Suggested March 2024 How To Recover Or Reset A Bios Or Uefi Password For Windows Computers

If you have used Windows for a long time, I am sure you are aware of BIOS or UEFI password. This password lock makes sure that you need to enter the set password even before the Windows computer boots up. However, the biggest problem with BIOS or UEFI Password is there is no recovery option like a Microsoft account. In this guide, we will share how you can recover or set a BIOS or UEFI Password for Windows computers.

BIOS or UEFI passwords are stored at the hardware level. So unless the OEM wants or has configured a way out to recover the password, it is impossible to reset it. Sometimes they are so strict, that the only way to get through is by calling customer care. Do remember any Windows computer with this lock, cannot be unlocked by trying to reinstall Windows.

Recover or reset a BIOS or UEFI Password

If you wish to recover, reset, or set a lost or forgotten BIOS or UEFI password in Windows10, you have the following options:

Temporarily remove CMOS battery

Clear Unknown BIOS/UEFI passwords using the bios-pw website

Call Customer Care.

1] Temporarily remove CMOS battery

Every motherboard comes with CMOS battery. This helps the system to keep the clock ticking, make sure the BIOS settings are not lost when the computer is powered down. So when the computer turns on, the CMOS battery makes sure the information is available for the computer to boot up.

That said, if you temporarily remove CMOS battery for around 30 seconds or a minute, the settings are lost. Some motherboards are built such that removing the battery for long, resets everything. This includes the password for the BIOS / UEFI.

2] Clear Unknown BIOS/UEFI passwords using bios-pw website

If the above step doesn’t work, you can use this BIOS Password website to clear it. Follow these steps:

Enter the wrong password multiple times when prompted by the BIOS. This will lock you out of the system.

Post this, a new number or code on the screen. This will include a message about System Disabled [AAAAA] Service TAG [BBBBB]

Open the BIOS password website, and enter the XXXXX code in it. Make sure to hit Shift+ Enter instead of just enter.

It will then offer multiple unlock keys, which you can try to clear out the BIOS / UEFI lock on your Windows computer.

3] Call Customer care

If none of the methods work for you, it is best to call customer care and take their suggestions. They might help you over the call using the Service Tag or might suggest you visit a Service center and get this resolved.

TIP: PC CMOS Cleaner and CmosPwd are two tools that can help you recover or reset forgotten BIOS passwords.

Set a BIOS or UEFI Password

Setting up a password on BIOS or UEFI is not recommended, but if you have made up your mind, here is how you can do it. That said, BIOS or UEFI interface varies from OEM to OEM. So look for something related to SECURITY or PASSWORD.  You will have options similar to

Supervisor password: It is like a master password to change important settings.

User password: Using this, anybody can change minor settings.

Master password for the hard drive or a general password.

Some OEMs offer micro-control where you will need to enter the BIOS password. For example, you may get the option to skip for a normal restart or when selecting a boot device – while you may have to enter it for unattended reboots or when the computer is powered on, and so on.

If you are here to remove the password, look for a remove password option in the same section. You will get a prompt where you can enter the set password once. If it’s correct, it will remove the BIOS password.

Once you are done, make sure to save and exit the BIOS. Reboot the computer and see if the settings have applied properly.

Lastly, be very careful with BIOS /UEFI locks. It’s better to use a Microsoft account to lock the computer instead of this.

What special key gets you into BIOS?

Computers of different brands have different keys to enter into BIOS. Usually, these keys are F1, F2, F10, F12, or DEL keys. Refer to your system’s manual to know which key is assigned to your system to enter BIOS or contact support.

How do I manually reset BIOS to default?

If your system BIOS gets corrupted, you can reset it. Resetting the BIOS restores all the settings to the default. BIOS corruption occurs due to several causes, like malware infection, power surge, etc. Computers of some bands, like HP, have a specific key combination to reset BIOS. Refer to your system manual or contact support. If your computer does not have a key combination, you have to enter BIOS settings to reset it.

That’s it!

How To Enable Or Disable Access Point Isolation On Windows Computers

If you want to enable or disable Access Point Isolation, Client Isolation, or Station Isolation on Windows 11/10 computers, here is how you can do that. It is a security feature that comes with various modern-day Wi-Fi routers. This guide explains AP Isolation and teaches you how you can turn it on or off.

What is Access Point Isolation?

If two devices are connected to a Wi-Fi network, they can communicate with each other by changing a few settings. It is possible because they are using the same SSID or network name. If you turn on Access Point Isolation or Client Isolation, it will start creating a virtual SSID for each device you connect to your Wi-Fi network.

