Illustrator is a vector graphic software from Adobe, that has many tools and features that can be used to create unique artwork. In this post we will show you how to create a Spiral Text effect, that can be used for logo creation, decoration and so much more.
How to create Spiral Text in IllustratorCreating the spiral text will teach you how to create text, transform, rotate, use the transform effects, and use angles. These are skills that can be used to create other effects. Let’s now so how easy and simple it is to create spiral text effects in Illustrator.
Open and prepare Illustrator
Write and align text
Group text
Use the transform effect
Change the color of individual sides
Expand
Save
1] Open and prepare IllustratorThe New document options window will appear, enter the options that you want for the document. Enter the dimensions Width and Height, Color mode and Raster effect (resolution). You may change other options if you wish. When you are finished press Ok to confirm your options and create the blank canvas.
2] Write, align and color textWrite
Align text
When you have four words rotate them as follows:
Top Text
The top text will not need to be transformed, so it will remain the same. Unless you have another design in mind.
Left text
Select the text then go to the top menu bar and press Object then Transform then Rotate.
Bottom text
Select the text then go to the top menu bar and press Object then Transform then Rotate. When the Rotate window appears, type in 180 then press Ok to confirm.
Right text
Select the text then go to the top menu bar and press Object then Transform then Rotate. When the Rotate window appears, type in 270 then press Ok to confirm.
These are the words aligned to form the square.
Change words
In this step, you will change the words themselves if you wish. The words there now are all the same, they all say saying SPIRAL. You may want them to be four different words or two sets are going to be the same and two sets different. In this case, I will write two words in repeat the words will be SPIRAL DESIGNS.
This is what the words look like, when you write two different sets. You may have to re-align to get things to fit, depending on the words you used.
Color text
This is the part where color will be added to the words, since this uses two sets of words you may want to color each matching set differently. You may want to keep them as one color. You can experiment and see what you will eventually like. The purpose of your design will also dictate what the colors will be. If it is for a client, the client may have already chosen the colors they want. Design with these colors in mind and find interesting and creative ways to use them in the design. You can add color later on in the design and you will see it shown later.
Tip
When you have reached the place where all four words are aligned the way they should be, select all of them and hold Alt and then drag, this will duplicate them. Put the duplicate to the side off the canvas, this will help if you want to try a new design. You will not have to start all over.
3] Group text 4] Use the Transform effectThis step requires you to use the transform effect. To use the transform effect, select the group of texts then go to the top menu bar and select Effect then Distort and transform then Transform.
The Transform effect options window will appear, this is where you will choose the options to transform the words. The first thing to do is to tick Preview so that you can see all changes in real-time.
Scale
Under scale change the Horizontal and Vertical values to 80% each.
Move
Under move leave the Vertical and Horizontal values at 0% each.
Rotate degrees
This is a rotation angle with a positive number.
This is a rotation angle with a negative number.
Options
Under options check the boxes beside Transform object, Transform pattern, and Scale stroke and effects. Make sure that Reflect X, Reflect Y, and Random are all unselected.
Copies
Under Copies you will enter the number of copies of the words you want to show. In this article, 15 copies were used. The number of copies will depend on how far down you want the spiral to go.
This is the finished artwork with a value of -15 in the Rotate value box.
5] Change the color of individual sidesThis is the spiral with different colors
6] ExpandExpand appearance
When you have made the changes you will want to expand the artwork. Expanding will allow you to make changes that will affect all of the artwork at once. If you do not expand then you will have to make changes to each side independently.
To expand select the artwork then go to the top menu and choose Object then Expand appearance.
If you do not mind each side having different colors and gradients then you can choose not to expand.
Expand
Go back to the top menu and press Object then Expand.
A menu window will appear just press Ok.
Change colors, gradients, and strokes for all the artwork
With the artwork expanded, you can now make universal changes that will affect all the artwork and not just one side.
Change color
All the text is given a color after Expanding appearance and Expanding.
