Suggested March 2024 How To Lock And Hide Individual Whatsapp Chats

To prevent nosey people from peeking at your personal messages, WhatsApp already lets you lock the app using a passcode or biometrics (fingerprint or Face ID). However, the messaging company is now expanding this feature to enable users to lock individual chats and hide them away from plain sight. What this means is that even if someone manages to get into your WhatsApp, they won’t be able to see locked chats. That said, if you are someone who has been eagerly waiting for this feature, let’s learn how to lock and hide WhatsApp chats on your Android and iOS phone.

Note: The Chat lock feature in WhatsApp has been officially announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on May 15, 2023. It is no longer limited to beta builds. It is rolling out to every Android and iOS user right now.

How to Lock WhatsApp Chats on Android & iOS

For this tutorial, we tested this feature on WhatsApp for Android (version #2.23.9.22). The steps remain the same on iPhone, so let’s look at how to enable the “Chat lock” feature on WhatsApp:

Open the contact’s conversation you wish to lock on WhatsApp and tap on their name.

Then, scroll down and tap on the new “Chat lock” option.

At this point, we want to tell you that archived chats cannot be locked. If you wish to lock an archived WhatsApp chat, you first need to unarchive the conversation.

Tap on “Unarchive” in the warning message if that’s the case, else proceed to the next step.

Once unarchived, enable the “Lock this chat with fingerprint” toggle on Android. You will see a similar Face ID-centric toggle on iOS.

WhatsApp will now prompt that your conversation will not be locked on linked devices. So, be careful when using the same WhatsApp on two phones. Tap on “OK” and confirm your fingerprint or Face ID to lock the chat.

And that’s it! You now know how to lock an individual WhatsApp chat without any app, and the app confirms the same with a pop-up message.

Moreover, you will still see a notification for new messages in locked chats, but these messages will be hidden in the notification area. That chat is hidden too, as we explain below.

How to Access Locked Chats on WhatsApp

Open WhatsApp and swipe down on the chat feed to reveal the “Locked chats” section.

Now, tap the “Locked chats” option and use your fingerprint to unlock these hidden conversations.

The “Locked chats” section in WhatsApp is locked automatically once you go back to the main chat screen.

Check out this short video demo for a better understanding of how you can access the locked conversations on WhatsApp:

How to Turn Off ‘Chat Lock’ for WhatsApp Chats

If you no longer want to lock and hide conversations within WhatsApp, it’s easy to do so. Simply follow the steps below:

First, open the chat and tap on the contact’s name.

Scroll down and access the “Chat lock” feature. Here, tap the “Lock this chat with fingerprint” option and input your fingerprint to toggle off the feature.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we lock a single chat in WhatsApp?

Yes, it is now possible to lock a single conversation in WhatsApp. The messaging app is testing a “Chat lock” feature in beta right now and will start rolling out the feature to all Android and iOS users soon. Then, you will be able to lock a single chat and hide them away from nosey people.

How can I lock my WhatsApp chat without archive?

You no longer need to archive chats to hide them from the chat feed on WhatsApp. The messaging is rolling out a new “Chat lock” feature to hide single chats on your Android phone and iPhone. And you will need to unarchive chats to use this feature, as these conversations live under a hidden “Locked chats” section.

How To Move Whatsapp Group Chats To Telegram App

Why move to Telegram from WhatsApp?

Here are the common reasons why, we think, you should move to Telegram from WhatsApp.

Telegram is completely open-source and free to use. The company uses military-grade encryption for protecting your messages from attackers.

Telegram uses a straightforward privacy policy, which doesn’t permit sharing sensitive user data with third-party entities.

More importantly, Telegram is a responsible company. Since its initial launch, the platform has tried its best to ensure maximum user-privacy and convenience. For instance, the ability to share huge files is one of the most popular features, indeed.

Now that you know these things, shall we see how to migrate WhatsApp group chats to Telegram?

How to move WhatsApp Group Chats to Telegram

Unfortunately, because WhatsApp and Telegram are direct competitors, you cannot directly sync your group chats from WhatsApp with a new Telegram group. Here, the practical solution is to export the chat from your WhatsApp group and share it to the Telegram interface. These messages will be available in a section named ‘Saved Messages’ to see the exported messages. Here’s how you can use this feature.