The host router will be the same, but SSID will be virtual. That being said, it won’t be possible for one device to communicate with others even after using the same router. It is very handy when you do not want any device to establish a connection with another device in your office or any other public place.

AP Isolation is pretty similar to Guest mode or Guest network, which is available in almost all the routers. However, there is a thin line between these two security features. AP Isolation or Client Isolation is mainly used in the LAN, public places, etc. However, the other one is mainly intended for guests or so to whom you want to give temporary access to your Wi-Fi router.

Some routers have the Access Point Isolation while some of them call it Client Isolation. It depends on the manufacturer, firmware version, etc. However, they all are the same. Having said that, we have shown screenshots with Client Isolation on a TP-link router. Nonetheless, you can follow the same guide for your router to find the AP Isolation as well.

Enable or Disable Access Point Isolation on Router

To enable or disable Access Point Isolation, follow these steps:

Log in to your router’s control panel.

Tick the Enable Client Isolation/AP Isolation checkbox.

To learn more about these steps, continue reading.

To get started, you need to log into your Wi-Fi router’s control panel. To do that, your computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, and you must know the username and password.

If you want to enable AP Isolation for both, you need to do that one after one. Here you can find an option called Enable Client Isolation.

As said earlier, you can find the AP Isolation or Station Isolation as well. It all depends on the router.

Should I enable or disable AP isolation?

AP Isolation is a security feature included in various Wi-Fi routers. As mentioned earlier, it prevents one device from communicating with other devices connected to the same network. If you want such a thing enabled for your network, you can turn on Access Point Isolation. However, if you are a home computer user and only your devices are connected to the network, enabling this feature won’t make much difference.

How do I disable AP isolation in Windows 11/10?

This is not a feature you can enable or disable on your Windows computer. It must be included in your Wi-Fi router. If so, you can follow the aforementioned guides to enable or disable AP Isolation or Client Isolation for your router.

That’s all! Hope this guide helped.

Fix Issues related to HTTP/Proxy

Before you begin, we recommend you to create a System Restore Point. Let’s now see all the method in details:

1] Run Windows Apps Troubleshooter

Windows 10 comes with a built-in troubleshooter tool that is considered quite ideal to deal with all sorts of Windows Store problems. Here is how to do:

Open the Windows Settings (Win+I) and select Update & Category.

Select the Troubleshoot tab in the left pane to open its contents on the right pane.

Now in the right pane, scroll down to the bottom of the screen.

Then select Windows Store Apps and hit Run the troubleshooter.

Wait for a while and once it completes the process, close the window.

In the end, reboot your device to apply the changes.

2] Run Windows Update Troubleshooter

On your Windows 10 PC, running Windows Update Troubleshooter is the one the best and simplest methods you can try out to resolve this issue.

Furthermore, you can also try Microsoft’s online troubleshooter and see if it helps.

3] Make sure the System date, time, and Time zone is correct

As a next workaround, open the system date, time, and Time zone and check if it is set correctly.

4] Run SFC scan and DISM tool

Running System File Checker tool possibly fixes many system errors including the Store having different network problems. Since this is a built-in application, it will cost you nothing except a simple effort.

To run this service, open an elevated Command Prompt in your Windows device.

In the command prompt window, input the below command-line and then hit enter –

sfc /scannow

This will take a few minutes to execute the command-line, therefore, wait patiently until the operation completes.

Furthermore, you may need to repair the Windows system files by running the DISM scan. Here is how to do it:

In the elevated Command Prompt window, type in the following text code:

Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth Dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Now hit Enter after each line to initiate the process.

Once it completes, reboot your device and check if the problem still exists.

5] Install all the pending updates on your device

If the problem is still persisting, install all the pending updates on your device.

If there is any update, install it.

In case you don’t find any single update and it shows your PC is up-to-date, it means the system has all the updates that are required.

6] Reset the Microsoft Store

Sometimes this type of problem can also occur due to having some temporary files stored in the cache folder. In order to fix it, you need to clear Windows Store Cache. Here is a quick guide to do:

In the right pane, locate Microsoft Store under the Apps and features section.

7] Re-install Windows Store app

In case none of these methods helped you to fix out this error code, then as a last resort try to re-install the Windows Store app.

To do so, press Win+S keyboard shortcut and type PowerShell in the search field.