All the text is given a gradient after Expanding appearance and Expanding.
The texts with a gradient and stroke after Expanding appearance and Expanding. Keep the stroke light because it will get overcrowded as the spiral gets tighter.
7] SaveRead: How to recolor objects in Photoshop
What is Expand Appearance and Expand in Illustrator?Expand appearance and Expand will break up objects into individual colors. This is important in cases where you want to select and edit or delete colors in an object. Using Trace on an image and then expanding the result will allow you to delete the background easily. This can however be complicated if there are a lot of different colors in the artwork.
Why save images as JPEG?Saving in JPEG is best for images that will be transferred or stored online or on medias with limited space. JPEG files are smaller and take up less space and bandwidth. However, JPEG files will lose quality the more they are saved. This means that JPEG should be used on the last save and should not be resaved if possible.

How To Flip Text On A Path In Illustrator
Adobe Illustrator is a great graphic design program to use when you want to create editable vector graphics. A vector graphic can be scaled up without losing any detail, so you can make an illustration, including typography, that will look as good on a billboard as a business card.
Imagine creating a round badge or logo, and you want to type text around a circular path. You might want the text at the bottom of the circle to flip to the opposite side of the path, so it’s easily legible. In this Illustrator tutorial, we’ll teach you how to flip text on a path in Illustrator, so the text isn’t upside down.
Table of Contents
How to Flip Type on a Path in IllustratorWhether using Adobe Illustrator CC or an earlier version of Illustrator, a path is simply one (or more!) straight or curved lines. A path can be open or closed, depending on whether the endpoints are joined together.
We’ll start with a simple circle design. We’ll create a circular path, and then we’ll use the type tool to type text along that path. Finally, we’ll flip some of the text, so it appears right side up along the bottom of the circle.
Select the Ellipse tool.
Hold down the Shift key and draw a circle on the canvas. Holding the Shift key will force the ellipse you create into a perfect circle. Any stroke or fill color will disappear once you add text.
In the Type Tool flyout menu, choose the Type on a Path Tool.
Enter the text you want at the top of the circle.
You’ll see three handles (also called alignment brackets) near the text: one to the left, one in the middle, and one on the right. Use these handles to rotate the text around the circle until it’s right where you want it.
In the Layers panel, turn off the visibility of the bottom layer.
Select the Type Tool, select the text on the path, and type the new text—the text you’ll move to the bottom of the circle path.
Note: For the Align to Path options, choosing Baseline will put the text right on the path. Ascender puts the text on the outside of the circle. Descender will locate the text on the inside of the circle. Lastly, Center will place the text right at the center of the path.
Next, turn the visibility of the top layer of text back on.
That’s how you add and flip text on a path in Adobe Illustrator.
Insert a Symbol in Your DesignAn easy way to add an extra element or two to a design in Adobe Illustrator is to insert something from the Symbols panel. Follow the steps below to add a symbol to your design.
Use the Symbols Library dropdown arrow to view a list of all the libraries installed on your computer. Select one of them to launch a panel where you can use navigation arrows to page through each Symbols library.
When you find a symbol you want to use, drag and drop it into your design.
Use the Selection Tool to resize the symbol to fit your design.
And if you’re beginning to use Adobe Indesign, you’ll want to check out our tutorials on how to link text boxes or flow text around an image.
How To Create Gold Text Effect In Photoshop
Photoshop has so many features to make your work stand out. You can mix and match so that you can create unique artwork. This article will teach you how to give boring text a golden look using Photoshop’s layer styles. There are so many Photoshop tips, tricks, and features that can be shared, so do come back to learn more.
How to create Gold Text Effect in PhotoshopCreating gold text effects with Photoshop can be used for logos and artwork for a variety of works. The gold text effect can be used for a jewelry company’s logo. The gold text effect is created using Photoshop’s layer styles. This is using a combination of different layer styles to achieve the desired effect. The steps involved are:
Prepare the Canvas and the Text
Apply Layer Effects
Apply Finishing Touches
Save
1] Prepare the Canvas and the TextThe first step is to open Photoshop and create a new file. Go to File then New or press Ctrl + N on your keyboard.
