Suggested January 2024 How To Set A Static Ip Address On Windows 10.
Windows 10 has a variety of different ways you can set a static IP Address, some are easier than others but all will give you the same result. A static IP. For this guide, we will stick to the three easiest options available in Windows, the Command Prompt, Control Panel and Settings methods.
How to Make Any Windows Store App Launch at Startup.
On almost all home networks, IP addresses are configured using the standard process, which involves your Internet router assigning computers on your network IP addresses. Whenever a new computer or device is added to the network a new IP will automatically be given to the device. This works flawlessly for most situations, however, there are times when a stable static IP address is required. Static IP addresses are IP addresses that do not change unless you manually make the change yourself. Rather than the router allocating an address, it is instead done by your computer, then sent to the router.
The main uses for static IP addresses are file and printer sharing over local networks and when port forwarding. Without a static IP address, these services will often stop working shortly after being set up. This is because the IP address they were connecting to has changed in turn canceling the connection path. Regardless of your reason for setting up a static IP address the steps below will guide you through the process. Simply choose the one you are most comfortable with and follow the steps.
How to Assign a Static IP Address on Windows 10 Using Command Prompt.
Setting up a Static IP address from the Windows command prompt tool is one of the quickest ways to assign a stationary IP. It might look a little complicated but it’s not as difficult as it looks.
ipconfig /all
Command Prompt will now generate a list of information regarding IP address and network settings. Under the network adapter heading take note of the name of the adapter as well as the following information:
IPv4
Subnet mask
Default Gateway
DNS Servers
The next command you need to enter is:
netsh interface ip set address name=”Ethernet0” static 10.1.2.220 255.255.255.0 10.1.2.1
Note: Make sure to change Ethernet0 for the name of your network adapter. You also need to change 10.1.2.220 255.255.255.0 10.1.2.1 with your devices IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
The next command will set a DNS server address.
netsh interface ip set dns name=”Ethernet0” static 10.1.2.1
Note: In the above command make sure to change Ethernet0 to the name of your adapter and 10.1.2.1 to the DNS server address for your network.
The next command will set an alternate DNS server address.
netsh interface ip add dns name=”Ethernet0“ 8.8.8.8 index=2
Note: In the above command make sure to change Ethernet0 to the name of your adapter and 8.8.8.8 to an alternate DNS server address.
Once entered, your IP address will update. To test your connection open your internet browser and check to see if you have internet access.
How to Assign a Static IP Address on Windows 10 Using the Control Panel.
If you don’t like using the Command Prompt you can make the same changes using the control panel.
Here choose Use the following IP address.
Set an IP address for example 10.1.2.220
Next, set the Subnet mask. This is usually: 255.255.255.0
Now, set the Default gateway. This is usually your router’s IP address For example 10.1.2.1
Under Use the following DNS server addresses set Preferred DNS server, again this is usually your router’s IP address, or the IP address of the server providing DNS resolutions. For example 10.1.2.1
Note: You can enter an Alternative DNS server, which your computer will use if it can’t reach the preferred server but this option is optional.
How to Assign a Static IP Address on Windows 10 Using the Settings App.
If you have updated to the Windows Creators Update you can now also set a Static IP Address from the Settings App. (Only available for wireless adapters)
You can now set the static IP address and Subnet prefix length (subnet mask). If your subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, the subnet prefix length in bits is 24.
Set the Default Gateway address.
Set the Preferred DNS address.
Set the Alternate DNS address (optional)
Once you have saved your changes, open your internet browser and test internet connectivity.
Note: It’s always a good idea to assign IP addresses within the network range and outside of the DHCP server scope so you don’t have address conflicts. For example when two devices share the same IP address. If this happens neither device will be able to connect to the internet.

How To Hide Your Ip Address During Voip Calls On Signal
Signal is a privacy-focused messenger and it has a neat privacy-focused feature that may surprise you. IP Addresses are unique identifiers by your internet provider that help validate packets and establish a secure connection between your device and a server. While important for everyday functionality, IP addresses are also unique identifiers that can be used to track you. Additionally, they can be used to identify you which can put you at risk with potentially malicious users.
