Suggested March 2024 How To Reset Windows 11: Everything You Need To Know

Resetting has always been a saving grace when Windows runs into issues, be it BSODs or driver conflicts. Resetting Windows can help you start from scratch while returning you to your factory settings and the original program installs if you like. Resetting your PC on Windows 11 is quite easy out of the box but errors you face can often make it difficult for you to access your desktop. If you are facing such issues then you can always try resetting the OS using the CMD guide below and start from scratch again. You can even choose to keep your data or delete it altogether. Use the guide below to easily reset your PC depending on your current requirements.

Reset your PC from Settings

Use the guide below to reset your PC from the Settings app on your PC. However, if your desktop is currently inaccessible due to BSODs or more, you can use the guide below to reset your PC from a USB/ISO.

Press ‘Windows + I’ on your keyboard to open the Settings app. Now tap and select ‘Update & Security’ at the bottom.

You can now choose one of the following options depending on your current needs.

Keep my files: All installed third-party apps and services will be removed however personal files will be retained on your hard drive.

Remove everything: This will remove all apps services, files, personal files, and more from your system.

Once chosen, use one of the options below to reset your PC.

Cloud Download: Windows will download and install the latest version of its OS on your system. You will need a network connection for this option.

Local Reinstall: Windows will use recovery files on your Recovery partition to reinstall your OS and return you to your default factory settings.

The Reset process will now begin and your PC might restart on its own a few times during this process. We recommend leaving this alone until you are taken to the Windows 11 OOBE again.

Use an ISO to reset your pc

If you are facing corrupted file issues or BSODs then chances are that you aren’t able to even get to your desktop. Fear not, in such cases you can use a Windows 10 or 11 ISO and reset your PC from a USB drive. You will, however, need to create a bootable USB first before you can Reset your PC using this method. Follow the guide below to get you started.

Create a bootable drive

You will need third-party software to create a bootable drive. We will be using Rufus for this guide which can be downloaded using the link below. Follow the guide to create a bootable USB from your Windows 11 ISO.

Rufus will now begin to create your bootable USB. Once the process completes, you can close the program and eject the USB from your system as you normally would.

Reset your PC

Plugin the bootable USB we just created into your system and turn it on. In case it is turned on, restart your system. Press any key when prompted to enter the Windows setup once your USB is detected.

Select ‘Troubleshoot’.

Select your bootable USB drive from this list and follow the on-screen instructions to reset your PC.

Factory reset from CMD

If for some reason you are unable to get to the desktop or access your drive, then you can use CMD to directly reset your PC instead. Use the guide below to reset your PC using the desired CMD method.

Trigger reset window from CMD

You can trigger the traditional Windows 11 Reset dialog box from CMD in case everything works on your Windows system. You can then use your dialog box and the guide at the top to easily reset your PC. Use the guide below to get you started.

Once the command window opens up, type in the command below and hit ‘Enter’ on your keyboard.

systemreset -factoryreset

And that’s it! You should now find the traditional reset window on your screen and you can use the on-screen instructions or the guide at the top to reset your PC now.

Use CMD to completely reset your system

If you can not launch Windows 11 or get to your desktop, then you can use the guide below to launch CMD from your recovery disk and then reset your PC. Follow the guide below to get started.

Boot from your recovery device in your system. Once at the install screen, press ‘Shift+F10’ on your keyboard to bring up CMD.

You will likely be in the ‘X:’ directory as you are booting from a recovery drive. Type in the following command to switch to your boot drive.

Now type in the command below to reset your system.

You can now follow the on-screen instructions to reset your system.

How to factory reset Windows 11 without losing data

You can easily factory reset Windows 11 without losing data as long as you can bring up the Reset dialog box. You can use any one of the guides above to reset your PC normally and simply choose ‘Keep my files’ during the start. This will prompt Windows 11 to leave your personal files and data alone while resetting your PC. Your custom settings will also be restored, once the Reset process has been completed. Please keep in mind that no third-party apps will be saved this way. However, Windows 11 will provide you with a list of all the removed apps and programs once the Reset is completed, on your desktop.