Gold will shine better on a black background so change the canvas color to black. To change the background to black go to Edit then Fill or press Ctrl + F5.
In the Fill, Dialogue box Contents section set Use option to Black then press OK.
Choose the Horizontal Type Tool from the Tools panel on the left.
Choose the font that you want to turn to Gold. Go to the menu bar at the top and choose the font from the drop-down menu. Choose the Font, make it Bold and choose size 72, this is the biggest size that can be chosen but it can always be resized after it is written.
Set the value of R, G, and B to 255, each. This will make the text white. Confirm the information in the color picker by pressing Ok. Set the text color to white so it is visible against the black background.
To resize the text, go to Edit then Free Transform or press Ctrl + T. in Photoshop CC just hold any of the corner handles and drag to the desired size. In Photoshop CS6 or earlier, press Ctrl + Shift while you hold the corner handle and drag to the desired size. In Photoshop CS6 Ctrl + Shift will cause the text to resize evenly without distorting. In Photoshop CC, the proportions are automatically constrained so no need to hold any keys.
To center the text, hold it and drag it to the center of the canvas. Press Enter to close Free Transform.
A copy of the text will appear above the original in the Layers Panel. Both texts should be in the same spot on the canvas so that they will look like one.
2] Apply Layer EffectsTo create the gold effect a gradient overlay will have to be added. The reason for the gradient is because it is a variation of colors, to get the gold effect, there needs to be a variation of colors, lights, and shadows.
In the Layers Effect menu choose Gradient Overlay.
In the Layer Style Dialogue box, change the Style of the gradient to Reflected, This will move the darker gold color to the top and the bottom of the text, with the lighter color in the middle.
Text with reflected gradient style.
In the Structure Section set Style to Inner Bevel and Technique to Chisel Hard.
Set the Angle to 1200. Turn on the Anti-aliased option to smooth any jagged edges.
To add more contrast to the effect, increase the Highlight Opacity and the Shadow Opacity to 75%.
Close up the space inside the letters by increasing the Size of the Bevel and Emboss effect, to make the text look more like solid gold.
To enhance the lighting and add more contrast to the reflection in the letters, increase the Depth Value by dragging the slider to the right. You can also place the cursor in the Depth value box and use the up or down arrow on the keyboard to increase or decrease the number. You can watch the changes in the lighting and contrast of the text.
The text is now starting to look like real gold.
Reset Inner Glow settings to default to clear any previous settings.
Change the Blend Mode to Multiply and the Opacity to 50%.
Change the Position of the gradient to Outside. Change the gradient Style to Reflected.
The text with the Original Text layer with a golden stroke.
Shadow Opacity: 75%
These are all the Bevel & Emboss settings that should be there. If not just change them.
In the Bevel & Emboss option there is also a Contour option, turn on the Contour option.
This is the text with all the outer glow effects added.
3] Apply Finishing TouchesA new layer name SPARKLES is added above the text layer.
To add the sparkle to the gold, you will need to use one of Photoshop’s brushes. Go to the Tools panel on the left and choose the Brush Tool.
Choose Assorted Brushes from the dropdown menu.
You can choose to lower the opacity of the sparkles if they are too bright, but that is optional. If you want to lower the opacity, go to the Layers Panel, and use the opacity slider to lower the opacity.
4] SaveAfter all that hard work it is now time to save. To get the full effect of the gold in the best possible colors, a raster image is the best option for saving. Assuming that the image will not be made very large. You could save it as a JPEG image so that it is both small and will look quite shiny. However, I would save it as a PNG to eliminate the white background that will show when it is opened. With the background being only black, the gold effect will shine even more.
To save go to File then Save As or Shift + Ctrl + S.