VPNs help hide your IP address which helps make the connection more secure but Signal has a neat inbuilt feature that automatically hides your IP Address when making calls through the messenger. Let’s take a quick look at it.
Related: Signal vs WhatsApp vs Telegram: Privacy, Permissions, Data Collection, and More
How to hide your IP address on Signal
You can hide your IP Address whether you are using an Android or iOS device. Let’s take a look at the procedure for each platform.
On Android
Open Signal and tap on your profile icon in the top left corner of your screen.
Now tap and select ‘Privacy’.
Scroll down and enable the toggle for ‘Always Relay Calls’ under the ‘Communication’ section.
And that’ it! Your IP address will now be automatically hidden when making calls through Signal be it video or audio.
On iOS
Open the Signal Messenger and tap on your profile icon. It can be found in the top right corner of your screen.
Now tap and select ‘Privacy’.
Scroll down to the ‘Calling’ section and enable the toggle for ‘Always Relay Calls’.
Your IP address will now be hidden for all the calls that you make through Signal.
Why hide your IP Address
Users that are afraid for their privacy can hugely benefit from hiding their IP Address. IP Address helps identify your internet connection. Although hiding it does not ensure top-level security, it does help protect you from the most common risks faced by everyday users. They can help prevent malicious users from tracking you, intercepting your data packets, and hide your identity altogether.
Where hiding your IP address can fail, is when your Mac Address is still publically visible. Your Mac address helps identify individual devices and if someone has a record of your device’s mac address then they might still be able to track you despite having a hidden IP Address. If you feel that you need additional security, then you might wish to use a randomized mac address. Think of mac address as your physical address for a particular device while an IP address would be your mailing address/post box number.
What happens when you hide your IP Address
The most common way of hiding your IP Address is using a VPN. While it guarantees privacy in most situations, your data and your internet traffic is still available to your VPN provider. And depending on your VPN provider’s terms of use and privacy policy, your private data could still be at risk. This would especially be the case if you are using a proxy-based VPN or a free VPN.
Instead, when you decide to hide your IP address through Signal, all your VOIP calls and video calls are redirected through Signal’s privatized servers. This helps hide your IP address not only from prying eyes, but your contact as well. When somebody tries to probe/intercept your traffic, they will be able to view Signal’s IP Address instead when this feature is enabled.
Note: Relaying your calls through Signal’s servers will require additional bandwidth and might introduce reduced call quality on low bandwidth connections.

If you are tired of a static background on your PC, you should know that there is a really simple method to get a more lively background, by using a GIF as your background. Setting a GIF as your background isn’t as hard as you think, and in today’s article, we’ll show you how to do it.
Can I set a GIF as my PC background?Windows 10 is, without doubt, the best Windows ever, colorful, customizable, in short, nothing to complain. But what if we wanted to push the limits in terms of personalization? Speaking of personalization, wouldn’t it be nice to set up an animated GIF as a background?
By default, Windows 10 doesn’t support GIF images as a desktop wallpaper. In order to circumvent this limitation, we have to rely on third-party programs.
There are several tools that can help you, but the best ones are Stardock DeskScapes and BioniX. While DeskScapes is a paid software, we can use BioniX which is free and works very well.
How do I set a GIF as my desktop background on Windows 10? Use BioniX Wallpaper Make a GIF your desktop background on Windows 7Just like Windows 10, Windows 7 doesn’t have support for GIF backgrounds. However, it supports image rotation so you can create an animated background with this workaround.
In addition, you also have the option of using the Okozo desktop suite, which will allow you to easily obtain a much nicer effect. The 2.7 Mb program is really simple to install and you just need to follow these steps to set it up.
Start the application.
Okozo desktop will offer you a series of categories, including Abstract, Cartoon, Movies, Galleries, Interactive, etc.
Select the desired category and the required plug-in.
The download process will now start.
At the end of the procedure the program will ask you if you want to activate the
wallpaper
, so be sure to confirm.
To conclude, it must be said that whatever procedure you choose to animate your Windows 7 background, the system will inevitably suffer in terms of performance. This means that it is preferable to implement this tweak only if you have a good CPU, an excellent dedicated GPU, and obviously a rather large RAM.