How to factory reset Windows 11 without installation media

If you do not have any installation media, then you can use our first two guides to easily reset your PC. However, if you are facing BSODs then we recommend you try booting your PC in Safe mode. You can then reset your PC from the safe mode by either using the Settings app or by using the CMD. However, if for some reason, you are unable to access the safe mode as well, then we recommend using CMD in the Troubleshoot windows section to reset your PC. Lastly, if that too seems to fail for you then it likely means that your installation is seriously corrupted. In such cases, you will need external installation media and sadly there’s no other workaround that you can use in this case.

How to factory reset Windows 11 without a password

Sadly, if you’ve forgotten your password then you will have to get rid of your data as well when resetting your PC. Windows data is encrypted through your user account passwords and we would highly recommend that you try and recover your password before deleting all your data. However, if you are unable to recover your data then please select ‘Remove everything’ when resetting your PC to delete all files and start over again. If you had signed in with a Microsoft account and not a local account then you can easily reset your password. However, if you had a local account, then it is going to be slightly tough to recover your account.

How to factory reset Windows 11 from boot

You can easily factory reset Windows 11 from the boot menu by using a bootable Windows drive. Ideally, this should be a Windows 11 recovery media but a Windows 10 media disk would also work and should help you reset your PC. Once booted to the installation screen, press ‘Shift + F10’ on your keyboard to launch the CMD window. You can then type in ‘C:’ to switch to your boot drive. Once you have switched to your C: drive, you can use the CMD guide above to easily trigger a reset for your PC.

How to format Windows 11

This is an old terminology that usually refers to a fresh install of Windows. You can only format drives in the computer world hence if you format your boot drive then you will have to completely reinstall Windows 11 on your PC again. Many OEMs create necessary partitions on the boot drive that store important data for your system including its serial number, warranty info, Windows license, and much more. A recovery partition also usually exists on the boot drive that helps you reset Windows easily and install factory drivers and more in case of a corrupted install in the future.  More importantly, these partitions also contain the necessary drivers for an OOBE on your system without an OS. Hence formatting your boot drive is usually a bad idea unless you know what you are doing. If you still insist on formatting your boot drive, then you can easily do so using any recovery media in your possession. We would recommend using a bootable USB with the Windows 11 ISO. Follow the guide below to get you started.

Plugin your recovery media into your system and power it on. Press any key when prompted to boot from your recovery media.

Note: If your recovery media does not show up during the boot process then you might need to change your boot priority in the BIOS menu.

Once you are at the install screen, select your language and input format and press ‘Next’ once done.

Once you are at the next page, press ‘Shift + F10‘ on your keyboard.

Now type in the following command and press ‘Enter’.

Next, type the following command and press ‘Enter’.

List Disk

You will now get a list of all the disks currently available on your system. Note down the name of your boot drive from this list.

Now type in the following command. Replace ‘X’ with the disk number of your boot drive

Select Disk X

The disk will now be selected, you can now delete everything on it using the following command.

The drive will now be completely wiped and you will need to set it up again. Type in the command below to convert your disk to Gpt.

Convert GPT

And that’s it! You have now formatted your drive. You can now go back to the installation process and create a completely new volume for your new boot drive.

Difference between Reset, Refresh & Format

There are quite a few differences between resetting your PC, refreshing your PC, and formatting your PC altogether. You might be confused between these terms if this is your first time resetting or refreshing your Windows 11. You can use the guide below to easily get familiar with these three terms.

Reset: Resetting your PC refers to restoring your PC to its original state when it first came out of the factory, with all the intended software that was first installed on your PC. When resetting your PC, you get the option to save your personal files or remove them completely.

Refresh: Refresh is a term that was introduced in Windows 8 and later incorporated into the Reset option itself. Now the Refresh option exists as a variant of the Reset option. If you decide to keep your personal files when resetting your PC then you are essentially refreshing your PC. Your personal files, factory apps, and your Microsoft store apps will be retained while removing and refreshing everything else.

