Suggested March 2024 How To Fill Out A Pdf Form On Iphone And Ipad With Markup

If you have a PDF form you need to fill out, you’ll be pleased to discover that iPhone and iPad can fill in PDF documents rather easily thanks to the built-in Markup feature of iOS. There’s no need to print out any documents, you can handle editing the PDF entirely from iOS.

Given how PDF forms are a fairly common occurrence, whether for an invoice, job application, new patient forms, loan documents, or any of the other droves of documentation you encounter in life, you’re almost certainly to use this feature once you discover it exists.

Like many other iOS functions, the Markup tool kit is easy to use but it’s somewhat hidden and may be less than obvious, leaving many users unaware that iOS has native productivity tools to fill out PDF documents, sign, draw on them, and much more. We’ll focus on the Markup tools that allow for editing and filling out PDF documents for our purposes here.

How to Fill in & Edit PDF Documents on iOS

You will need to open the PDF form on the iPhone or iPad first. You can open a PDF directly from Mail app if one has been emailed to you simply but tapping on it, but pdf documents can also be opened and edited via Messages, iCloud Drive, and from other sources as well, as long as you can tap to open the PDF document in iOS.

Open the PDF file you want to fill out and modify – if it’s in an email or iCloud Drive, simply tap on the PDF file to open it in iOS

At the PDF preview screen, look for and tap on the little toolbox icon in the corner of the screen to enter into Markup mode

Tap on the “T” text button to place text on the PDF form and start filling it out, you can move the text block around by simply tapping and dragging to where it needs to be

Tap again in the next form space to fill out the entire PDF document, continuing as necessary until completed (if you make a mistake, tap the loopy arrow Undo button)

When finished filling out your PDF form, tap on “Done” to save your changes

Share the filled out PDF form as usual, if this is returning an email the marked up PDF file will be automatically embedded in an email reply

That’s all there is to it, once you get the hang of how markup works and how it is accessed you will master the feature in no time. Remember, this is for PDF but the same text markup tools work on pictures too.

This obviously focuses on filling out a PDF document, but the same markup tools allow you to write and draw on photos in iOS and even sign documents digitally from iPhone or iPad, right within Mail app, Photos app, or iCloud Drive. Markup is an excellent feature that can be a significant contributor to allowing an iOS device to perform real work and productivity duties, so be sure you learn how it works and you’ll be

Note: The ability to fill in PDF files and use Markup is included with all modern versions of iOS, if you’re on an older release you will need to update to anything beyond 10.0 or later to gain the markup ability.

By the way, the Mac includes similar markup tools in Mail app for attachments too, so be sure to check that out as well, and computer users can fill out PDF forms and documents on the Mac with Preview as well.

How To Setup A Printer On Iphone Or Ipad

Thanks to Apple’s AirPrint protocol, printing on iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch is easier than you think. You only have to spend a little time setting up your printer before you can start using it with an iOS or iPadOS device.

But what if you have a printer that doesn’t support AirPrint? Don’t worry. You can still rely on your printer manufacturer’s support app to send print jobs wirelessly. Also, if you use a wired-only printer, you can opt for a third-party AirPrint activator to help you out.

Use AirPrint to Print on iPhone and iPad

AirPrint is a wireless protocol by Apple that allows the iPhone iPad to communicate wirelessly with printers. It requires zero drivers or support software. The only thing you must do is make sure that the printer and your iOS device are on the same Wi-Fi router. If they are, you can print right away!

If you use a recent printer with wireless capabilities, chances are that it’s AirPrint-compatible. Here’s a complete list of compatible printer models featuring AirPlay support. If your printer is not listed there, skip to the next section.

1. Start by connecting your printer to the same wireless network router as your iPhone or iPad. You must check your printer’s user manual or online documentation for specific instructions. For example, if you use an HP printer with a touchscreen, open the Network or Wireless settings menu and use the Wireless Setup Wizard to join the network.

2. Open (or select) the image, document, or web page you want to print and tap the Share icon. It’s shaped like an arrow coming out of the top of a box and is present on most apps (e.g., Files, Photos, and Safari) on the iPhone and iPad. Then, tap the Print option on the Share Sheet.

3. Tap the Select Printer option at the top of the screen. If your printer supports AirPlay (and you’ve connected to the same wireless network as your iPhone or iPad), it will appear within the list. Tap to select it.

Learn what you can do to troubleshoot an AirPrint printer that fails to show up on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Make any adjustments to the print job, such as the number of copies, media quality, paper size, etc. Then, tap Print on the right corner of the screen. Your AirPrint printer will start printing immediately.