Why is learning to Make Gold Text Important?Learning to make gold text is essential because you can use the same principles to make other color text effects. This can be a helpful skill in making other artwork for logos, print, etc. The steps used to make the text have a golden color can be used to make other objects gold or silver, or any other color with sparkles.
Can These Steps be Used to Make Silver Text? The principles are the same, you just need to find something that is silver so that you can sample the color to use. To get accurate colors for your artwork, you should get real examples of items and take Pictures or find them on the internet and use Photoshop to sample the colors and save them as color swatches for later use.
Remember that items do have reflections and shadows, so try to get realistic samples and sample the different aspects of the colors of the items to make your artwork look more realistic.
Why is Save for Web Different from Save As?Save for Web has a lot of options that will make saving the artwork optimized for use on the web. You can preview the image on a webpage and even inspect it on the webpage to see the code. If you create web pages, you can copy this code to use on the webpage. There are multiple file formats in the Save for Web option, and they are optimized for use on the web. You can make more changes to get it to fit your purpose.
How can I Get Accurate Colors for Objects in the Artwork I Create? You can get accurate colors for your artwork by creating your color swatches. Get samples of items you want to work with that you want accurate colors, and sample them to create swatches. You can also search for colors online, usually close to what you want.
However, getting the real item will show how the colors show when the light hits them. You can get the item, take a high-resolution picture, and get it on your computer. You can then use photoshop to take samples of the colors of different parts of the picture that represents different lighting. You can use these color swatches to get realistic color and lighting effects when you create your artwork.
How To Make 3D Vector Globe In Illustrator
Knowing how to create a 3D vector globe in Illustrator can be very rewarding. Globes sometimes play a big part in logos, branding, and other artwork for companies and individuals alike. With the tools and features available, anyone can use Illustrator to achieve their goals. There are so many ways to create the same artwork, so no one method is exclusive.
How to make 3D Vector Globe in IllustratorThere are many ways to create 3D vector globes but as long as you and your client are satisfied with the result it is ok. The way that this article will show you is super easy, and anyone can follow. There will be two 3D vector globes demonstrated here, they are easy to follow and recreate.
Decide on the purpose
Go to Illustrator
Vector globe with horizontal lines
Vector globe with horizontal and vertical lines
1] Decide on the purposeThe purpose of the globe will decide on the look and color that is used. The purpose will decide the color and the size of the canvas. The globe may be a small part of a bigger project, for example, the globe may be used to fill in the letter O in a word logo. The globe may also be the base for a logo so it will need to be larger. Make sketches of the whole project and where the globe will fit. Decide on the type of globe that you want, is it the globe with horizontal lines or the globe with horizontal and vertical lines? Decide if the globe will be for screen only, print only, or a mix of both, this will help to decide the resolution that you will choose when creating the new document. For display on screens, only a resolution of 72 ppi is ok. For print, you would need to have a resolution of 300 ppi. The use of the globe will also decide the color mode whether CMYK or RGB. CMYK is best for print and has fewer color options, it is not as bright as RGB. RGB is best for display on screens. Screens usually have a wide range of colors that can be displayed so RGB color mode is best.
2] Go to IllustratorOpen Illustrator and create a new file for the globe. Since the globe is a circle, the canvas can be made to be a square. However. If you decide to design more artwork that will include the globe, it will decide on the orientation and the size of the canvas.
While in Illustrator go to File then New and a New document dialogue window will open. In the new document dialogue box, you will choose the options that you want. For this project, the globe is the only thing that will be created, the Width is 1200 px, the Height 1200 px, the Color mode is CMYK, and the resolution is 300 ppi. You can use any values that you want basing on your needs. Remember that this will be a vector image so stretching or shrinking it will not affect the quality. There is just one thing that you need to do after it is finished and that will be discussed later in the article. When you have finished choosing the options, press Ok to confirm or Cancel to close the window. you will see the canvas appear based on the options chosen. As mentioned before two globes will be designed to show you how they are done. The first will be the globe with only horizontal likes then the other will be the globe with horizontal and vertical lines.
