It’s inspiring how fast the amazing developers at the XDA development community work at releasing hacks for various devices, sometimes even before the device gets released, as is the case with the soon to be released HTC One. The popular custom recovery – ClockworkMod (CWM) – is already out for the HTC’s 2013 flagship, paving the way for custom ROMs for the device.
But what is ClockworkMod recovery? ClockworkMod recovery (abbreviated as CWM) is the most popular custom recovery for Android devices, developed by Koushik “Koush” Dutta. CWM recovery replaces the stock recovery that is present on every Android device and extends its functionality with a lot more features and options.
The one thing that CWM is mostly used for is flashing custom ROMs on devices, which are basically custom versions of Android that replace the default software that a manufacturer puts on their devices. Other functions of CWM include the ability to factory reset a device, backup and restore a device’s ROM, and flash custom kernels, hacks, and mods.

However, there are a few things you must know before you proceed with installing CWM recovery on your device:
Flashing a custom recovery requires unlocking the bootloader on the phone, which permanently voids warranty.
Unlocking the bootloader will wipe all data on the phone, including personal content on the internal storage such photos, music, videos and other files. You can take a backup of everything though and restore it later on.
Accepting official over-the-air software upgrades from HTC might cause issues, so you’ll have to refrain from installing any official updates after flashing recovery (and also unlocking the bootloader).

Compatibility
The procedure described below is only for the HTC One. Do not try it on any other device.

Requirements
NOTE: Backup is optional and you can skip this step if you do not wish to back up anything.
Download HTC Sync Manager
NOTE: Skip this step if the HTC Sync software is already installed on your computer.
Unlock the bootloader on your phone using this guide. Unlocking bootloader wipes all data from the phone so make sure you take a backup as mentioned in step 1.
NOTE: If you’ve already unlocked the bootloader on your device, you can skip this step.
Make sure the “Fast Boot” option is disabled in the phone’s Settings » Power menu. If it is enabled, you’ll be unable to make the phone boot into the required mode for flashing recovery.
Flash CWM Recovery
Extract the Fastboot.zip file on your computer to get a folder named Fastboot with four files inside it.
Download the touch version of CWM recovery from the source page. The file should be named something like “recovery-clockwork-touch-*.*.*-m7.img”, where *.*.* will be the current version of recovery.
Copy the CWM file that you downloaded to the Fastboot folder so that you now have a total of 5 files inside.
Turn off your phone. Then, boot into HBOOT/bootloader mode by holding down the Volume down + Power buttons together till the screen turns on. Then, press the power button once to select “FASTBOOT”, after which “HBOOT” will change into “FASTBOOT USB”.
Then, connect your phone to the computer with your USB cable, then wait for Windows to finish installing the drivers (drivers will be installed only the first time you connect the phone to the computer). For reliability, ensure that you use a USB port at the back if you are using a desktop computer, as the front panel ports can be loose and cause problems.
Now, perform the following steps in the command prompt to flash CWM.
Type in fastboot devices in the command prompt and press Enter. If your phone has been detected properly, you will see a device ID show up in command prompt. If nothing comes up, make sure you have installed the drivers, disconnect phone, remove and re-insert battery, and retry the procedure from step 5.
Now, flash CWM recovery on the phone by entering fastboot flash recovery *filename*.img in the command prompt, where *filename* has to be replaced by the name of the recovery file that you have downloaded. For example: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.0.0-m7.img
After the recovery is flashed, you’ll get a finished/OKAY message in command prompt.
Disconnect the phone, then using volume button, scroll down to highlight “HBOOT”, then select it using the power button.
Then, highlight the “RECOVERY” option, then press power button to reboot the phone into CWM recovery. Once recovery boots up, simply select the “reboot system now” option to reboot the phone into Android.
ClockworkMod recovery is now installed on your HTC One. Make sure to read the “Booting into ClockworkMod Recovery” section below to find out how you can boot into CWM when needed.
Booting into ClockworkMod Recovery
Whenever you want to use CWM recovery, you can boot into it via Fastboot mode. The procedure to boot into CWM recovery is given below.
Turn off the phone.
Then, boot into HBOOT/bootloader mode by holding down the Volume down + Power buttons together till the screen turns on.
Press the Volume Down key a few times till “RECOVERY” is highlighted, then press the power button to select this option. The phone will then reboot into CWM recovery, where you can tap on options to select them.
Rebooting back into Android from CWM recovery can be done by selecting the “reboot system now” option in the main menu of CWM.