Note: Learn what you can do to troubleshoot an AirPrint printer that fails to show up on your iPhone or iPad.

Use Printer Support Software to Print on iPhone and iPad

If your wireless printer doesn’t support AirPrint, you must install any available support software from the App Store. For example, printing apps such as Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY, Epson iPrint, and HP Smart let you print wirelessly from your iPhone or iPad. These apps also provide additional customization options for AirPrint-compatible printers, so you may still want to install them regardless.

Here’s a brief rundown of the HP Smart app in action.

1. Install HP Smart from the App Store.

2. Open HP Smart and create an HP account (or sign in if you already have one).

3. Tap the Add Your First Printer option to add an HP printer.

Note: If your wireless printer doesn’t show up, make sure that it’s connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone or iPad. Or enter its IP address. If the printer uses Bluetooth for connectivity, remember to activate the Bluetooth radio on iPhone and iPad.

4. Tap on a category (e.g., Print Photos or Print Documents) to create a print job.

5. Tap Print to send the print job to your HP printer.

Note: If your print jobs fail to go through, work through these troubleshooting tips to fix your wireless printer.

Use Printopia or O’Print to Print on iPhone and iPad

Suppose you use a non-AirPrint wireless printer without support software or a wired-only printer. In that case, it’s possible to print from iPhone or iPad by sending print jobs wirelessly through desktop devices. For that, you need third-party apps for the Mac or PC that simulate AirPrint.

Printopia is a paid app for the Mac that costs $19.99, but it comes with a free 7-day trial. It lets you add up to five printers for use with your iPhone or iPad. However, don’t expect it to work with Android smartphones.

After downloading and installing Printopia, open it and switch to the Printers tab. Then, select the Plus button to add a printer. If it doesn’t show up, make sure to connect the printer to your Mac first.

Then, assuming that your Apple devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, open the photo, document, or webpage you want to print on your iPhone or iPad and tap the Share button. Your printer will then appear within the printer selection pane. Select it, make the required adjustments for the print job, and tap Print.

Download, install, and open O’Print. You should then see any printers you’ve already added to your PC. If not, here’s how to add new printers on Windows.

By default, O’Print enables all printers (including PDF printers) for the iPhone and iPad. Simply select the green icon next to a printer to deactivate it.

Following that, start a print job on your iPhone or iPad, and you should be able to select your printer. Then, modify the print job as needed and tap Print.

How To Use Search On Iphone & Ipad With Spotlight

Do you have many apps, files, emails, messages, contacts, and other data on the iPhone or iPad that you wish you could easily search through? It can be a challenge to scroll through all the home screen pages, contact lists, notes, emails, messages, and other stuff to find what you’re looking for on iOS and iPadOS, but there’s an easier way. This is exactly where Spotlight search comes in handy.

Spotlight is a powerful system-wide search feature that’s available on Apple’s iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices like the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It helps users find anything – files, text, contact information, emails, apps, info – that’s stored on their device, and it can even fetch results from the web. Thanks to the seamless Siri integration, Spotlight is capable of displaying suggestions based on your search history and updates results as you type too.

If you’re unfamiliar with Spotlight search on iPhone and iPad, then read on as we explain how you can use the Spotlight search feature on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

How to Use Search on iPhone & iPad with Spotlight

There are two ways to access Spotlight search on the iPhone and iPad, though one way is noticeably faster than the other. Let’s take a look at how you can access and start using Spotlight on your device:

If you’re an Apple Music user, you can quickly search for songs using the search bar and start playing it without even having to open the app. Likewise, you can also search for YouTube videos by adding “youtube” to the search term.

Now you know how how to get started with Spotlight search on your iPhone and iPad to find stuff on your device.

Try it out by searching for apps, emails, messages, notes, contacts, and just about anything else that’s stored on your iPhone or iPad.

From being able to find apps on your device to searching literally anything on the web right from the comfort of your home screen, Spotlight has a lot to offer and is a great way to navigate the depths of an iPhone or iPad. Once you get used to this feature, you may never want to scroll through home screen pages to find apps, a giant address book in Contacts, or even opening your browser to fetch web search results quickly. Spotlight is quite powerful so try it out and use it enough to master it, you’re sure to appreciate the feature.

Apart from all that, there are some fun and useful things that you could do with Spotlight. You could find restaurants with just emojis on your iPhone or iPad. Let’s say you type in the pizza emoji, Spotlight would fetch you results of restaurants that serve Pizza. Kind of neat, isn’t it?

