Did you know that Apple offers many useful features that can make MacBooks easier to use for people with disabilities? In fact, anyone can use these features to control their MacBooks more easily. This guide shows what Apple’s Accessibility features are and how to enable them on a Mac.What Are Accessibility Features?
The Accessibility features on macOS allow you to customize the way your computer works to suit your needs. For example, you can use these settings to make it easier to see the screen, hear sounds, control the mouse and keyboard, and use other assistive devices.
There are three types of Accessibility features, and they cover three disabilities: visual, hearing, and motor.
Let’s take a look at the three disabilities one by one.Visual Impairments
Five visual impairment Accessibility features are categorized under the “Vision” heading in the Accessibility menu.1. VoiceOver
VoiceOver tells you what’s on your screen by reading it aloud. Apple has refined VoiceOver over the years, allowing it to read the text and describe documents, graphs, and objects on the screen with much more detail and precision.
Listening to what’s on your screen with VoiceOver allows you to navigate through your Mac flawlessly, even if you have weak eyesight. It also works with Braille displays, so if you connect one to your Mac, it will automatically send auditory descriptions to it.2. Zoom
As the name suggests, Zoom can be used to enlarge the content of your screen. You can use Zoom to magnify your screen in three different ways: full screen, picture-in-picture, and split screen.
Full-screen mode lets you magnify the entire screen of your Mac so that you can read the content without squinting your eyes.
In Picture-in-picture mode, a separate window pops up to magnify the content.
In Split screen mode, only a custom area of the screen is magnified.
To use any of the zooming modes, first check the “Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom” option.
Set the modifier key you want to use with the scroll gesture to activate the zoom mode of your choice. In our case, it’s the Control key.
Once set up, press and hold the Control key and perform the scroll gesture on your trackpad to zoom in or zoom out.
You can also enable “Hover Text,” which magnifies whatever you hover your pointer over in a separate window.
The modifier is the button that activates the feature. If it’s set to the Command key, whenever you hover over text while pressing and holding the key, you will be able to see the text magnified in a pop-up dialog.
Even if you aren’t visually impaired, combining Zoom with VoiceOver can make your Mac considerably easier to use in certain situations.3. Display
Under the “Display” accessibility features, you can tweak your display preferences, pointer, and screen color preferences to better fulfill your visual needs.
From the “Display” tab, invert screen colors, reduce motion, increase contrast, reduce transparency, differentiate without color, show window title icons, and show toolbar button shapes.
You can also tweak your menu bar’s size.
Lastly, to adjust your display’s contrast, use the slider at the bottom of the window and drag it from left to right to increase the contrast.
From the “Pointer” tab, use the “Shake mouse pointer to locate” feature, which enlarges the mouse pointer temporarily when shaken. This is helpful to almost everyone (even those without visual impairments), as it’s often difficult to locate the mouse pointer when you start using a Mac after a break.
You can also customize the pointer size, outline color, and fill color to make the pointer easier to view and locate.
Color Filters Tab
The “Color Filters” feature lets you change your screen to different color sets using full-screen filters. Check the “Enable Color Filters” option to activate the feature.
By using the “Intensity” slider, you can decide how intense you want the filer to be.4. Descriptions 5. Spoken Content
The “Spoken Content” feature is mostly for those who don’t like to –or simply cannot – read content and would rather have their screen read aloud to them.
Under this feature, there are multiple options. First, change the “System Voice,” and hit the “Play” button to preview the voice before setting it.
Adjust how fast the content is read by tweaking the “Speaking Rate” and “Volume” using the sliders.
You can decide how you want to use this feature using four different sub-features.
When enabled, this feature speaks out announcements (like notifications) or alerts (like system errors) only.
With the “Speak selection” feature, the system only speaks out the content that you’ve highlighted.
You can then play with other options, like what kind of content you want to highlight, the word and sentence colors, and styles.
You can also view the controller, which lets you control the speed of the content being read.
Speak Items Under the Pointer
Perhaps the most convenient feature here is “Speak items under the pointer,” which speaks out everything that comes under your pointer.
You can decide whether you want the system to read everything every time or whether you want it to read the content only when you’ve zoomed in on something. To change the setting, use the drop-down.
“Speech verbosity” and “After delay” are two other settings in this feature.
Speak Typing Feedback
The “Speak typing feedback” feature gives you feedback when you’re typing, like suggesting different words and corrections.
