iPadOS 15.0.1.

4. iPhone / iPad Battery Draining, Bad Battery Life After iOS 15 / iPadOS 15 Update

Many users experience battery life issues after installing a system software update, where it feels like the device is draining faster than it should.

This is typically because the iPhone or iPad is running background tasks behind the scenes, doing things like indexing data on the device, scanning through photos, and performing general maintenance to make sure features work as expected.

The simplest solution to this problem is typically to plug in the iPhone or iPad overnight, connected to wi-fi, for a few days, and let the indexing complete. The more stuff on the device the longer this process takes. Usually within a night or two things are back to normal.

Spotify has acknowledged a bug with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 which may cause the app to excessively drain battery. A bug fix update will be released to resolve this from Spotify.

For the time being, when you’re not using Spotify app, quit out of the app, or be sure to disable Background App Refresh as covered later in this guide.

5. iPhone / iPad is Slow After iOS 15 / iPadOS 15 Update

Performance issues are often noticed by some users after installing a major system software update to iOS/iPadOS.

Typically any performance issues are related to the indexing and background tasks that go on after updating iOS/iPadOS, and those can temporarily impact the speed of a device.

For the most part if you plug in the device to a power source, then leave it be for a night or two, the performance issues should resolve themselves as the device completes indexing, similar to the battery draining issues.

6: iOS 15 Failed to Install, And Now the iPhone / iPad Isn’t Working

Very rarely, an iOS or iPadOS update renders a device unable, rendering the device to be ‘bricked’ (ie unresponsive to anything).

You may have noticed Safari looks different, especially on iPhone.

8. Bluetooth Problems with iOS 15 / iPadOS 15

Some users experience Bluetooth problems after updating their device. Rebooting the iPhone or iPad can often fix these issues.

Some users have also discovered their AirPods are disconnecting after updating to iOS 15. Typically re-pairing the AirPods works to resolve that issue – yes it’s a little annoying.

9: Wi-Fi Problems with iOS 15 / iPadOS 15

Is your wi-fi disconnecting or having issues after the iOS 15 update?

First, try rebooting the iPhone or iPad by turning it off and on again.

Next, disconnect the wi-fi network, wait a few seconds, then reconnect to see if that resolves the problem.

10: Erroneous “Storage Almost Full” Alert on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15 / iPadOS 15

Some users are getting an erroneous “iPhone Storage Almost Full” or “iPad Storage Almost Full” error message in settings after updating to iOS 15 / iPadOS 15. This message shows up even if the device has plenty of storage available.

While you may try rebooting the device, the message often sticks around.

Update: this bug has been resolved with iOS 15.0.1 / iPadOS 15.0.1

11. Device Crashes, Randomly Restarts, Freezes, Stuck on Black Screen, etc

Noticing the iPhone or iPad randomly crashing, restarting, freezing, or stuck on a black or white screen? These are somewhat rare issues but typically a quick force restart is all that is necessary to get out of the situation of a frozen device or blank screen.

To force restart iPhone / iPad model with Face ID, press the volume up button first, then press the volume down button, and then hold the side/power button until the Apple logo shows up on screen.

12. Apple Watch problems with iOS 15 and iPhone 13

A known issue is causing the Apple Watch unlock mechanism to not work properly with iPhone 13 models. A bug fix update is expected to resolve this issue.

Update: this bug has been fixed in iOS 15.0.1

13. AirPods Problems with iOS 15

Some users have noticed their AirPods disconnect, or need to be re-synced to function properly with iOS 15.

Additionally, some users have noticed sound quality or performance of AirPods seems to be lessened, and that the microphone is having issues, and that Siri is not working properly on some AirPods Pro that prevents the noise cancelation feature from toggling off or on as usual.

Some of these are known issues that are set to be resolved in a future iOS software update.

14. Touch Screen Unresponsive / Problems After Updating iOS 15

Some users report the iPhone touch screen becomes unresponsive, or less responsive, after updating to iOS 15.

Some users report that turning the iPhone off and back on again, or force restarting, temporarily resolves the issue.

This is a known issue that will apparently be resolved in an upcoming iOS 15 software update.

15. Phone Calls Dropping, Speakerphone Turns Itself On

Some users have reported their phone calls are dropping more often after updating to iOS 15 on iPhone. Typically placing another phone call is sufficient to resolve this issue, as it is more likely to be an issue with cell tower connections than the OS itself.