Privacy-concerned users are continuously looking for ways to make their Internet sessions safer.
And that includes hiding their IP address when sending emails.
That’s right, we’ll talk about protecting your online identity by sending emails anonymously. Here’s what you need to do.
How do I hide my IP address when sending emails? 1. Use a VPNUsing a reliable VPN is a foolproof method for masking your IP address when sending emails or doing anything else online.
That’s because a VPN encrypts your network traffic to make sure that your data remains private even if it gets intercepted by hackers.
If you’re interested in a secure VPN, we suggest using Private Internet Access (PIA).
It’s a top-ranked virtual private network solution that maintains your online anonymity.
What you should know about PIA:
18,826 VPN and proxy servers (97 locations, 76 countries)
Support for OpenVPN, WireGuard, and Shadowsocks
A zero-logging privacy policy
No IP, DNS or WebRTC leaks
Exclusive DNS servers and a VPN kill switch
24/7 live chat support
30-day money-back guarantee (no free trial)
Private Internet Access
Use a trustworthy VPN like PIA to hide your IP address when sending emails.

2. Use TorAnother way to conceal your IP address when sending emails is by using Tor.
The main difference between Tor and VPN is that, while a VPN connects you to a single server, a Tor bounces your data traffic on multiple servers before it reaches its destination.
The only way you can join the Tor anonymous network is by downloading and using Tor Browser.
3. Use a proxy serverA lot of people misunderstand proxy servers with VPN. But a VPN is definitely more secure than a proxy, thanks to superior levels of encryption.
Still, if you’re not yet ready to commit to a premium VPN solution, it’s a good idea to use a proxy tool to hide your IP address when sending emails.
Besides, you can easily add proxy settings to any web browser in order to reroute your entire browser traffic.
Keep in mind that you might experience performance issues, including slowdowns.
4. Use PsiphonPsiphon is an excellent Internet circumvention tool you can use to hide your IP address when sending emails.
It’s not that different from a VPN. You can download Psiphon for Windows PC, Android or iOS, connect to a server, then compose and send your email.
However, unlike a VPN, Psiphon can’t encrypt your data, so you can’t count on it to protect your sensitive information from hacker decryption.
5. Use public Wi-Fi or switch to mobile dataAnother solution to mask your IP address is to simply change your Wi-Fi network.
For instance, if you’re planning to go out, wait until you can connect to an open hotspot before sending your emails.
Or, if you can switch to a 3G/4G mobile data plan, do it since the mobile carrier will assign a different IP address on your device.
And, if you connect to a VPN, you already gain a different IP address, which means that you won’t need to switch networks.
To recap, you can easily hide your IP address when sending emails by using the solutions we described above: a VPN service, Tor, a proxy tool, Psiphon, or a public Wi-Fi hotspot or mobile data plan.
However, if we had to choose the safest method, there’s no doubt: a VPN.
A trustworthy VPN solution like Private Internet Access (buy here) not only masks your IP address but also changes your geo-location and encrypts your entire data.
Your connection is not secure – websites you visit can find out your details:
Use a VPN to protect your privacy and secure your connection.
We recommend Visit Private Internet Access
We recommend Private Internet Access , a VPN with a no-log policy, open source code, ad blocking and much more; now 79% off.

How To Set Up Recalbox On A Pc
Recalbox is an operating system for retro gaming enthusiasts. Best known for its compatibility with single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi and ODroid, it also supports PCs. This is perfect for testing Recalbox without buying any additional hardware. Additionally, Recalbox for PC will enable you to run your favorite emulators on more powerful hardware for better system and game compatibility.
Why Run Recalbox on a PC?First, the number one reason you’ll want to run Recalbox on your PC is more powerful hardware. While single board computers are pretty powerful for their size, they can’t compete with a traditional PC. More powerful CPUs, faster clock speeds, more RAM and the ability to use a graphics card means your PC is an emulation powerhouse that can run virtually any game from any system.