From the options for this feature, decide what kind of feedback you want from characters, words, selection changes, and modifier keys. You can select one, multiple, or all.Hearing Impairments
These features can assist if you have hearing difficulties (whether partially or fully deaf).1. Audio
Under “Audio”, is the sensory alerts feature, which converts the sound signals of system alerts/announcements into visual signals.
While usually stereo audio has unique right- and left-channel tracks, with the “Play stereo audio as mono” feature, the two tracks, when listened to together, provide a complete listening experience.
However, if you have hearing disabilities, you will find it difficult to differentiate between the two channels. For that, you can switch to mono audio. Simply check the option to do so.2. Captions
Whether verbal or non-verbal, every dialogue and scene in a video, movie and TV show can be read via the “Captions” feature to assist you if you are hearing impaired.
You can customize the caption settings with different fonts and styles to improve readability using the “Style for subtitles and captions” list.Motor Impairments
Motor accessibility features will help if you cannot use the keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to control your Mac due to physical disabilities.1. Voice Control
With Voice Control, you can control your Mac by speaking to it. There are many commands available for Voice Control, and once you aren’t used to them, you can swiftly navigate through your Mac.
You can perform the following tasks with commands:
Basic Navigation: open and close apps, scroll up and down a page, wake your Mac up and put it to sleep, launch Spotlight and Siri, navigate through different tabs, and so on.
Dictation: speak what you want to type in a text field, and your Mac will convert your audio into text. You can use dictation to type emails without really typing them.
Text Selection: you can also use Voice Control to select text to copy, paste, cut, replace, and format. You can also seamlessly make changes to any part of the text you select.
Use those custom words to create custom commands.2. Keyboard
The “Keyboard” accessibility features help you maximize the opportunities to control your Mac using your keyboard.
Enable “Full Keyboard Access” to navigate through your Mac without using a mouse or trackpad. It highlights the section of the screen that has the focus so that you can press different keyboard shortcuts to perform different actions.
For instance, you can:
Press the Tab key to move to the next UI element.
Press the Spacebar to select an item.
Press the Spacebar twice to open a folder.
From the “Hardware” tab, enable “Sticky Keys,” which lets you press a combination of keys sequentially instead of simultaneously. Instead of pressing the Command + Spacebar shortcut simultaneously to bring up Spotlight, press the Command key, then follow with the Spacebar key.3. Pointer Control
You can also tweak your pointer settings to make it easier to use your Mac.
For instance, you can enable “Mouse Keys,” which allows you to eliminate the need for a physical mouse and move the pointer with just your keyboard.
Additionally, use the head pointer to move the cursor with the movement of your head. It uses your Mac’s camera to track your head movement so that if you move your head to the right, the cursor will also move to the right.4. Switch Control
For users with extreme motor impairments, Switch Control lets them control their Macs with different switch controls, such as joysticks, game controllers, and other adaptive accessories. To show the true capabilities of Switch Control, Apple released a video.
The video was edited by a certified Final Cut Pro video editor using Switch Control.Frequently Asked Questions Are there new Accessibility features coming?
Yes. Earlier this year, Apple announced innovative Accessibility features that’ll be available across devices. These features include Door Detection, Apple Watch Mirroring, Live Captions, Voice Control Spelling Mode, Buddy Controller, and much more. What are Live Captions?
Apple is introducing Live Captions for videos on Mac, iPhone, and iPad. The new feature will intelligently generate captions for media when Closed Captions are not available. Live Captions can be used for FaceTime calls, streaming services, and other media. If you’re running macOS Ventura, read on to learn how to enable Live Captions on Mac.

Does iMessage keep crashing or freezing on your iPhone or iPad? This might be due to bugs or glitches in the iOS 15 update or malware.
We all love iMessage, especially its cool features like Bubble effects and Screen effects. So it’s pretty inconvenient when the Messaging app crashes repeatedly. Don’t worry; I have listed a few fixes to help resolve the issue. Scroll down to learn more.
1. Force quit Messages app on iPhone
On iPhone with no Home Button: Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold
On iPhone with Home Button: Double press the Home Button
Now, drag the Messages app card up and dismiss it to force quit it. After a few seconds, reopen the app. The Messages app will no longer crash or freeze. If it does, please keep reading.
2. Restart your iPhone
You can use the buttons as you normally do to turn off your iPhone. You may also open the Settings app, tap General, and then tap Shut Down.
After a minute, switch on your iPhone. The Messages app problem will be successfully solved.
3. Delete Messages automatically on iPhone
If there are dozens or hundreds of conversations in your Messages app, then deleting some of them might help. You can open the app and manually choose and delete old conversations you no longer need.