METHOD 1: SP FLASH TOOL
Prepare your phone:
Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” checkbox (under Debugging section).
Now extract the CWM RECOVERY FILE package. It will contain two files.

Now again switch off the device and press Volume up + power button to enter into recovery mode. Voila you now have the CWM recovery.
That’s it.

Latest Clockworkmod (Cwm) Recovery For T
HTC One being a flagship device, is neither forgotten by the OEMs nor by the developers. With the KitKat being incompatible with TWRP, there isn’t much of a choice left. But, updated ClockworkMod recovery has started rolling out for various devices to eradicate the in-compatibility issue.
T-Mobile HTC One has received for both of CWM’s touch and non-touch recovery which will be compatible with all KitKat ROMs like CyanogenMod 11, OmniRom, SlimKat, etc.
At the time of posting, the latest version of CWM is 6.0.4.3 for the T-Mobile variant of HTC One. But, of course, this version won’t stay latest for ever. So, if we miss out, do let us know so that we may update the post as required.

STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
You need to unlock bootloader of your HTC One first to be able to install CWM recovery. Since unlocking bootloader would completely wipe (delete everything) on your HTC One, be sure to backup your phone adequately before attempting to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery. Prepare your phone:
Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times to enable developer options.
Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” checkbox (under Debugging section).

How To Boot Into Htc One Max Recovery Mode
A recovery is a separate bootable partition on your Android device that you can use to install system updates and repair (factory reset) your device. A lot more can be done using a custom recovery, but the stock recovery that comes pre-installed on your Android device is limited to these features only. And FYI, these features are integrated into the Android OS as well — when you chose to factory reset your device from device settings or install an OTA update, your device reboots and boots into the stock recovery to finish the job.
The stock recovery that comes pre-installed on your device doesn’t support touchscreen mechanism. You’ll have to use the Power and Volume buttons available on your device to select and navigate between options in the recovery.
There are multiple methods to boot your HTC One Max in recovery mode. The most handy (and hardware coded) method is about pressing a combination of keys for a few seconds on your HTC One Max. Others are software based, let’s have a look them below:
1) Boot into HTC One Max Recovery Mode Using
HARDWARE BUTTONS
This method is a fail-proof method that’ll always work for you, unless you’ve broken one of hardware keys. In such a case you’d be left with only the other two methods discussed below.
Disable Fastboot on your HTC One Max. Go to your device’s Settings » select Battery » and Uncheck the Fastboot option at the bottom.
Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off.

ADB requires a bit of setup, but it gets the job done with much lesser effort than hardware buttons, so pretty useful in cases when you’ve to boot in recovery mode frequently. Also, if (for some reason) your hardware buttons aren’t working than this is a very good alternative to boot into recovery mode.

Yes! There’s an app for rebooting your phone into recovery mode, and it’s the most easier of the methods we discussed above. But it won’t work unless you’ve root access on your device, and since not everyone roos their device, we’ve put this as the last method here.

Open the app and grant Root Access
Select ‘Recovery‘ from the list of options and it’ll boot your device into recovery mode

Xxjw4 Root And Clockworkmod Recovery For Galaxy S
Samsung officially released the XXJW4 firmware, which is the Value Pack firmware Samsung promised for the Galaxy S after they announced that it won’t be getting Ice Cream Sandwich. The Value Pack brings along a few features from ICS, along with general speed and performance improvements.
Those who flashed the XXJW4 firmware can root it and install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery (which lets you flash custom ROMs on the phone) by flashing the CF-Root kernel released by XDA recognized developer Chainfire, who’s always quick with his releases of rooted kernels every time a new Galaxy S firmware is released.