3] Vector globe with Horizontal linesThis globe will use horizontal lines so draw the rectangle wider horizontally and narrower vertically. Make the rectangle any color, gradient, or pattern you want. Here is the one that will be used for this globe. The colors can be changed when the globe is finished so you can leave them black if you so choose. Note also that you do not have to make the rectangles large, they can be normal size. They will be made to fit whatever size your globe is.
You should have something like this. Don’t worry if it looks slightly different, your rectangles may be narrower or have less space. But you can adjust as needed or leave it as is.
When you drag them into the Symbols pallet a window will appear asking you to name the symbols. You can give them a name or just press ok. You will see the rectangles appear in the symbols pallet. Note that those symbols will only be available in the document they were created in. If you open a new document. You will not see them there. The rectangles will remain on the screen so you can just drag them off the canvas to make space for you to work. Don’t delete them as they can be used for the next globe.
The 3D Revolve options window will appear. look to the bottom of the window and press Preview so you can see changes on the half circle in real-time. When you press the preview button you will see the circle complete with a 3D look.
This is what it looks like after exiting the 3D options window.
This is the globe, it has been colored to show the different sections.
The globe is two in one, which is what helps with the 3D effect. They can be kept together as it is shown above or they can be separated and one can be deleted or used for something else.
4] Vector globe with horizontal and vertical linesThis second globe is just a demonstration that this principle can be used to make a whole lot of other designs. You can experiment with making the lines go in any direction and the outcome would look different.
You would follow all the steps above for the globe with the horizontal lines, what would be different is the fact the rectangle strips would be placed in the form of a grid. You can achieve this grid by following the steps above and making the rectangle strips horizontally, do the first one then copy and paste the second one then use Ctrl + D to duplicate as many as you need.
This is what the grid will look like when the process is finished.
With the grid completed, you would follow all the steps above for the previous globe to complete this new globe.
The new globe will come out looking almost like the first one. The only difference is that the new globe has vertical and horizontal lines. The option for various designs is only limited by your imagination.
You can pull apart the globe and you will see the two separate parts.
This is the globe with both parts together and some gradient added. The piece at the back should be given a different and darker gradient than the front so that the 3D effect can be created. They will still look 3D when they are apart as shown above.
Both globe designs are great for logos, branding, and other artwork for personal or professional use. Look closely at them and see if you have seen these designs or similar logos or branding for real companies.
Vector graphics are very handy because they do not distort when they are stretched or shrunk. However when you create art in Illustrator there is an important step to take to keep the art from changing when you stretch or shrink it. You need to select the artwork and go to Object then Path then Outline stroke.

Creating clothes takes a lot of time and imagination, especially when you are trying to make something special. Of course, no matter how great the fabric and how well you sow them, the most important part is actually the designing phase.
While this was something you could do using pen and paper in the old days, now that everything is digital, software that can make this task far easier is flooding the market.
However, the journey between the image that you have in your head and the actual drawing board is incredibly tedious, let alone seeing the clothes in real-life.
Since the lack of imagination is also something that is quite common, one great way to simplify the process is to use and follow templates, and then expand from there using your own unique touch.
Unfortunately, this is is easier said than done, since finding a good template cand be hard enough, let alone find plenty of good templates in one place.
The good news for you is that there is a way you can get your hand on a wide range of templates, and they are all found in one single software tool: Adobe Illustrator
How can I use clothing design templates in Illustrator? What is Adobe Illustrator?Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editing tool created and distributed by Adobe.
The first iterations of Adobe Illustrator began somewhere in Adobe Illustrator 1985, and it has slowly grown to become of the most recognizable and widespread graphic editors in the world.

How to use templates in Illustrator?
Choose File and select New From Template.
Choose File and go to New.
Don’t forget to also install any plug-in or template that you plan on using for your clothing design.
These steps apply to pretty much any type of project you are working on using Adobe Illustrator, regardless of whether we are talking about clothes, business cards, logos, etc.