Another way is to enable auto-deleting of messages after 30 days or 1 year. For this, Open the Settings app on your iPhone → Tap on Messages.
Next, tap Keep Messages and choose an option other than Forever.
4. Remove unnecessary iMessage apps
If you have too many iMessage apps, then deleting the ones that are not essential might help. Here is a step by step guide on how to delete the iMessage app.
5. Disable and re-enable iMessage
It is an excellent measure to have the latest iOS version on your iPhone. If you are facing frequent freezing or crashing of the Messages app, then a software update might help.
For this open the Settings app → Tap on General → Software Update, and if you have a pending update, tap on Download and Install.
7. Reset All Settings on iPhone
This will reset all iPhone settings like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, VPN configurations, home screen layout, keyboard settings, and more. It won’t delete any personal data like apps, music, or photos. But still, take a backup before proceeding.
Once the process completes, you may need to sign in with your Apple ID. After that, open the Messages app, and most likely, the crashing and freezing problem will no longer be there.
That’s all, folks! Hopefully, this will solve the issue of the Messages app crashing on your iPhone. At last, if nothing helps, you may contact Apple Support for further assistance.
Meanwhile, you can also long-press the Messages app icon and tap New Message to send a text. For the time being, you can also use Siri to reply to incoming text messages. And you may share photos and videos directly from the Photos app until your problem is solved.

Apple’s upcoming mobile operating system – iOS 15, brings with it a bunch of features that improve your productivity and enhance your iPhone’s looks at the same time. The latest iOS allows you to make quick changes to your Home Screen as you can rearrange your Home Screen pages and remove them at will whenever you want to.
iOS 15: How to Edit Home Screen Pages
Besides the customization options that are already available, you can now edit your Home Screen in such a way that you can rearrange pages, hide/unhide some pages from your home screen, and delete a page entirely.
To start editing your home screen on iOS 15, tap and hold on an empty space on your Home Screen.
When your Home Screen goes into jiggle mode, tap on the row of dots at the bottom of the screen.
You should now see all the home screens appear in a grid format.
1. Arrange pages on the home screen
To arrange the pages in your own way, hold and drag on one of the pages of your Home Screen to your desired location. If there are a bunch of pages you want to appear first, drag them to the first row and move the rest of the pages under that row.
You can repeat this for arranging different pages of your home screen the way you want.
Once you’ve made all necessary changes on this screen, tap on ‘Done’ at the top right.
Your home screen will now appear the way you configured it.
2. Hide/Unhide a page from your home screen
iOS allows you to hide one or more pages from your home screen temporarily so that it remains hidden and inaccessible for some time.
When you access your home screens in grid format, you can hide some of the pages you may have created on it by tapping on the Tick mark at the bottom of the page’s thumbnail to uncheck it. Once you’ve made all necessary changes on this screen, tap on ‘Done’ at the top right.
You can do this for other pages you don’t want to see for some time without needing to delete its contents.
3. Remove a page from your home screen
If you no longer want to access a page from your home screen and want to delete it from iOS entirely, you can remove it. Apple only allows you to remove inactive pages from your home screen – that is, the pages that you have hidden already on iOS.
To remove a page from your home screen, first, hide it and then tap on the ‘-‘ icon at the top left corner of the page you want to remove.
You’ll now be prompted to confirm whether you want to remove the selected screen. Tap on ‘Remove’ to proceed.
The selected page will now be removed completely from your iPhone home screen.
How to Move Apps from Spotlight to Home Screen
iOS 15 also offers the ability to move apps directly from Spotlight to your Home Screen, which means you no longer have to access the App Library every time you want to add apps to your Home Screen. We’ve prepared a step-by-step guide about moving apps from Spotlight to Home Screen in the post we’ve provided in the link below.
▶ iOS 15: How to Move Apps from Spotlight Search to Home Screen
Can you create custom home screen pages for different Focus modes?
Apple’s new Focus option has been a major talking feature on iOS 15 since it changes the way you use the Do Not Disturb function on your iPhone. In addition to letting you create a bunch of routines based on your required state, the newest version of iOS lets you set a custom Home Screen so that only a specific page or set of pages appear when a Focus is activated.
This means you’ll have different home screens when you switch between different routines on Focus. If you wish to create custom home screen pages using Focus, read the in-depth post that we’ve linked below.