Now in the Windows PowerShell window, copy and paste the given text code and then hit enter to execute:

Once it completes, close the Windows PowerShell window and reboot your device to save the changes.

After restarting Windows, problems with the Store error should be fixed now.

8] Fix Issues related to HTTP/Proxy

You may need to configure a proxy in WinHTTP by using the following netsh command:

You might choose to apply a rule to permit HTTP RANGE requests for the following URLs:

If you can’t allow RANGE requests, you’ll be downloading more content than needed in updates

Fix Error 0X8007042C For Windows Update Or Firewall

If you’re encountering the error code 0x8007042c when trying to install certain Windows Updates or after a failed upgrade to Windows 11/10 from an older Windows version, then this post is intended to help you. This error can also occur when the Windows Firewall fails to start.

Error code 0x8007042c indicates that Windows can no longer turn on the Firewall. The only way to detect this problem is by trying to start Windows Firewall. If it throws out the errorit means that your computer is no longer protected from untrusted networks.

Some users prefer to use other antivirus products rather than the security programs that come with the Windows operating system, and in the process automatically disable the firewall and Windows Defender. These users are the ones most likely to run into the above problem. Windows Firewall monitors the flow of data into and out of your computer. In Windows 10, most programs cannot install as long as the Windows Firewall is turned off. Windows updates will most definitely not install when the firewall is turned off.

If you receive error 0x8007042c when starting Windows Firewall or Windows Update on Windows 11/10, then a Service or Dependency may not be working. If you’re faced with this issue, you can try our recommended solutions presented below in the individual sections and in no particular order to resolve the issue.

Re-register the firewallapi.dll and see if that helps. Execute the following in an elevated CMD:

regsvr32 firewallapi.dll 3] Reset Windows Firewall

Reset Windows Firewall to default and see if that helps.

4] Disable/Uninstall 3rd party security software

Third-party AV suites are all known to cause this particular issue. In this case, to fix this issue, you’ll have to remove all third-party antivirus programs from your PC using the dedicated antivirus removal tool to remove all files associated with your antivirus program. The reason is, it’s much more efficient and invasive to use the custom uninstall tools for the AV program from the manufacturer, if available, whenever uninstalling antivirus software, as there are registries and dependencies, installed deep within the OS which the traditional Control Panel uninstaller (appwiz.cpl) might miss in most cases.

How To Resize A Video Or Change Resolution

There are a lot of reasons why you might need to resize a video and in this post I’m going to mention a couple of freeware app that will help you easily change the resolution of your videos. If you have one of those 1080p 60fps HD video cameras, you understand the need for some serious conversion. With the introduction of 4K camcorders on the market, you’ll need a beast of a PC along with a 4K monitor to even have a chance of playing that high quality

There are currently no default tools built into Windows that you can use to resize videos. You can use Windows Movie Maker to edit videos and add transitions, etc, but not to change the actual video resolution.

Table of Contents

If you do a search for RESIZE VIDEOS in Google, you’ll get a list of a bunch of commercial applications that you would have to shell out cash for! So if you’re lucky enough to have run across this post, I’ll show you a couple of free ways to resize videos quickly and easily.

HandBrake is my all time favorite utility for converting and encoding videos. Basically, it can take as input pretty much any video file you can throw at it and it gives you two options for output: MP4 and MKV. You can also pick from three video codecs for the two video containers: H.264, MPEG-4 and MPEG-2.

You’ll see the progress of the conversion at the bottom of the program window. The amount of time will depend on the original size and encoding of your video.

VirtualDub is a free video capture and video processing software app. It doesn’t have many of the video editing features that you would find in Adobe Premiere, but it is streamlined for performing linear operations on video very fast. It also has batch-processing capabilities for processing large number of video files.

You can do a TON of stuff with VirtualDub, including add special effects to your videos such as blurs, black and white, flipping, and lots more. However, we’ll only going to go over how you can use it to resize your videos. It should be noted that VirtualDub works best on AVI files and will require additional codecs installed in order to work with other files types like AVCHD, MP4, etc.

First download VirtualDub and extract it to a folder on your hard drive. VirtualDub does not require any installation; it simply runs directly via an EXE! That means it doesn’t mess around with your registry or anything else in Windows.

Browse to the location of your video and open it. You’ll now see your video appear twice in the main window. This is because the left one is considered your original and the right one is your “processed” or altered version. When you apply a filter to your video, the right one updates and you can watch both at the same time! Cool!

You should now see your original video on the left and your processed video on the right, in my case, half the size!

