The grand strategy wargame formula is back in the mix, this time with Imperator: Rome. Brought to us by Paradox Interactive, the game serves as a sequel to the well-known Europa Universalis: Rome game.
In terms of timeline, the action is set between the foundation of the Roman Empire, till onset of the Diadochi Wars. The map is set in the Iberian peninsula, featuring more than 7000 cities, with this many terrain to go by, all nations present in the game are playable.
With all this being said and done, we’ve compiled a list of common bugs reported by users.
Common Imperator: Rome issues: 1. Black screenSometimes when you’re launching the game, the only thing you’ll see is a black screen.
2. Savegame problemsNumerous players have reported having troubled with saving their progress, requiring that they start a new game. With problems carrying over when they load a previously saved game.

8. Endless validationIt’s all fun and games when you get the game in your Steam library, but when the game is stuck in an andless validation loop, there’s no laughing matter here.
Downloaded the game late last night, opened it up and set all the settings to max graphics. Opened it this morning and said exe was invalid. I then validated the game, it said 1 file had issues and after validating would stop and then begin to validate again. It has been doing this for over 5 minutes; each loop is about 30 seconds.

Is Your Windows 11 Pc Slow? Try These 8 Fixes
Upgrading to a new version of Windows is supposed to improve performance, yet many people see the opposite. If your PC has slowed down after moving to Windows 11, here are some fixes to speed things up.
Note that it isn’t always Windows 11 that is causing the issue. Bloatware, unnecessary startup programs, or even the state of your hard drive can lead to a slow computer. Let’s look at some ways to fix these performance issues.

Fix 1: Update Windows 11Windows 11 is still dealing with bugs and inefficiencies as a new operating system. Microsoft keeps patching these out, but that requires you to keep up with the latest Windows updates.
Updating Windows 11 is often the best way to fix a slow system, especially if the problem started only after transitioning to the new version of Windows.
To update Windows 11, head to
Settings
. You can find its gear icon in the Start Menu.
Fix 2: Disable Visual EffectsWindows 11 has revamped the UI to give a sleeker, more vibrant experience, but these fancy visuals come at a cost. Computers with dedicated GPUs will hardly feel the slight performance overhead, but everyone else will experience a significant slowdown.
To be clear, we are not talking about the new icons or the clutter-free menus – only the transparency and animation effects that slow down your computer. Disabling these will have minimal impact on your user experience but can significantly improve performance.
If you want to disable

Fix 3: Remove Startup ProgramsSome applications start up automatically every time you boot your computer. While this primarily includes critical system processes, some unnecessary apps also force their way into this list.
These startup programs delay your PC’s boot times and slow its functioning by cornering memory and CPU cycles better spent elsewhere. Some of these might even be viruses.
You can disable a few startup programs from the Task Manager, but you need a dedicated tool like Autoruns to clear them.
For some apps, it’s possible to disable automatic startup from the Task Manager. Press
Ctrl + Shift + Esc
to open the Task Manager.

Fix 4: Check the Hard DiskData corruption, fragmented files, mechanical failures – there are many reasons your traditional HDD might be slowing down your computer. Fortunately, Windows includes many utilities to fix some of these problems.
CHKDSKCHKDSK is a command prompt utility included with Windows since its inception. The tool checks your hard drive’s file system and repairs any inconsistencies detected. While not all-powerful, it’s an excellent way to fix minor issues.
To scan your hard drive for corrupted sectors, use the chkdsk command. First, run

as an administrator. You can find the app by searching for cmd in the Start Menu.
Now just type
chkdsk
and press enter.
The CHKDSK utility will now scan your hard drive and repair any errors it finds.
OptimizeDefragmenting the hard drive was an essential upkeep activity in older computers. Windows 10 has made the process automatic, doing away with the Disk Defragmenter tool.
That doesn’t mean you can’t optimize your drives manually. SSDs don’t need defragmentation, but an older HDD will benefit, especially if the scheduled Windows maintenance doesn’t take place due to frequent shutdowns.