Format: Format is a term incorrectly used when referring to a clean Windows reinstall. Format refers to completely formatting your boot drive and then starting from scratch to install a fresh copy of Windows.

Should I reset a laptop?

Yes, you can easily reset your laptop using one of the options above. Resetting your PC is mostly risk-free and should be done in no time if you do everything correctly. Laptops come with a dedicated recovery drive that restores your device to its factory settings and reinstalls all system apps and drivers. Hence do not be afraid, you can easily reset your Windows 11 on your laptop using any of the methods above. You needn’t worry about your Windows license as well, as the reinstallation of Windows 11 will be automatically activated on your laptop using the bundled license at the time of your purchase.

Should I format a laptop?

If you know what you are doing then sure, but for most users, we wouldn’t recommend this. Laptop drivers are hard to source and in many cases, you are solely relying on the OEM for proper drivers. If you end up formatting your drive you will lose your recovery partition as well which means you will need to source your drivers externally every time you reset or reinstall Windows. If you have an old system then you should be extremely careful as after a few years the support site for many laptops is taken down with only a few basic drivers left up on the site to work.

Xiaomi Mi 11 Series Buyer’S Guide: Everything You Need To Know

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 in China in late December 2023, marking the first arrival of a Snapdragon 888-powered phone. We had to wait for a wider release, but the Chinese brand finally brought the series to global markets in January, with the Mi 11 Ultra following in March. The phones pack plenty of premium features you might not even see on rival flagship phones, although that’s not to say the phones don’t have room for improvement.

Scroll down to find out everything we know about the Xiaomi Mi 11 series, from specs and price to availability and more. We’ll also be updating the article as new information surfaces. You should also be aware that the Xiaomi 12 series is now available. We’ve packed everything you need to know about the phone into a buyer’s guide, which you can find here.

Xiaomi has created a compelling phone in the Mi 11. It has the right price and the right specs to compete with the current crop of flagships in the market.

Is the Mi 11 series worth buying?

Luke Pollack / Android Authority

Xiaomi’s Mi series is usually positioned as the device of choice for those who want a flagship experience but don’t want to pay $1,000 or more. At €749, the vanilla Mi 11 is essentially undercutting the Galaxy S21 (€850 in Europe) and matching the S20 FE, but playing in that same broad affordable flagship category.

In other words, those expecting your typical affordable Xiaomi flagship like the Mi 10T series might be disappointed. Still, those who liked the idea of a sub-$1,000 flagship but want some premium extras might be happy here. The Mi 11 also earned a “recommended” award from us, and you can find out why below.

Meanwhile, the Mi 11 Ultra is the company’s first proper stab at a premium flagship, bringing all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a full-blown high-end phone. So if you were looking at the Galaxy S21 Ultra, iPhone 13 Pro Max, or OnePlus 9 Pro, you might want to consider this one too.

What other reviewers from around the web think

GSMArena reckoned the standard Mi 11 “has everything to quickly become a bestseller.” The team liked the phone’s design, saying it was attractive with premium build quality. They also noted that the Xiaomi device packed the “best” screen and a charger that was “blazing fast.” It wasn’t all good, though, as they criticized the lack of a telephoto camera, lack of an official IP rating, and the movie effects, which were “nothing special.”

Sam Byford of The Verge “strongly recommended” the vanilla Mi 11 if you live in a market where it’s available. But he stopped short of saying it was so great you should import it if you’re in the US. He praised the performance, display, battery life, and MIUI 12. Sam felt that the camera category was the main area where the phone fell short of big-name rivals, lamenting image quality in mixed lighting and the lack of a telephoto camera.

Andrei Frumusanu of Anandtech felt that the Ultra device was overpriced, especially in comparison to the vanilla Mi 11. He also felt that battery life was the phone’s main weakness despite a 5,000mAh battery. Andrei also pointed to the S21 Ultra, saying it was cheaper than the Xiaomi device and offered a better experience in a few areas. Nevertheless, he noted that he still liked the phone but that Xiaomi needs to refine it and address its weaknesses.