Other users have reported that speakerphone randomly turns itself on while on a phone call, particularly if the iPhone is in a pocket or purse, with AirPods or headphones in use. This may be related to the Touch Screen issues reported by other users. There is no known solution to this issue, aside from not having the iPhone in a pocket, purse, or other enclosure while on a phone call.


How To Combine Your Live Photos In A Video In Ios 13

Live Photos have been around in iOS devices for a few years now, allowing you to capture the specific moments before or after taking a photo. These moments can then be viewed later with the photo, and specifically showcase 1.5 seconds of motion before and after the photo was taken. It’s a small but incredible feature that can add an array of emotions and be a beautiful reminder of the memories surrounding a simple photo.

A new feature introduced in iOS 13 allows users to combine multiple Live Photos into a video from within the iOS Photos app. This is much better than the previous method of stitching together multiple live photos, which was usually by using an external video editor.

First, we’ll be covering how to take Live Photos on your iOS device (for those of you who are not familiar with it), after which we’ll discuss making a video out of multiple Live Photos:

1. Open the Camera app on your iOS device.

2. At the top of the screen you’ll find an option to turn Live Photos on. It’ll be a yellow circle icon with rings around it. When Live Photos is on, the circle will be yellow.

3. Taking a photo with Live Photos on will save it both as a normal photo and a Live Photo. You can view it in your gallery later.

To view a Live Photo:

1. Open your gallery and select the photo you just took.

2. You should see a Live Photo sticker on the top left of the screen. Once the photo is opened, simply press on it to view the animated live photo.

You can also use it as a wallpaper or share it with your friends.

Combining multiple Live Photos into a single video involves saving the Live Photos into individual videos. To do this,

1. First locate the Live Photos you want to merge into one video. You can do this by scrolling down to Live Photos in the Albums tab of the Photos app.

2. Tap on “Select” in the top-right corner.

3. Select the Live Photos that you’d like to merge together into one video.

3. Choose the “Save as Video” option.

iOS will generate the video and save it to your Camera Roll. You can access it from there or the Videos section of the Albums app in the Photos app.

That’s it. Using this simple method, you can easily combine multiple live photos into a single video to send to others and view later.

How To Manage The Home Screen In Ios 15

The Home Screen of an iPhone can quickly spiral out of control. Thankfully, there are multiple ways to bring order to the chaos. You can move apps and widgets around, put apps into folders, stack widgets on top of one another, etc. 

iOS 14 even introduced the ability to hide complete Home Screen pages, while the introduction of the App Library meant that you could finally remove apps without deleting them.

If you’ve just upgraded to iOS 15 or later, you’ll find additional ways to manage the iPhone’s iOS Home Screen. You’ll learn about them in detail below.

Delete iOS 15 Home Screen Pages

Do you have multiple Home Screen pages on the iPhone filled with apps you barely use? If you use an iPhone with iOS 15 or later installed, you can easily delete them.

Note: Deleting an iOS Home Screen page will not uninstall the apps on it. You can continue to open them via the App Library or Spotlight. 

Start by entering jiggle mode. Long-press a vacant area within the Home Screen or tap and hold an icon to do that.

Once in jiggle mode, tap the strip of dots (which denotes the number of Home Screen pages) at the top of the iPhone’s Dock. That should bring up a screen showing all Home Screen pages on the iPhone in thumbnail format.

To delete a Home Screen page, start by unchecking the circle underneath it. 

Tap the Minus icon to the top-left of the thumbnail. 

Tap Remove to delete the page. 

Tap Done to save your changes.

You can repeat the instructions above to remove all Home Screen pages. iOS will force you to leave at least one-page intact to prevent you from fully deactivating the Home Screen. 

Rearrange Home Screen Pages

Have you ever wished that you could simply re-order how each Home Screen page shows up on your iPhone? You can do this on the iOS 15 Home Screen.

Again, jiggle the Home Screen and tap the strip above the Dock to view Home Screen pages in thumbnail format. Then, hold and drag each page in the order you want them to appear. 

For example, you can have the first page, filled with unused stock apps, as the last and your last page as the first. Tap Done to save your changes.