1. Open WhatsApp on your Android smartphone and select the group that you want to export.

2. Now, tap on the Options button on the top-right and select the option called ‘Export Chat.’

3. Choose Telegram from the share menu that opens up.

WhatsApp allows you to decide whether you want to include group media in the chat. If you tick this option, the sharing size will be bigger, consuming more time. Please keep in mind that this method allows you to safe-keep the messages sent/received on a WhatsApp group. You cannot replant all the conversations into a new group.

Create a Telegram Group & Switch from WhatsApp

Since there is no official integration between WhatsApp and Telegram, you need to follow the steps we have given below.

1. You have to install and set up Telegram. You will have to provide and verify your mobile number. In a few seconds, you will be ready to go.

2. Now, open the sidebar and choose ‘New Group’ from the menu.

3. In the next step, you have to select the people you want in the group. You can pick people whom you frequently contact or search for their names.

4. In the upcoming step, Telegram will ask you to name the group.

5. If this is done, you can copy the Invite Link to the group and paste it on your current WhatsApp group.

Anyone who has access to the link will be able to join your new Telegram group. Therefore, make sure that you keep the link as confidential as possible. By the way, Telegram groups go far beyond the 250-members restriction. In fact, these groups can host thousands of users without any hassle. So, it’s a great time to shift to Telegram if you plan to accommodate more people into your group.

Now that you have brought everyone to the Telegram group (good luck with that, by the way), you can enjoy a fantastic set of features inside. For instance, you would have access to better admin rights control, extra group privacy control, and crazy-huge file sharing support. All these come in handy when you want to create a group that can handle all sorts of conversations.

For instance, if you need a space where you can share official documents, Telegram is the best. You can also avail of Telegram bots to better management of resources. Long story short, migrating your groups from WhatsApp to Telegram is excellent from every perspective.

How To Send Disappearing Photos And Videos In Whatsapp

Have you ever wanted to send images and videos that you would prefer not to keep in the chat window of WhatsApp? If yes, WhatsApp will soon add what you are looking for. After confirming the feature in an interview recently, WhatsApp has started rolling out the option to send disappearing photos and videos to beta testers on Android. This new feature is called “View Once,” and here’s how you can use it to send photos and videos that self-destruct once they are viewed in WhatsApp.

Send Disappearing Photos and Videos in WhatsApp (2024)

Before getting started, it’s worth mentioning that the “View Once” mode is available only for beta testers at the time of writing this article. Hence, you may not immediately see the feature on your device. However, we could expect WhatsApp to roll out the feature to all users in the coming weeks.

What is “View Once” Mode in WhatsApp?

View Once is a new WhatsApp feature that lets users privately exchange images and videos. Media sent using View once mode will disappear after the recipient has viewed it. Based on my testing, you can see if the recipient has opened the image even if you have disabled read receipts. However, there are a few caveats you should keep in mind before using the feature. View Once mode is not as private as one might assume.

Although images or videos disappear once the recipient closes them, the receiver can always take screenshots. Moreover, WhatsApp won’t notify you if the recipient takes screenshots. In fact, WhatsApp openly admits this limitation and clarifies it in a pop-up when you use View Once mode for the first time, hinting that the messaging giant is not planning to implement a screenshot detection mechanism in the future. Hence, if you are thinking of sending private images through this new feature, you are better off with other secure messaging apps or Snapchat.

Once you have sent an image or video in View Once mode, you (sender) can’t open it from the conversation page. However, if you send an image by accident, you can delete the message for everyone before the recipient manages to open it.

Disappearing Messages vs View Once Mode in WhatsApp

You might now be wondering that WhatsApp already has an option to send disappearing messages. And yeah, it does. So, what makes the new View Once feature different from disappearing messages? That’s what we will explore in this section.

The primary difference between disappearing messages and View Once is the duration. While messages sent via disappearing messages mode in WhatsApp will expire after 7 days, photos and videos marked as View Once will disappear once the recipient opens the media file. Another way the new feature differs from the disappearing messages is in its scope. Disappearing messages affect all text and media files in the conversation, while View Once is limited to images and videos.