in the Start Menu search box to run the new defragmentation utility.
SFCData corruption will occasionally spread to even system files. This is beyond the ability of CHKDSK to fix. You need to use the SFC and DISM commands.
System File Checker (SFC) is another command prompt utility that comes with all versions of Windows. SFC verifies the integrity of critical system files, replacing them with a backup copy in case they are corrupted.
Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) is a relatively new addition. Found only in Windows 8 onwards, DISM repairs the Windows image by downloading the required files from Microsoft’s servers. This enables SFC to work correctly even if the local cache has been corrupted.
To scan and repair system files on your PC, open the Command Prompt as an Administrator.
Begin with the DISM command. Ensure you have internet connectivity and type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit enter.
A Windows System Image will start downloading, replacing the current, possibly corrupted, version.
Now you can proceed with an SFC scan. Enter sfc /scannow to check the files of the Windows operating system.
Your system files will be verified and repaired using the Windows image downloaded by DISM. This fixes all system data corruption.
Fix 5: Upgrade to an SSDIf you are still using an old-school magnetic Hard Disk Drive (HDD), switching to a Solid State Drive (SSD) is the best way to get a speed boost.
Early SSDs were error-prone and failed quickly, but this is no longer a problem. Modern SSDs last just as long as traditional HDDs and perform far better.
Many SSD drives are available, but even the slowest versions can easily outpace a standard hard drive. And thanks to falling prices, buying an SSD is cheaper than ever.
Even if you aren’t keen on ditching your current drive, consider migrating Windows to an SSD. This will improve boot times, speed up your computer’s normal operations, and eliminate the possibility of fragmentation or mechanical failure.
Fix 6: Clean Up Your ComputerThe RAM holds information while processing, but the hard drive’s free space is also important. Both SSDs and HDDs perform better when they have free space to work with.
And the easiest way to clear out that space is by removing unnecessary files and programs. This includes temporary files not being used by any active application and bloatware unnecessarily clogging up disk space.
Temporary FilesIn older Windows versions, you had to open the temp folder and delete everything in it manually. While you can still do that, it’s more convenient to enable the automatic Storage Sense feature and let Windows take care of it.
To delete temp files, open the
Settings
app and head to System Storage, or search for
Storage Settings
in the Start Menu.
Here you can toggle on the
Storage Sense
option. This will automatically remove any temporary files and free up space on the drive. You can also select the
Temporary Files
option to view and delete these files right now.
BloatwareBloatware consists of applications on your computer that are never used and are unnecessarily taking up storage space and other system resources. Such apps are usually installed during the installation process of different applications without your express knowledge.
You can remove most of these apps yourself by manually uninstalling them one by one. A better approach is to use a dedicated bloatware removal tool.
Fix 7: Update Graphics DriversIt’s a good idea, in general, to keep your device drivers updated, but no driver has a bigger impact on performance than graphics. A more optimized GPU driver can speed up your computer significantly, especially if you like gaming.
And the best way to update the graphics drivers is to download and install them manually. This way, you automatically get the latest drivers meant for your GPU rather than the generic ones fetched by Windows.
To find the latest drivers for your graphics card, head to the manufacturer’s website. If you are using a laptop, you can also find the correct drivers on the laptop brand’s website.
Enter the model number of your GPU (or laptop) to locate the appropriate drivers.
Laptop driver download pages list all drivers that can be updated on the device. Scroll down until you find the VGA or graphics drivers, and download them. There might be two packages available for systems with a discrete graphics card and integrated graphics.
Run the installer to check if your system’s hardware is compatible with the new driver. If everything looks good, you’ll see the option to upgrade the graphics drivers.
Restart the computer after installation is complete to apply the changes.
Fix 8: Uninstall Third-Party AntivirusThis fix may seem counterintuitive, but removing third-party antivirus applications can greatly speed up your computer. And thanks to the improved performance of the built-in Windows Defender, you don’t have to worry about security either.
In earlier versions of Windows, third-party antivirus software was necessary to safeguard your computer. Web browsers weren’t particularly secure, viruses were rampant, and Microsoft’s own security features were just not good enough.
But that has changed. Windows Defender is now a fully-featured antivirus tool that can successfully detect and remove malware successfully. Browsers like Chrome implement more security checks, and Adobe Flash has been disabled. You can safely uninstall your third-party antivirus app and get an immediate boost in performance on your Windows 11 computer.

A life form called Lokiarchaeota, or “Loki” for short, may prove to be the missing link between simple and complex-cell organisms here on Earth. The discovery of Loki could have major implications for everyone from scientists to text-book writers – not to mention those interested in disproving humanity’s evolution from single-celled organisms. Loki was discovered near the hostile underwater environment called Loki’s Castle, located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between Norway and Greenland, over 2,000 meters below the surface of the water. Loki looks like the Norse god-like character Loki too, in an abstract sort of way.
A new microbe has been discovered. This microbe could very well be the missing link between basic and complex life. The connector between life with simple microbes and those with complex cells.
In short – this may be another extremely important proof of evolution of humans from goop.
Archaea were discovered in the 1970s (by biologist Carl Woese) as being microorganisms with simple, small cells that, besides their cells, more closely related to organisms with complex cell types than they did other simple-celled organisms.
Those with complex cells are called eukaryotes.
But something was missing. There wasn’t an organism that bridged the gap.
Now there may well be.

“The site where Loki [was discovered] is heavily influenced by volcanic activity, but actually quite low in temperature,” according to Steffen Jørgensen from the University of Bergen in Norway. Jørgensen was one of several researchers involved in taking samples at the location Loki was located.
In these extreme environments, scientists occasionally discover oddities they’d have found in no other place on Earth.
“Extreme environments generally contain a lot of unknown microorganisms,” said Jimmy Saw, “which we refer to as microbial dark matter.” Saw is co-load author on the paper which has been published this week. Saw is also a researcher at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Uppsala University.
“The puzzle of the origin of the eukaryotic cell is extremely complicated, as many pieces are still missing,” said Thijs Ettema at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Uppsala University, leader of the scientific team that carried out this study.