Filter Pages Using Focus Mode

iOS 15 introduces an improved version of Do Not Disturb dubbed Focus. Instead of blocking all notifications, it sports the ability to let through alerts from specific apps and contacts. For example, you can use the Work profile to turn off notifications from non-essential apps while allowing those vital to your workflow. 

But a relatively hidden feature in Focus is its ability to display specific Home Screen pages only while having a profile active. To do that, you must edit the profile using the steps below.

Open the Settings app and tap Focus. 

Pick a profile to start editing it. 

Under the Options section, tap Home Screen.

Follow that by turning on the switch next to Custom Pages. 

Select the exact page or pages you want to see with the profile active. 

Tap Done to save your changes and go back.

The main editing screen also features additional options, such as automating the profile per a schedule or using automation triggers. Perform any required adjustments and exit the screen.

To activate the profile manually, open the iPhone’s Control Center and tap the Do Not Disturb icon. Only the Home Screen page or pages you specified earlier should then show up.

Install to App Library Only

Install to App Library Only is an iOS 14 feature, but it’s worth reiterating. If you tend to install and experiment with many apps, you can avoid cluttering up the Home Screen going forward by installing them directly to the App Library. 

To do that, open the Settings app and tap Home Screen. Under the Newly Downloaded Apps section, select App Library Only.

Keep the iOS 15 Home Screen Tidy

Effectively managing the iOS 15 Home Screen can go a long way toward enhancing the user experience on the iPhone. The options in iOS 15 should allow for even more control, and hopefully, subsequent iterations of the system software will make organizing even better.

Like every year, like clockwork, a new version of iOS has dropped. The latest, iOS 15, not only improves some of iOS 14’s staple features but also brings a bunch of new stuff. As always, there has been some controversy surrounding the new OS. This time, it comes in the form of Child Safety. This new addition practically makes way for Apple to scan photos in your gallery, which has ruffled quite a few feathers in the industry. 

Today, we will tell you how this technology works and tell you whether Apple’s iOS 15 scans your private photos.

Will iOS 15 scan photos in your gallery?

Child Safety in iOS 15 is a newly introduced feature that is meant to stop the distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material or CSAM. To make it work, all iOS 15-running devices does scan for problematic content on every user’s device and notify the authority if necessary. So, technically, yes, iOS 15 does scan your photos under certain circumstances.

However, the situation, at least from Apple’s perspective, is a lot less dire than most are making out to be. Instead, Apple believes its CSAM scanning is a lot more secure than the techniques its competitors are using.

How does photo scanning work in iOS 15?

If you go by the sensationalized reports, you would think that Apple employees might actually be looking into your private photos one by one. Yes, we understand that these wild reports originated from Apple’s overly simplistic feature announcement, but the company has since gone on and added more clarity to the Child Safety tech or CSAM scanning. 

The downloaded database is converted into string (of numbers) format, which means the users are not seeing the images on their iPhones. If a match is found, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) gets notified, and then a human reviews the matches personally. Finally, if the representative finds the image problematic, appropriate actions are taken against the perpetrator. 

Apple’s clarification confirms that no human Apple employee scans and reviews your photos, at least right away. The NCMEC database is the first layer of verification. If and only if a match is found, the photo is sent over to NCMEC where it is verified by a human.

Can you stop iOS 15 from scanning your photos?

Yes, stopping iOS 15 from scanning your photos is rather straightforward. All you have to do is stop uploading your photos to iCloud and you are good to go. Apple has confirmed that the check is performed only if you have opted to upload your photos to iCloud. In 2023, iCloud has over 170 million premium users, meaning a sizable chunk of the smartphone population is affected by the CSAM scanning functionality.

Is iOS 15 comprising your privacy? 

Unlike other services that scan your entire library, Apple promises that it only matches your library with the on-device CSAM database, instead of scanning your entire iCloud library. If a match is found, then only your photo leaves your device and is viewable by another human. Also, Apple is making the CSAM databases auditable, hoping to put most of the doubters’ minds at ease.

Many still believe that governments could use iOS 15’s CSAM scanning as a backdoor to look for wanted fugitives, target certain demographics, and more. Apple has reassured that iOS 15’s image scanning is only built for CSAM databases and cannot be configured otherwise. 

Apple has landed itself in a tough spot with CSAM scanning, and it is anybody’s guess whether the most valuable company in the world would be able to get out of it.