CNET‘s Sareena Dayaram said Xiaomi’s standard flagship phone was easy to recommend, pointing to the price, speed, display, speakers, and reliable cameras. Sareena noted a few downsides, such as the missing telephoto camera, the lack of easy US availability, and no IP rating.

Adam Conway of XDA-Developers noted the high price of the Mi 11 Ultra but still felt that it was worth buying. He praised the design, haptics, display, and performance, but lamented the unpolished software. He also took umbrage with the cameras, saying they were pretty good but overhyped.

We ran a poll shortly after the Mi 11 was unveiled for the first time, and you cast nearly 2,500 votes. Here’s how you voted.

Xiaomi Mi 11 series specs

How good are the cameras?

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

The Mi 11 packs a triple rear camera setup, featuring a 108MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide snapper, and a 5MP telephoto macro lens. Our own Eric Zeman felt that image quality, in general, was good but not threatening the likes of Apple and Samsung.

Our own Eric Zeman and Dhruv Bhutani both reviewed the Mi 11 Ultra, and Eric found that the main camera was “mostly” great but delivered very oversaturated yellow hues. Eric also felt that night mode on the Ultra device made for unnaturally bright shots.

On the other hand, Dhruv said the phone’s main camera captured “stunning” images and beautiful depth-of-field effects. He also praised the ultrawide camera and noted that periscope shots looked good until about 10X.

Design: The new phone features a frosted glass back compared to the standard glass back on last year’s phone. But the big change is the camera housing, which adopts a circular design compared to the vertical housing seen on the Mi 10.

Display: The Mi 11 not only delivers a higher refresh rate (120Hz vs 90Hz) but also ups the resolution (QHD+ vs FHD+).

Cameras: Xiaomi’s latest device packs a triple camera rather than the Mi 10’s quad-camera system. You’re still looking at the same main and ultrawide cameras (108MP and 13MP respectively), but the Mi 11 ditches the old phone’s 2MP depth sensor. Furthermore, the macro lens has been upgraded from 2MP on the Mi 10 to a 5MP telephoto macro on the new one.

Battery: You’re actually getting a slightly smaller battery this year, with the Mi 11 offering a 4,600mAh pack versus the Mi 10’s 4,780mAh battery. We get a charging boost across the board though, as the Mi 11 delivers 55W wired, 50W wireless, and 10W reverse wireless charging. The Mi 10 has 30W wired, 30W wireless, and 5W reverse wireless top-ups.

Aside from the chipset, the Mi 11 Ultra also features a few changes compared to the China-only Mi 10 Ultra released in the second half of 2023. Check them out below.

Design: The Mi 11 Ultra sports an IP68 design for the first time, which means it should survive a dunk in the pool or bath compared to the older Ultra.

Display: Xiaomi’s latest Ultra phone features a secondary rear screen for selfies and notifications. But the main display is also a WQHD+ panel versus FHD+ on the Mi 10 Ultra.

Cameras: It’s mostly a case of upgrades here, with a better main camera sensor in theory (50MP vs 48MP) and a much sharper ultrawide sensor on paper (48MP versus 20MP). But the Mi 10 Ultra features two zoom-focused cameras in a 48MP 5X periscope lens (seen on the Mi 11 Ultra) and a 12MP 2X telephoto camera. This suggests that the Mi 10 Ultra could still be better for short-range zoom.

Battery: Xiaomi’s latest phone sports a 5,000mAh battery, 67W wired charging, and 67W wireless topups. By contrast, the Mi 10 Ultra brings a 4,500mAh battery, 120W wired charging, and 50W wireless topups. So we’re expecting wired charging times to be a little slower on the new phone (but still great), given the bigger battery and reduced wattage.

Xiaomi launched the Mi 11 Pro in addition to the Mi 11 Ultra, but the Pro model is restricted to China. It offers a QHD+ 120Hz OLED screen and flagship silicon too. In fact, it’s closer to the Mi 11 Ultra than the base Mi 11.