▶ How to Create and Use Custom Home Screen in Focus on iPhone on iOS 15
That’s all you need to know about editing your home screen on iOS 15.
iPhone 8 and older models used to have a physical home button. The button was used for unlocking with Touch ID (fingerprint) and for various other purposes. However, Apple remove the home button on iPhone X models due to full screen usage. If you are missing the home button, fortunately you can add a soft home button on iPhone screen which can be used for quick navigations. Also check out how to use the back side of iPhone as your home button.Add Soft Home Button in iPhone
Open Settings app and then go to “Accessibility” section.
Tap on “Touch” option under “Physical and Motor” section.
Accessibility Touch Setting
Tap “AssistiveTouch” option and then turn the switch against “AssistiveTouch” option on the next screen.
Turn On AssistiveTouch in iPhone
This will show a soft home screen button which you can drag and drop on any convenient place on the screen.
Tap on the AssistiveTouch button and select “Home” option to view your home screen.

Let me add the Screenshot menu in first screen so that you can easily access without navigating to three screens. Also, keep only 6 items in the first screen and remove all other additional options.
Tap on “Customize Top Level Menu” option.
Here, you will see default set of items showing when tapping on the soft home button.
Default Items in Soft Home Button
Tap on the + or – icons to add or reduce the number of items.
For replacing an existing menu, simply tap on it to view a huge list of options.
Select an item from the list to replace the menu in soft button.
I will tap on “Device” option and replace it with “Screenshot” item.
Replace Device with Screenshot
Similarly, I will replace “Custom” item with “Mute”.
With this, the soft button will have 6 menu items and all will be shown in a single screen.
6 Items in Home Button Single Screen
If you do not want to use the current setup, any time go back to AssistiveTouch customizing section and tap on “Reset…” link. This will reset the soft home button to show default 6 menu items.Tapping Actions for Home Button
By default, single time tapping on the soft home button will reveal the menu items and double tapping or long press will not trigger any action. You can change this and customize the tapping actions on the soft home button for single tap, double tap and long press.
Under “Custom Actions” section, you can see “Single-Tap” is set as “Open Menu”.
If you want to get rid of all additional menu items and use the Assistive Touch button as your home button then tap on “Single-Tap” option.
Set Tapping Action for Home Button
Select “Home” item from the huge list of options and tap “Done”.
Set Home for Single Tap
Now, you can tap on the Assistive Touch button to go to home screen without seeing additional menu items. Personally, I do not recommend this as the menu items are useful to do your favorite actions quickly. So, leave the single tap as “Open Menu” and set a custom action for double tap (example – App Switcher) and long press (example – Screenshot) as you need.
Custom Actions SetupOther Soft Button Options
On the “AssistiveTouch” settings page, scroll down to bottom and turn on “Confirm with AssistiveTouch” option under “Side Button Confirmation” section. This will allow you to pay with Face ID using the soft home button instead of double pressing the side button.
Confirm Payment with Assistive Touch
Custom gesture is one more option to use in the soft button. Select “Custom” menu item after tapping on the soft home button (in default setup). Then tap on one of the + icons.
Add Custom Gesture in iPhone
This will open a recording screen for capturing your custom gesture. Create your gesture and tap on “Stop” link showing on the bottom right corner.
Create Custom Gesture
Tap on “Save” link showing on top right corner and provide a name for your gesture.
Save Custom Gesture
You can see the custom gesture appears in the soft button’s menu (after tapping on Custom menu) and start using it when needed. You can also see the gesture in AssistiveTouch settings page.
View Custom Gesture CreatedFinal Words
The soft home button added in iPhone with Assistive Touch is much more than the simple home button. You can customize the menu items and add custom gestures to make the more out of it.

The Transformer helped machine-learning systems improve much faster, leading directly to the recent release of ChatGPT.
The Transformer also created possibilities for social networks. It applies the same approach as Tiktok but for the text. Here’s How It Works
When you sign up, the Artifact App requests you to select ten topics to personalize your news feed and some paid subscriptions like “The New York Times” and “Washington Post.”
Then, it creates a “For You” page like in Tiktok and tracks how many articles you have read.
If you read more about Cryptography and Arts, it will show more of these articles.
Furthermore, it uses Transformer, which offers a mechanism to understand language using fewer inputs than required.
The App has reader levels, which increase with the number of articles you read.
Its machine-learning systems will primarily measure how long you spend reading about various subjects.
Furthermore, the AI in the App is not only concerned with the contents but also concerns on mental health.
“Artifact will also remove individual posts that promote falsehoods,” Systrom says.
However, many aspects of the Artifact App are under construction, and we may see various updates shortly. How Can You Access The Artifact App?