Freemake Video Converter

I would have recommended Freemake Video Converter over VirtualDub because it accepts so many different video formats as input, but I purposely am listing it last because the installer for the program has a lot of junkware. This is not malware or spyware, but it’s just junk that you would not want on your system.

I really like this program because it has a ton of options that will let you get your video onto pretty much any device you can think of. I really just wish they didn’t try to bundle that crapware along with the installer! You can even send the video directly to YouTube, convert it to HTML5 compatible format, convert it to Xbox and Playstation format and even burn to DVD or Blu-ray disc right from the program. If you’re an Apple user, you’ll love the to Apple option, which lets you pick the exact device you want the video to be played on.

How To Reset A Ps4 Controller

At some point while owning a Sony PS4 console, you may come across an unfortunate circumstance where your controller doesn’t work. Although the DualShock 4 controllers are highly revered for their high-quality functioning and durability, things can always go wrong.

There could be situations where the controller becomes unresponsive, one or a few of the buttons aren’t doing what they should, or a number of other issues. In these cases, a good fix to try is to reset your controller.

Table of Contents

There are a couple ways you can reset a PS4 controller, depending on if you have a second controller or not. Both methods are pretty simple to accomplish.

Reset the Controller Through the PS4

This method to reset a PS4 controller is basically disconnecting and reconnecting your controller to the PS4. In many cases this can fix DualShock 4 controller issues. The only condition is that you need to have another controller handy to operate the console.

If you don’t have another controller, the next method will still allow you to reset one. If you do, here are the steps you can take:

You will see all controllers that have been or are connected to your PS4. You should see a green dot next to the controller you’re using, and a grey one on the controller that doesn’t work.

Select the inactive controller and press the Options button on the controller you’re using. Then select Forget Device.

Turn off your PS4 by holding down the PS4 button until the Quick Menu appears.

When the PS4 is off, connect the inactive one to the PS4 via USB cable. Then, turn on your PS4 again.

Press the PlayStation button on the USB-connected controller and it should pair to the PS4. You’ll know it’s connected when the light bar turns blue.

Reset a PS4 Controller with the Hard Reset Button

Before starting, you’ll want to shut down and unplug your PS4 so it doesn’t accidentally interfere with the controller. Then follow these steps:

You can find the Reset button on the back of your controller, near the L2 shoulder button.

Using your tool, insert it into the small hole and press down the reset button for 3-5 seconds.

Connect the controller to the PS4 via USB cable. Then plug in the console again and turn it back on.

Press the PlayStation button on your controller. The light bar should turn blue, indicating it has paired to the PS4.

If it has paired, you should be able to remove it from the USB and use it normally again. If not, there are still some other options you could try in order to fix your controller’s issue.

More Ways to Troubleshoot Your PS4 Controller

If reconnecting or restarting your controller isn’t working, there are still a few more options for you to troubleshoot PS4 issues.

USB Cables

Check your USB cable and ports. Plugg the controller in with a different USB cable, or try the other USB port on the console. In order to make sure the PlayStation console itself is not the issue, you should also try connecting it to a different PS4 if you can or connect the PS4 controller to a PC.

Make Sure It’s Charged

Check the charge on your controller to be sure it has the battery level to run. To do thato, hold the PlayStation button on the controller to bring up the Quick Menu. At the bottom, you should see a controller icon with the battery level besides it. If the battery level is low, this could cause connectivity issues.

Connect your controller to the PS4 via USB in order to charge it. You should see the light bar turn orange while it’s charging.

It Could Be Your Wi-Fi

Sometimes, Wi-Fi can cause controller connectivity issues. To check if this is the problem, turn off your Wi-Fi router by unplugging it from the power source before doing the controller reset with the Reset button.

After you reset the PS4 controller, don’t turn your Wi-Fi back on, but check thet color of your controller’s lights. If it turns blue while the router is off, then you should contact your Internet Service Provider. You can request a different broadcast channel, and once changed you should be able to use your controller with the Wi-Fi on.

If the controller’s light bar is still white, then it’s either an issue with the PS4 or the controller.

Is Your PS4 Controller Working Now?

If you’ve tried all these possibilities and the controller still won’t connect, your best shot is to send it to Sony to have them fix it. You can do this if your PlayStation is still covered under the one-year warranty and you still have your PS4’s Proof of Purchase.

If you feel this is the best option for you, go to PlayStation’s Fix & Replace page to enter your information. Then you can send your controller in and they will repair it or replace it for you.