Steps to Send “View Once” Photos/ Videos in WhatsApp

Now that you have an idea about the new View Once feature and how it works, here’s how to use it in personal chats and groups:

2. When you are on the page that lets you write a caption before sending the photo or video, tap on the new “View Once” button present at the bottom right corner of the chatbox. The icon will turn green once you have enabled it.

3. As mentioned earlier, you can’t see the image you sent in the chat window. Instead, you will see a text that says “Photo” and a clock icon next to it. Here’s how an image sent using View Once mode appears for the sender and recipient.

4. When the recipient opens the media file, the text “Photo” will automatically change to “Opened” to reflect the current status. This happens regardless of the read receipts privacy setting. I turned off read receipts on both devices and was able to see when the image was opened. You can long-press the “Opened” chat bubble and tap on the ‘i’ button to view the detailed message info of the photo/ video.

Send Self-Destructing Photos and Videos in WhatsApp

So, that’s how you use the new View Once feature to send expiring photos and videos on WhatsApp. Since the feature doesn’t have a screenshot blocking or detection mechanism, I would not recommend using it for exchanging private images or videos. However, it could come in handy for other images that are not sensitive in nature. How To Protect Against Vendor Lock

It appears that Oracle CEO Larry Ellison is aggressively either buying or putting out of business potential chúng tôi and HP look to be his latest targets on the latter path and his goal appears to be total account control, that is, a situation in which one vendor single-handedly has an enterprise’s entire account.

Ellison says he is building a company like IBM in the 1960s, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. But I’m pretty convinced he is building a company more like IBM in the 1980s and that IBM and EMC both are closer to the way IBM was in the 1960s than Oracle ever will be.

However, Oracle isn’t the only company going after this total account control concept. And given total account control often has historically led to account abuse, I thought it would be timely to revisit the defenses you have when a vendor gets this bug and then decides to abuse chúng tôi let’s talk about all of that this week.

Looking back, the IBM of the 1960s was in line with many companies of that time. Employment was for life, there were pensions, even a company song and that was when the phrase “no one ever lost their job buying from IBM” was chúng tôi was trusted and didn’t abuse that trust and had unbreakable rules with regard to disparaging competitors. The idea of chasing a competing CEO across the country with process servers would have been below the chúng tôi defined ethics, honor, and good behavior in business.

Not many companies like this exist anymore, but if you were to make a list, firms like IBM and EMC would head it.

Avoiding the Downside of Account Control

First and foremost is, you should do everything you can to avoid letting any vendor get the kind of control that would allow them to dictate pricing. But even if they get that kind of control you have options.

One option is to freeze new purchases and expand on other chúng tôi reduces the account control over time and you can increasingly use the very real threat to negotiate more favorable terms when you renew your licensing agreements.

Your second option is to negotiate some flexibility for things like virtualization during initial contract negotiations or during chúng tôi do have to look at credible competitive alternatives, but in this market you should be able to find strong migration offerings from competing vendors and seriously bring them into the process to give you negotiating leverage.

You may have to do one or two competitive migrations before any dominant vendor gets the hint. But this will pay dividends long term and balance out the negotiating process.

You can also form buying blocks or use centralized buying services. The US Government has the General Accounting Office, which often sets contract terms for most agencies and state governments, often for buying blocks to get more favorable terms. Similarly, companies can often use large services organizations like HP’s, Dell’s or IBM’s to get more favorable terms. I expect HP’s services organization would be especially aggressive at the moment.

Notify the damaged vendor. If one of your other vendors is damaged by the practices of the dominant vendor, that firm may be able to argue anti-competitive practices. They’ll likely be able of offer ways other customers have used to get around the chúng tôi gives you access to more information on how to respond and may put additional pressure on the dominant vendor to discontinue this practice.

Finally, think about outsourcing the solution. Often large service providers have much more power in a negotiation than you do because they aggregate customers and can use their massive size to gain more favorable terms.

In a lot of cases, Internet service providers are required by law to collect and store customer data for a limited period of time, so that legal investigation agencies can counteract cybercrime.

An ISP may also throttle network bandwidth if you’re engaged in streaming or torrenting activities.