Compatibility

Pre-Installation Requirements

How to Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on XXJW4
Make sure you’ve installed XXJW4 firmware. Try this only on XXJW4 firmware and not on any other firmware.
Filename: CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.zip
Unzip the above file to a folder once. You will get the .tar file – CF-Root-XX_OXA_JW4-v4.4-CWM3RFS.tar — inside the extracted folder. It’s recommended to use 7-zip free software to extract it. DO NOT extract the .tar file (even if you see it as a zip file, which it is not). You need to flash the .tar file using Odin to gain root access and install ClockworkMod Recovery (CWM) alongside. If you’re getting zImage file, it means you’ve extracted the .tar file too! — and that’s not a right thing to do.
Switch off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
Now, put the Galaxy S in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN + Home + Power until a screen saying Download comes up.
Open Odin now. Connect your phone to PC now. You’ll notice “Added!!” message in the Odin’s message box in the bottom left.
Important! Do not touch any other button or make any other changes in Odin except selecting the required file as given in step 8.
IMPORTANT Note: If ODIN gets stuck at some stage and doesn’t seem to be doing anything, do this — disconnect the phone from the PC, close ODIN, remove battery, re-insert it, turn phone on in Download mode again, and do the procedure again from Step 7. Same if you get a FAIL message in Odin.

Your phone is rooted now and CWM recovery has been installed on it. Whenever you try to use an app that requires root permissions, you will get a Superuser prompt, where you can select Allow to grant root access to the app. Custom ROMs can be flashed by booting into CWM recovery when needed. How To Install Cwm And Twrp Recovery On Xperia Z

Recovery for bootloader unlocked Xperia Z
The recoveries shared below are only for official Sony firmwares or modified official firmwares and may not work on AOSP based ROMs. However you can use these recoveries to flash AOSP based ROMs like CM 10.2 and similar ROMs.
CWM Recovery
Recoveries are installed on Xperia Z using a custom kernel. And these custom kernels are firmware specific. So for example, if your phone is running on firmware version 10.3.1.A.0.244, then you need to flash the kernel specific for that firmware. Below are download links for all firmwares, but before downloading make sure to check your phone’s firmware version.
Check your phone’s firmware versionTo check firmware version on your Xperia Z. Go to Settings on your phone » select About phone » Look for Build number. The build number is the firmware version number.
Download CWM kernelOnce you’ve checked your device’s current firmware version, download the kernel specific for your firmware from the list below:
Instructions
We’ll use the 10.3.1.A.0.244 firmware for example in this guide. But you make sure to download and flash only the kernel specific for your firmware.
Extract the fastboot files you downloaded from the link above to a separate folder on your computer
└ You need to transfer the “boot.img” from CWM kernel’s zip file to the folder where you extracted fastboot files on your computer
Now connect your phone in fastboot mode
Switch off your phone
Hold the Volume UP key on your phone and connect it to PC using a USB cable

Unzip/extract the “lockeddualrecovery2.6.3-RELEASE.windows.zip” file (that we downloaded above) to a separate folder on your computer
Prepare your phone
Enable developer options: Go to your phone’s Settings » select About phone » Scroll to the bottom and tap on “Build number” seven times to enable developer options
Enable USB Debugging: Open phone’s Settings » select Developer options » Tick the “USB debugging” checkbox (under Debugging section)

Now from the files extracted in Step 1, execute the .bat file
Run “supersu.bat” file if you’ve SuperSU app installed on your phone
Grant SuperSU access (Root access) on your phone when the recovery installer window notifies you to do so (as shown in the screenshot above). And then, press any key on the installer screen to continue
Your device will reboot automatically now. And here you’ve to make sure that the first boot goes into recovery mode, here’s how
While booting up you’ll see your phone’s LED notification light turn purple or pink, so just when you see that — start pressing the Volume UP key a couple of times and your phone will reboot into CWM recovery
Do nothing once you’re in CWM recovery, just select “Reboot system now” option using the Power key
Close the installer window once it’s done with its job and shows you a “Press any key to continue..” message
That’s it! Dual recovery should be installed on your device now.