What You’ll NeedIf running Recalbox on your PC sounds like something you want to try out, there are a couple of things you’re going to need before you get started:
A PC. This can be a relatively new machine with impressive specs or an old machine sitting in your closet. Be aware, however, that the more powerful the PC, the greater system and game compatibility you will have.
Two USB flash drives. One USB will be used for the Recalbox OS; the other will be used to store all of your games. The USB for Recalbox needs to be at least 8GB. What size USB you need for your games will largely depend on your collection, especially if you are planning on playing newer console games. That being said, 32GB should be sufficient for most people.
A keyboard. You’re going to need a keyboard to boot into the Recalbox. A keyboard is also handy when configuring Recalbox once it’s up and running.
A USB controller. While it is possible to play games with a keyboard, you’re going to want a controller.
How to Make a Bootable Recalbox USBThe first thing you’ll need to do is download the Recalbox image that is appropriate for your system. You’ll need to determine whether your machine is 32- or 64-bit and grab the corresponding image. Once the image has downloaded, you’ll need to flash the image to the USB you’re going to use for Recalbox.
How to Run Recalbox on Your Windows 7 (or Earlier) PCNow that you have your Recalbox USB, insert it into a free USB port on your computer. Next, you’ll want to boot your system from the USB instead of the internal hard drive. To do this on a Windows 7 (or earlier) PC, you’ll need to enter the BIOS and change the boot order. How to access the BIOS of your computer will vary depending on the manufacturer. However, most of the time you can access the BIOS by repeatedly pressing ESC, F2, F10 or F12 immediately after you power on the PC. (Note: these are commonly used keys; however, your computer may use an entirely different key. Consult your PC’s documentation for more information)
Once you have accessed your PC’s BIOS, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to find the BOOT menu. Here you can change the order of the available boot devices. Finally, simply move the USB to be first in the boot order. (Note: not all BIOS screens will look the same, so make your selections carefully). Finally, save your changes and exit the BIOS. Your PC should now boot from the Recalbox USB.
How to Run Recalbox on your Windows 10 PCUnfortunately, accessing the BIOS on a Windows 10 machine requires a few more steps. Thankfully, it’s a straightforward process. To access the BIOS in Windows 10, fire up your PC and let it boot normally. Once you are presented with the Windows 10 desktop environment, follow the steps outlined below:
3. On the next screen select “Recovery” from the left column.
The PC will restart and boot into the BIOS. Simply follow the steps outlined above to boot from the Recalbox USB. Once you’ve booted into Recalbox, you will be prompted to configure your controller. Simply map your buttons, and you’re ready to start playing games.
How to Add GamesAs you explore the Recalbox UI, you’ll notice that there are some preloaded freeware titles available to play. However, you’re probably going to want to add your own ROMs ASAP. This can be done a few different ways, including adding the ROMs to the installation USB. However, we are going to use a second USB flash drive (or hard drive), as it’s faster and easier to add more games as your ROM collection grows.
Once the PC has powered down, remove the second USB and plug it into another computer. You’ll notice that the USB has various folders for all of the different systems Recalbox can emulate. Simply drag and drop your ROMs to the corresponding folder. Once all of your games have transferred over, plug the USB back into your PC and turn it on. Allow Recalbox to boot up, and press Start to bring up the menu. Scroll down to “Game Settings,” and select “Update Games List.” Recalbox will then move the games you added into the UI. Once your games appear in the list, they’re ready to play. Simply select one, launch it and get your thumbs ready!
How to Scrape for MetadataRecalbox has a great user interface that looks fantastic, but there is a way to make it look even better. Recalbox has a built-in feature that allows you to scrape your games from metadata and box art. To do so, your PC has to be connected to the Internet. This can be done either by Ethernet or Wi-Fi. To set up your connection within Recalbox, hit Start to bring up the Main Menu, and scroll down to “Network Settings.” Here you can check your connection, and if need be, manually input your SSID and password. Once you’re connected, you’re ready to start scraping your games.
If you add more games intermittently, go for Manual. This will allow you to select which systems you’ve added new games to, which will significantly shorten the time it takes to scrape your games, as Recalbox doesn’t need to scan every single title. Regardless of which option you choose, be patient. Scraping your games can take a long time, depending on how large your game collection is.