The Mi 11 Pro also packs an IP68 rating, a 5,000mAh battery, and 67W wired and 67W wireless charging. Expect the same 50MP GN2 main camera as seen on the Mi 11 Ultra, but we see a 13MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP 5X periscope camera instead. You can find out more about the Mi 11 Pro in our announcement post.

The base Mi 11 is clearly more expensive in Europe than it is in China, as we saw with previous releases. But Xiaomi also says they’ll also offer a two year warranty and a one-time free screen repair within the first year of owning the phone in Europe. Unfortunately, Xiaomi doesn’t offer phones in the US and we doubt that will change soon given the country’s relations with China right now.

Everything You Need To Know About Assortment Planning

The biggest challenge for retailers is to identify the products their customers will buy. The other problem is estimating the stock level. These two high stock levels can lead to excess inventory, which could cause capital to be bloated and force you into a position where the profit margin is at risk. But, not getting enough means you are missing sales opportunities.

A report by analysis found that the combined loss of out-of-stocks and overstocks was $1.1 trillion in 2024. This was a staggering amount of money, and it is estimated that this figure represents approximately. 7.5% of the total retail economy.

A term assortment planning can help retailers turn these losses to profit. Assortment planning involves choosing the right products and placing the correct quantities in inventory.

Bethesda E3 Roundup: Everything You Need To Know

Bethesda E3 Roundup: Everything you need to know

It’s E3 again, so naturally there is a ton of gaming news to sift through. Gamers, of course, have their favorites and loyalties, and suffice it to say, many of them were not disappointed this year. Take for example, Bethesda, who nearly had a dozen title to talk about for E3 this year. Those, however, aren’t just new titles designed to bait in new, unsuspecting buyers. The game publisher also has a few treats and surprises to tempt fans of existing franchises to buckle up and gear up for another journey into their beloved fictional worlds.

Fallout 4 is practically a year old, which is quite old for a game. It hasn’t grown stale, however, thanks to the ingenuity of the community that keeps on churning user-created content. In order to give players even more tools to create their dream death traps, Bethesda will be launching three add-ons in the coming months. Following the previous Automatron add-on, the new Contraptions DLC will give more things for players to build. These range from simple armor racks to fireworks to complicated elevators. In case you prefer to build people rather than things, the new Vault-Tec might be more your thing. As the name so clearly says, you can create Vaults that attract new Dwellers. And, of course, you can perform experiments on them. Legally? Perhaps. Morally? You’re the Overseer, so you decide. And in case you prefer destroying things over building, a trip to the amusement park turned scavenger land of Nuka-World will probably tickle your fancy. Contraptions launches next week, June 21, while Vault-Tec rolls out in July. Nuka-World, on the other hand, won’t land until August.

When Bethesda was gearing up for the Fallout 4 launch, it also dropped Fallout Shelter, which let players enjoy the post-apocalyptic world on their mobile devices but in a totally different flavor. With Update 1.6 coming in July, the game will offer more ways or you to control enjoy your Dwellers. Fallout Shelter will then feature an all-new Quest system which Dwellers can take outside of the safety of the Vault. But perhaps even more exciting news for Fallout fans, Shelter will be coming to PCs as well. So that’s a two for one deal when Update 1.6 hits next month.

Another existing franchise that’s getting a revisit is Skyrim, the fifth and so far last major (offline) installment in The Elder Scrolls universe. Although no new major content is coming to this five year old game, Skyrim Special Edition still brings a few goodies to the table, like remastered assets and “volumetric god effects”. For console gamers, the Special Edition brings many of the PC mods to the game, like new quests, characters, dialogs, and more. For PC gamers who already bought game plus all three add-ons (Dawnguard, Hellfire, Dragonborn), the Special Edition brings the gift of free. That is, Skyrim Special Edition will be a free upgrade for them. The Special Edition launches October 28 this year on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the PC.