“By studying its genome,” continued Thijs Ettema, “we found that Loki represents an intermediate form in-between the simple cells of microbes, and the complex cell types of eukaryotes.”
Results in the study published this week suggest that their eukaryotic host evolved from what they call “a bona fide archaeon.” They show that this ancestor of the current form had many components that then went on to underpin more evolved eukaryote-specific features.
The host, therefor, had what this team of researchers call “a rich genomic ‘starter-kit’ to support the increase in the cellular and genomic complexity that is characteristic of eukaryotes.”

PC Booster is not going to cure everything that ails your PC, but it can give you a good idea of its overall health.
If your computer’s running slow, you’re probably wondering what will give it the jolt it needs. PC Booster aims to help: This $35 application is designed to boost your PC’s performance by optimizing your system from top to bottom. It’s easy to use and sports an attractive interface, but PC Booster may be overwhelming for some users.
PC Booster scans your computer, looking for clutter and faulty settings that may be impacting its performance. It’s designed to look for errors and other issues causing system slowdowns, instability, slow startups, and potential privacy hazards. It does this by looking for hidden junk files that you no longer need and temporary files that are using up space. Once the errors are identified, PC Booster goes to work fixing them, with a goal of delivering you a more stable, faster-running system. (Note: PC Booster’s free version, which PCWorld tested, will fix only 15 errors.) Gauging just how well it works, though, can be difficult.
I tested PC Booster on a Windows 7 laptop that was running very slowly and suffering from frequent system crashes. The computer had been used to test dozens of software programs, many of which had since been uninstalled, and was frequently used by young children who didn’t always operate it with care. PC Booster scanned the system quickly, and I liked that the scan did not start automatically. Some products, such as PerfectRegistry, begin a scan as soon as you launch them, without any warning. System scans can impact performance as they’re running, so it’s nice to have control over them.

In just a few minutes, PC Booster found 557 errors on the PC, with a total of 23,441 items to clean. This is where using PC Booster may overwhelm some users, as the results will likely look like gibberish to many folks. PC Booster does include a set of videos on its Web site that explain how the program works, which will be helpful to PC novices. But these videos can’t answer all questions, and some users will rightfully be concerned, given that some PC tune up utilities, especially those that clean out your PC’s registry, as PC Booster does, are known for going too far, causing more trouble than they’re worth. The folks at PC Booster acknowledge that, in the past, some registry cleaners were overly aggressive, and caution that a program that only cleans a registry is not going to solve all of a PC’s problems. That’s why PC Booster aims to provide a more comprehensive system tune-up, and allows users to select which fixes they would like to apply, and which they would not. It also offers an option to set certain items that the program will ignore.

I tested the program by blindly agreeing to all of its suggested fixes, and was pleased to see that doing so did seem to boost my PC’s speedslightly, but enough to notice, and caused no obvious errors. I was also pleased to see that the program does create a Windows Restore point before beginning any repairs. The privacy fixes did delete some cookies that allowed certain Web sites to remember my computer and my logins, but this was a minor issue.
PC Booster offers some useful tools for fine-tuning your PC’s performance. But it’s not a cure-all for an ailing PC. Even after fixing all 23,411 items, my PC did not return to a like-new state. But it is running a bit faster and more smoothly, which I like. I also like knowing what’s going on under the hood, and PC Booster gave me that knowledge.

How To Disable All Notification Alerts On Your Mac
Notifications coming from the notification bar can be annoying at times. Whether you have just ejected a disk or an app requires some information from you; your Mac will send you a notification letting you know about it. If these notification alerts arrive in bulk or if they come while you are working on something important on your Mac, you are sure to lose your focus and be annoyed.
While your Mac has the “Do Not Disturb” feature to let you turn off these notifications, it automatically gets turned off after a certain time, and you have to turn it on again in order to disable the notifications. Turning on this feature is an annoyance in itself, and that is why we have figured out a method below that lets you keep the “Do Not Disturb” feature turned on for lifetime so that your notification bar does not ever send you any notifications to annoy you.
Disable All the Notification AlertsYou do not need a third-party app to get the job done; you just need to play around with your Mac Settings.
Now, under the “Turn on Do Not Disturb” section, checkmark the box that says “From” and set up the time as follows:
Set any time in the “From” box and enter “From-1” in the “To” box. If the “From” box has the time 10:05 PM, the “To” box should have 10:04 PM.
What happens here is that the above configured settings keep the “Do Not Disturb” feature turned on forever, and it does not automatically get turned off like it did before. That way it prevents all the alerts that come from the notification bar on your Mac and helps you focus on your actual work.
Should you wish to see the notifications that have come into existence after you turned on the Do Not Disturb feature, you can do so by sliding over the notifications panel from the right-side.
While there are ways to completely disable the notifications bar on your Mac, the above solution works just fine to get rid of the notifications and even helps you bring them back should you desire by just unchecking a checkbox in the system panel.