Additionally, if you want to quickly convert currency, you don’t really need to open your web browser. Just type in the currency value as you normally would on Google, and Spotlight would display the most accurate exchange rate.

And as was alluded to earlier, you can also search Wikipedia and the web from Spotlight too, so even if something isn’t on your device you can still look for it or seek it out.

Spotlight has a ton of features, and there’s also a capability called Siri Suggestions that some users may like or dislike, if you’re not a fan of that you can turn off Siri suggestions in search and you’ll stop seeing things that the virtual assistant isn’t being used for Spotlight searches.

As mentioned earlier, Spotlight is also available on macOS and functions in a fairly similar way. So, if you own a MacBook, iMac or Mac Pro, you might be interested in learning how you can get information regarding anything using Spotlight on your Mac.

We’ve covered a ton of Spotlight topics over the years for the Apple ecosystem, browse around those articles and you’re sure to learn something new.

How To Use Iphone Or Ipad With A Broken Power Button

If you thought an unresponsive home button is the worst thing to happen to your iPhone, you should ask the guy whose power button just went kaput.

It’s very uncommon that the power button of the iPhone/iPad breaks. But when it does, it’s almost as much crippling as losing the home button. Thankfully, there is always an alternative that comes in very handy. That’s precisely what we’re looking at.

How to Use iPhone or iPad When Power Button Cannot Work/Broken

As a start, here are some of the functions for which we need the power button (usually):

#1. Lock Screen your iPhone or iPad Screen

Obviously, the power button’s main feature is to lock the screen. That’s why Steve Jobs called it the sleep button (rather than “power” button). As catastrophic it seems at first when you’ve got a broken/non-working power button, locking the screen is pretty easy without touching the same. Here’s how:

Step #1. Launch Settings app on your iOS device.

Step #2. Now tap on General.

Step #3. Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.

If your device is running iOS 13, you can skip the second step and jump directly on Accessibility under Display & Brightness.

Step #4. On the Accessibility screen, tap on AssistiveTouch.

Step #5. Turn on AssistiveTouch.

This will enable that virtual button, which floats on your iOS device screen.

Step #6. Tap on that virtual AssistiveTouch button and a menu will open up with a few options.

Step #7. Tap on Device and then tap on Lock Screen icon to lock your iOS device screen.

Note that AssistiveTouch is packed with multiple useful features. You can explore its full functionality by reading our complete guide.

To switch off the device, we hold the power button for a long time. With an AssistiveTouch button, you can turn off your device.

As mentioned above, enable AssistiveTouch. If you have fallen in love with this virtual button, you wouldn’t have removed it.

Step #1. Tap on AssistiveTouch button.

Step #2. From the pop-up menu, tap Device icon.

Step #3. Now tap and hold that Lock Screen icon for long.

After a few seconds, you will see ‘slide to power off’ slider on your device screen. Now you can turn off your device by dragging that slider from left to right.

With iOS 11, Apple introduced a software-based shut down option. Instead of using a physical power button, you can use this soft button to switch off your iPhone or iPad.

Step #1. Open Settings and then General.

Step #2. Scroll down to the bottom and tap on Shut Down.

This will bring up ‘slide to power off’ slider. Drag that slider from left to right.

#3. Switching On

When you connect your iPhone/iPad to a Mac or Windows computer, you may need to enter your passcode to unlock the device.

Also, note that your iOS device shows you a pop-up asking you to trust the computer. Simply tap on Trust button and go ahead.

Once you enable AssistiveTouch (Method has shown above), follow the steps given below.

Step #1. Wake up your iPhone/iPad and unlock the device.

You can use that virtual button on the locked screen as well. But what is the use of taking screenshots on a locked screen?

Step #2. Next, open the screen of which you want to take screenshots.

Step #3. Now tap on AssistiveTouch button.

Step #4. Then tap on Device icon.

Step #5. Tap on More (…) icon.

Step #6. Finally, tap on Screenshot icon.

Listen to that camera shutter sound as your device takes the screenshot.

Users, who frequently take screenshots on their iOS devices, can change the position of Screenshot icon in AssistiveTouch menu. Moreover, it is recommended to use AssistiveTouch button instead of Home and Power button to take screenshots.

That’s all folks!

Signing off…

Although Apple’s hardware are powerful enough to endure your taps and touches for a long time, when they fail to work correctly, the replacements can be too costly. I prefer to use AssistiveTouch button every day as I don’t want to use power and home buttons on my iPhone and iPad.