Bethesda, of course, has new stuff as well, though they all give a nod to the past, too. Dishonored, the surprise assassination slash magic action game, is getting a sequel. Simply called Dishonored 2, the game brings the player on a field trip outside the famed city of Dunwall to a completely new setting of Karnaca. That’s not the only new thing either. Corvo is now joined by daughter Emily and players can choose to play either. While players of the first game will be familiar with the older Attano’s powers, Emily Kaldwin won’t be playing second fiddle, especially with some time-bending powers in her arsenal. Dishonored 2 will arrive on November 11, available on the PS4, Xbox One, and the PC.

Like any good new major title, Dishonored 2 will also come with a collector’s edition that includes replicas of Corvo’s Mask and Emily’s Ring, all for $99.99.

Although just a month old, DOOM, the rebirth of the iconic FPS title, is already getting some updates. And fortunately most of them are free. For example, the SnapMap creation tool will be enjoying new constructions modules, logic options, and content. Multiplayer, on the other hand, will be receiving a one-flag CTF mode called Exodus and a capture-and-hold mode named Sector. Speaking of free, DOOM will have a special free demo version like in the days of old. And like in those days, the demo is time-limited, only while E3 lasts. Not so free is the upcoming Unto the Evil multiplayer DLC coming net month.

A somewhat unexpected surprise is the new Prey sci-fi first person action game, carrying on the title of the same name. Just like DOOM, Prey, which isn’t spelled PREY, is a reimagining of the popular game that had an unpopular sequel. Starting from a clean slate, Prey turns back the clock to 2032, where you wake up in a space station and plunged into a fight for survival against, what else, aliens. Luckily for you, you happen to have “mind-bending abilities” along with weapons and wits to help keep you alive. No exact date for Prey yet aside from sometime in 2023.

And those are just the major highlights of Bethesda’s big reveal at E3 2024. We mustn’t fail to mention Quake’s return to mainstream with Quake Champions multiplayer arena. And then there’s the Elder Scrolls: Legends, the card battle game that is not only getting a story-based campaign mode, it is also coming to the Mac, iOS, and Android. Suffice it to say, gamers, particularly fans of Bethesda’s titles, will have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Which also means they have a lot to save up for as well.

The Email Security Features of Mimecast for Outlook

Mimecast is good against the following vulnerabilities of any email client, including Outlook:

1. High-Tech Business or Personal Email Compromises

Hackers use phishing and other social engineering tactics to compromise your personal and business emails. To defeat such attacks and always keep you vigilant about email hacks, Mimecast deploys AI-based anomaly detection and behavior analysis to spot bad actors and malicious apps hidden in an email.

2. Credential Harvesting

It isolates browser-based email client apps from normal browsing activities. Such tactics help prevent smart hackers from copying your email credentials by manipulating web browser security loopholes.

3. Detecting and Destroying Phishing Emails

Also, it helps you deploy strict business email policies for on-site and remote employees so that the workforce becomes more cautious about reporting phishing emails.

4. Supply Chain Attack

Hackers can take your business executives to a fraudulent website resembling your company’s website. Then, the executives punch in their credentials, and the hackers steal those instantly. Mimecast for Outlook uses a range of cybersecurity concepts like the following to protect your company from such serious data breaches:

Domain monitoring

Enforcing Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance in short DMARC

Business policies to prevent supply chain and brand emails and mail servers

Use AI intelligence against webpage impersonation

5. Attachments With Malicious Intent

The Mimecast plugin for Outlook has an array of cybersecurity systems to protect your Outlook-based email activities from malicious attachments. First, it uses its elaborate informative content on email hack protection among users. It also creates threat drills and simulations to check the readiness level of you and your team to stop malicious attachments.

6. Non-Compliant Behaviour Handling

Mimecast for Outlook always keeps an eye on anyone using the Outlook or web app for emailing from a business account. If it notices any anomaly in the email-sending behavior of any team member, it automatically stops the email from reaching the destination.

It also sends a notification to your or other stakeholders so that such actions can be prevented in the future.