Given the present scenario, what makes Adobe Illustrator great is not necessarily the toolset that it brings, but rather the fact that it comes with an extremely expanded library of tools and templates at its disposal.
These allow for Adobe Illustrator to be used in designing pretty much anything, and that is just with the templates provided by Adobe itself.
However, plug-ins created by both Adobe and users can help Illustrator expand its use even more.
For example, there are plenty of templates that can allow you to create clothing more easily.
These include either the typical fabric patters that you can use to see how a given piece of clothing would look like when made from a certain material or even templates of clothes that are almost completed, and you need to do is add your own personal touch to them.
That being said, if you want to design some fine-looking clothes without too much of a headache, you might as well follow some templates as a starting point, and let your imagination run wild from there.
While other programs may help you do that, Adobe Illustrator is among the very few that offer all the tools that you may ever need, plus a library of templates that will leave you in awe.

1] Choose TextPhotoshop offers a lot of text options as default, and you can download more. When you are going to change the text to shape, choose your desired text carefully. You will not be able to make certain changes to the text after it is converted. To help make the process easier, it is best to choose a text that is as close as possible to what you want the result to be. For example, if you want a stencil look as a part of the final result, it would be easier to choose text that already has a stencil look, and not to try to make one. Therefore it is important to plan what you want and make sketches on paper of the result you expect. Make as many sketches as it will take to get you to one that you like.
2] Prepare TextIt is important to prepare the text properly as there will be changes that you will be unable to make once the text is converted to an shape. Choose the correct text, and make changes to the weight. Choose the Font Family, the Font Style, and the Anti-aliasing Method, if all of those apply to the font. Some fonts may not offer a font style option. As stated previously, choose a text that is as close as possible to what you would want the results to be. This will make the manipulation easier after you have converted the text to a shape.
Write the text on the canvas and make the changes and move on to the conversion step.
Go to the left panel and choose the Type tool that is best for your project, whether the Horizontal Type Tool or the Vertical Type Tool. Long press the T icon to make the Type Tools pop out so that you can choose the one you want.
When you are finished choosing all that you can type the text you want to convert.
3] Convert TextSo you have chosen your text and you have made whatever changes you deem necessary so now it is on to the fun part. It is now time to turn the text into an shape so that you can manipulate each letter to make the design you want.
The Fill Color, Fill Pattern and Stroke Option can now be changed from the Fill swatch and Stroke options on the left of the top menu bar. Photoshop now sees the texts as a shape. You can make further changes according to your project’s requirements. I will make a few changes just to show what can be done with this text.
Text with a rusty looking gradient fill and a stroke.
This is the text that has been changed to a shape. It is used to make a fancy logo. Notice that the W has an overhang on the top of the C.
Logo with the overhang at the top of the C removed. With the text converted to shape, the Direct Selection Tool can be used to distort the different letters separately.
Another way to get rid of the extra would be to rasterize the shape then use one of the tools to cut or erase it. However, rasterizing the image will make it unable to be edited as separate letters. The whole image will become one flat shape.
This is just one example of what you can do with the text that has been converted into a shape with Photoshop.
4] SaveTo save the finished product so that it is editable go to File then Save as then choose to save as a Photoshop PSD.
You can save an extra copy for printing, sharing, or using on the web. Go to File, Save As and then choose the File Format to be JPEG, TIFF, PNG or any of the other formats available.

Why not Write Each letter Separate then Manipulate Them? That is a way that the logo or artwork could be done, however, when lighting and color schemes like gradients are to be done, each letter will look different. There will be no cohesiveness and they will all look different. To get them to look like one work, it would take a lot of time to design them. Making them one text and then converting them to shape makes it easier to make them look like one. The gradient lighting and shadows will all match.
Is it Possible to Print from Photoshop? It is possible to print from Photoshop. Go to File then Print. A dialogue box will appear, make whatever necessary changes there then press Print. Printing from Photoshop can be good because it will save you time. After all, you will not have to save the document as a separate file to print.