Throttling can also be used to force you into upgrading to more expensive subscription plans with superior Internet speed.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that most privacy-concerned users are constantly looking for solutions to hide their browsing history from their ISP.

For instance, if you ever tried to use a web browser in incognito or browsing mode, know that it won’t prevent your ISP from monitoring your data.

Google Chrome clear explains this:

But we’re here to guide you on the right path and show you how to improve your online privacy by concealing your browsing activity from your Internet service provider.

How can I hide my browsing history from my ISP?

A VPN service offers the easiest way to stop ISP tracking on Windows 10, Mac, Android, iOS, and any other platform.

You can use a virtual private network solution to hide the fact that you’re browsing, torrenting, gaming, or streaming, thanks to encryption.

Instead, consider investing in a premium VPN service since it will tremendously help you on the long haul.

And we can’t think of a better candidate than Private Internet Access. It provides 256-bit military-grade encryption through OpenVPN.

You can also check out WireGuard, a newer, faster and just as secure protocol if you’re looking to block ISP spying on your computer.

When using a VPN, it’s essential to understand that you’re basically trusting the VPN provider with your data, instead of your ISP. That’s why you must opt for a VPN service that offers a zero-logging privacy policy.

Private Internet Access is a prime example in this case. It’s one of the few VPN services that proved its no-logging claims in court (twice).

More about PIA:

Exclusive DNS servers

VPN kill switch

Shadowsocks and SOCKS5 proxy

24/7 live chat support

30-day money-back guarantee (no free trial)

Private Internet Access

Use a reliable VPN like PIA with a zero-logging privacy policy (proved!) to hide your browsing activity from your ISP.

You DNS servers are responsible for translating the domain names you enter in your browser address bar into IP addresses. It’s the way in which computers communicate with each other over the web.

Here’s how to change your DNS settings on Windows 10:

In our example above, we used the Google Public DNS servers because they’re free, fast, and secure. You can also try CloudFlare or OpenDNS.

If you have IPv6 connectivity, make sure to also modify your IPv6 DNS server addresses.

However, if you’re the owner of a trustworthy VPN service like Private Internet Access (buy here), you don’t have to do anything.

That’s because PIA runs its private DNS servers as soon as you connect to a VPN server. It enhances your online privacy since you’re already encrypting your data traffic with a VPN.

The Tor anonymity network amplifies your online privacy and stops your ISP from seeing what you browse or download. It’s particularly great for users looking to defeat government censorship.

Tor encrypts and reroutes your data traffic through multiple nodes all over the world before it reaches its destination. It makes sure that no one can understand who you are or what you’re doing on the Internet.

All you have to do is download the Tor Browser, fire it up, and surf the web as if you’re using a regular browser.

If you’re worried that your VPN provider may not be truthful about its no-logs claim, you can install the Tails operating system, which is based on Tor.

Tails redirects all computer traffic through Tor. So, after installing your VPN service and connecting to a VPN server on Tails, your ISP or VPN provider will not be able to track you down.

HTTPS websites use SSL certificates to provide end-to-end encryption. It’s one of the best ways to protect your computer from eavesdroppers.

Using HTTPS instead of HTTP is also a great way to prevent your ISP from monitoring your data usage. And the simplest way to enforce HTTPS pages is by installing a web browser extension.

For example, Private Internet Access (buy here) has a browser addon with an integrated HTTPS feature. Otherwise, you can set up HTTPS Everywhere.

Keep in mind that an HTTPS browser extension won’t work outside of the web browser, such as torrent clients. A VPN is better in that case.

In 2023 alone, Google made almost 135 billion US dollars in ad revenue. It made it happening by collecting your data and creating attractive ad opportunities for third-party marketing agencies.

Your ISP also has a big role in this. But you can block IPS and Big Data companies from monitoring you by turning to a secure search engine as an alternative to Google, Yahoo!, and others.

Conclusion

You can also change your DNS settings, join the Tor anonymous network, access only HTTPS websites, and resort to a secure search engine like DuckDuckGo.

Your connection is not secure – websites you visit can find out your details:

Use a VPN to protect your privacy and secure your connection.

We recommend Visit Private Internet Access

We recommend Private Internet Access , a VPN with a no-log policy, open source code, ad blocking and much more; now 79% off.