How to Use Mimecast for Outlook for Email Security

Here are some essential functions that you must learn to become a power user of the Mimecast plugin for Outlook:

1. Blocking Senders

Then, the plugin will show you two options: Sender’s Address and Sender’s Domain. Take a decision here depending on the value of the sender’s domain for your business and block the option you prefer.

2. Reporting Phishing or Spam

If you’ve identified any incoming email as spam or phishing email, try these steps on the Mimecast ribbon menu:

You’ll see two choices: Report Spam and Report Phishing. Choose the one that suits the scenario you’re reporting.

Mimecast for Outlook app will move the email to the Microsoft Outlook Junk E-Mail folder. The email address will also be automatically added to the Blocked Senders list of Outlook. Moreover, Mimecast Security Team will also get a copy of the email to analyze the threat and prevent similar hacking attempts in the future.

3. Send a Secure Message

Protecting confidential designs, trade secrets, wireframe drafts, and other intellectual property is highly necessary for business and professional fields. However, there comes a time when you must send confidential information via email to external contacts outside your email domain.

In such situations, use Mimecast for Outlook’s Send a Secure Message feature. It doesn’t expose confidential content by sending it to the email server of the external collaborator. Instead, Mimecast deploys the email in the Mimecast Secure Messaging Portal.

Then, it sends a notification to the external collaborator that the email is waiting for viewing. Hence, no one can trace it back to any third-party email servers to extract data from your confidential business file.

To use this next-generation email security feature, create your email as you usually would on Outlook.

4. Document Conversion

This feature lets you directly convert email attachments and other documents to a preferred file format on Outlook using Mimecast.

Office Docs – Convert to PDF

Office Docs – Strip all Metadata

In the same menu, you also get the Strip and Link Attachments option to sanitize incoming emails before forwarding that to someone else who doesn’t need the email attachment except the email text.

Now you know what the Mimecast plugin for Outlook is. You’ve also learned how to download Mimecast for Outlook and use it to secure email from hacking attempts.

Mediatek Dimensity 9200: Everything You Need To Know

It’s a second-gen 4nm chip powered by the latest generation of Armv9 architecture, including ray-racing from the Immortalis-G715 GPU, along with next-gen features like support for 240Hz displays and Wi-Fi 7. With integrated mmWave 5G, it’s also the first Dimensity flagship that’s positioned to break into the US market – though that’ll still take some doing.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Dimensity 9200.

When will the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 appear in phones?

MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9200 on 8 November, but it will take a little longer for it to appear in actual phones.

The company’s VP of corporate marketing, Finbarr Moynihan, said that the first hardware announcements should be made “imminently,” and in a press release the company promises that “Smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9200 will be available in the market by end of 2023.” So there won’t be too long to wait.

Which phones will feature the MediaTek Dimensity 9200?

So far, we’ve seen rumours of two main smartphone ranges that are expected to launch with the Dimensity 9200 inside.

Dominic Preston Foundry

The first is the Vivo X90 series. Vivo’s senior vice president and CTO Shi Yujian appeared in a pre-recorded video at MediaTek’s executive summit shortly after the 9200 announcement to confirm that Vivo will “launch the first smartphones powered by Dimensity 9200.”

This will most likely be in the Vivo X90 range, expected to launch in China soon. Most leakers expect Vivo to use both MediaTek and Qualcomm chips across the three phones we think we’ll see announced, with the standard Vivo X90 most likely to feature the Dimensity silicon.

Joining this could be the Oppo Find X6, expected to appear around March 2023. While some rumours have suggested it will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, Oppo has a history with MediaTek. The company’s Find X5 Pro was one of the first to sport a Dimensity 9000, albeit only in China, so seeing the new chipset in the upcoming flagship Oppo device would make a lot of sense.

The big question is whether MediaTek can build on the sales of the 9000, which didn’t appear in too many flagships and struggled to break out of the Chinese market. Moynihan is confident, saying the chip should be more “broadly available” worldwide than last year’s, though with one big caveat: even he admits that it “may take some time” for Dimensity flagships to go on sale in the US.

Eric Fisher, MediaTek’s vice president and general manager of corporate sales, told Tech Advisor that we’ll see Dimensity 9200 flagship phones go on sale in Europe in 2023, but was less confident about the US market, warning that the company’s debut there was more likely to come in 2024 or 2025.

What are the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 specs?

Like the Dimensity 9000 before it, the 9200 is built on a 4nm processing node by TSMC, with chips based on Armv9 architecture. It uses the updated version of Armv9 though, including the Cortex-X3 CPU core and Immortalis-G715 GPU.

Dominic Preston Foundry

Let’s start with the CPU. It uses a standard 1+3+4 design, with the X3 running as the prime core at a clock speed of 3.05GHz. It’s joined by a trio of Cortex-A715 performance cores at 2.85GHz and four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores at 1.8GHz.

How does that compare to last year’s chip? MediaTek says it’s seen 12% improvement in single-core performance and 10% in multi-core on the Geekbench 5 benchmark. There are efficiency benefits too though, with a 25% reduction in power consumption – which should help battery life and heat management.

Throw in support for LPDDR5X RAM and new UFS 4.0 storage, and 9200 phones should be pretty nippy compared to current hardware.

Then there’s the GPU. While rival Qualcomm designs its own Mali GPU systems, MediaTek has decided to instead use the Arm Immortalis-G715, the company’s first GPU to include hardware acceleration for ray tracing. Ray tracing support is still rolling out slowly in mobile games, but where supported it will fairly drastically improve how light, shadow, and reflections are rendered in games.

Ray tracing aside, the G715 delivers plenty of performance boosts, with MediaTek claiming it can hit 32% higher performance than the Dimensity 9000 at the same power consumption.

MediaTek hasn’t yet shared many concrete benchmark results, but one is a doozy: it says the 9200 picked up an AnTuTu benchmark score of over 1.26 million points – 1,265,328, to be precise. That’s a record for the benchmark, and well up on the previous 1.12 million best scored by a Dimensity 9000+ phone.

Meanwhile on Geekbench 5.1.0 the company says it’s hit a single-core score of 1,424, with multi-core at 4,471. That’s higher than any score we at Tech Advisor have recorded for an Android phone – our current record is 4,282 for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered Xiaomi 12S Ultra – though still lags behind the latest iPhone performance.

With such early hardware these numbers don’t mean too much yet anyway, but should only be taken as rough indicators: in this case that the Dimensity 9200 should have plenty of power to compete with its big rivals.

What about the rest of the chip? Networking is one of the obvious highlights, with support for the latest Bluetooth 5.3 standard including low energy audio, which helps with battery life, and high fidelity audio for lossless quality.

Arguably more exciting is that the 9200 is “Wi-Fi 7 ready,” but I wouldn’t get too excited about that. The Wi-Fi 7 standard hasn’t even been finalised yet, and the first routers and other hardware featuring the tech are a year off or more. But hey, your Wi-Fi might be a little faster a few years from now with a 9200 phone.

Then there’s 5G. This is MediaTek’s first flagship chip to include integrated Sub-6 and mmWave 5G. That matters because mmWave support is all-but required by most US carriers, so including it here opens the door for the 9200 to appear in phones destined for the US market – something that the 9000 never managed.

“Adding the mmWave capability was driven a lot by the requirements of the American market,” admits Hu, so it’s clear that the company has the US in its sights, even if it doesn’t expect to break through next year.

The 9200 also opens the door to the next generation of phone displays. It’s capable of supporting 240Hz refresh rates for Full HD+ displays, a decent jump up from the 165Hz that’s currently the fastest on the market. It can drive 144Hz refresh rates on WQHD+ displays too, which opens the door to higher resolution gaming phones, while at 60Hz it can handle enormous 5K resolutions.

The other big upgrade is the Imagiq 890 ISP, which includes native support for RGBW camera sensors along with AI features that allow the ISP itself to do things like pick out the subject of a photo and separate the sky from the sea in order to optimise each element individually in post-processing.
