An interview with successful technology sales innovator, Bryan Frankel, Sales Director at LANSA

LANSA is the original low-code, rapid application development platform for building enterprise-grade mobile, web and desktop apps. Bryan is responsible for sales in North America, as well as Business Development Reps globally.

What TechTarget products are you using? What are you trying to achieve? How is your sales team using Priority Engine? How is Priority Engine set up for your organization?

Priority Engine enables our Business Development Reps and Account Executives to have more intelligent conversations, with the right people at the right time. We have Priority Engine set up with lists built out based on the rep’s territories.

Our BDRs in North America and EMEA use Priority Engine to look for net new prospects. They will go into Priority Engine very often and are utilizing the insights to find new ways to engage. Priority Engine provides my BDRs with the ability to see into accounts and find the people we normally we wouldn’t have the visibility into.

Priority Engine is an essential tool for us because our customers base split between cutting edge technology and much older technology. We have the ability to set up our lists based on these groups, and then take those contacts and put them into different outreach cadences. With Priority Engine, we’re able to serve our diverse, niche, customer types and have a much more focused way to deliver a personalized message.

Once we reach out, we have set cadences. We adhere to 2 – 2.5-week periods of making phone calls and emails with a targeted message based on the insights we discovered within Priority Engine. After our sales reps’ cadences, the prospects will fall back into the marketing nurture cadence. We do export our Priority Engine lists into Eloqua, and this data flows into Salesforce.

How is Priority Engine helping LANSA see success and generate more opportunities? What type of results are you seeing?

With Priority Engine, our Account Executives can build new opportunities and generate more meetings, using the insights to personalize conversations. They go into Priority Engine, drill into their account, get the contact information and directly call them and can quickly build a rapport and credibility leveraging the insights. They have been able to expand their footprint and secure relationships with their accounts, as well as fight off competitors.

What is your favorite thing about Priority Engine?  Which components are most valuable to your sales team?

Priority Engine’s ability to provide us with a focused list of prospects has been extremely helpful. I also love that we have the ability to segment by the different niche customer types that we have.

Priority Engine, in conjunction with content syndication, has been a big hitter for us. It’s great to be able to see who is looking at your content, while also being able to get insights. If anyone is considering TechTarget, I highly recommend you give them a go. Our sales team has had so much success using Priority Engine that other divisions in our company are coming to me to see what I’m doing that is working so well.

How has it been working with the TechTarget team? How have they made things easy for you and your team?

One of the best things about TechTarget is the service. My account team is amazing. I’ve never had another partner go to the extent to which they go to help us see success. Their service has gone way beyond anything else I’ve ever experienced before. In one instance, they helped one of my reps with his territory and trained him on how to best leverage the information and insights within Priority Engine. A few months later, he had a healthy pipeline. The team has been invaluable, especially when you work in a lean model like we do.

A big thank you to Bryan for sharing some feedback with us. We look forward to hearing about more of your success in the future!

If you’re interested in sharing your TechTarget story with us, feel free to reach out to Sarah Geissler.

How To Define And Build A Powerful Brand

Tip

Register and trademark your brand name to protect your brand’s growth and your business’s intellectual property.

2. Why do you exist?

As a business, you want to make a profit. However, why you exist must go beyond money. Customers want to know what you believe and if it’s something they also believe.

Why your business exists is as important to your messaging as who you are. Review your company’s mission statement and ensure your branding is consistent with its message. If you don’t yet have one, define your business’s tangible values and establish a company mission. A mission statement defines your cause and purpose; it should suffuse your brand and every communication.

A few years ago, the author Simon Sinek gave a TED Talk in which he explained that people don’t buy what you do; they buy why you do it. For example, megabrands like Apple don’t sell anything other companies couldn’t provide. Instead, they sell a belief. Apple’s message, Sinek said, is “We believe in thinking differently.” This resonates on a deeper level than “We sell great computers that are easy to use.”

What does your company believe? Your brand should convey that to a target audience that believes the same.

3. Who is your target market?

Everyone can’t be your target customer. When identifying your target market, be specific. Take the following steps:

Determine your target market’s demographics. Look at your target market’s demographics. Who do you see buying your product? Go beyond age to consider who will pay for your product or service.

Look at your competitors’ customers. Research brands similar to yours to see who they’re selling to. Do you want to go after a share of that target market or a different business niche?

Brainstorm descriptors for your target market. Descriptive words can help you understand your target audience, even if you don’t use them in branding materials. For example, do you see your target market as athletic? Are they readers? Do they pay attention to sourcing and want natural products? Are they nonprofit organizations, retailers, or consumers? What kind? Don’t be afraid to use your imagination.

Look for your natural customers. Be realistic about who you’re looking to attract. Most of all, consider who your most natural customers might be. Who are the people already seeking the solutions you’re selling?

Essential elements of creating your brand

When you know who you are, why your product exists, and who your target market is, it’s time to create your brand. Every choice you make when presenting your brand to the world — photos, images, sounds and words — should reflect the same essence and identity.

Consider the following essential elements:

Choose your brand name. First up is finding the perfect business name. If you don’t already have one, give your company a name that reflects who your business is and why it exists.

Develop a brand logo. Your brand name will inform how you create the corporate logo — the visual image that instantly identifies your company or product in the marketplace. Your logo goes on every communication your company sends out, so shop it around to people who will tell you the truth. How does it make them feel? What does it tell them about your brand? What tweaks could better convey your identity? Your logo is your brand’s icon, and it’s costly and difficult to change after it hits the market.

Develop a marketing aesthetic. Your marketing aesthetic includes your logo and all marketing materials, including your website design and social media presence. Consider an aesthetic that best depicts your company, including a color palette. Use research that explains how color and hue affect consumers as a guide. Colors, logos and other design elements all say something about your company. Ensure you’re sending the right message.

Choose platforms that suit your brand. How you market your business, including its social media platforms, will convey information about your brand. Using TikTok for business can be a boon if your target audience is active on TikTok. Opt for Instagram for business if your customers primarily use Instagram. Your customers may span multiple social media platforms, and if so, you can tailor your messages for each platform. Your brand won’t change, but you can subtly alter your messages, language, images and sounds to be appropriate for each platform.

Tip

Sound branding can also boost brand recognition and sales. For example, consider a sonic logo like Netflix, soundscapes in a retail or restaurant location, and music in any business environment.

What if you need a rebrand?

For a company to remain agile, it must evolve and adapt to new realities, including new offerings, methods and audiences. Sometimes, evolving means rethinking your brand identity.

You may need to rebrand your business for the following reasons:

The marketplace has changed.

Your product line has evolved.

You want to introduce a new offering.

A leadership change has shifted the company’s philosophy.

Your product appeals to a different audience than you first thought.

Your brand is outdated.

When rebranding is your best option, go back to the original questions that shaped your brand and answer them again to identify what has changed:

Who are you now?

Why do you exist now?

Who is your target audience now?

Here are some tips for rebranding:

Salvage what worked for your brand in its original incarnation. Dig into your company’s past experience. Look at sales reports and successful marketing campaigns. Can you integrate successful practices into your rebrand?

Examine your competitors. Do another deep dive into your competition. Are they staying relevant? Have they changed their messaging or image? Do their positive customer reviews give you insight into what your market wants? Do their negative customer reviews offer insights for your improvement?

Stay honest with your company and customers. Be honest with yourself, your team and your customers while rebranding. Ensure everyone understands why you’re refreshing your image. Never make new promises with your rebrand that you can’t keep.

Risks of rebranding

Rebranding can come with the following risks:

Rebranding is expensive. You must remake every element of your brand, including your business cards, ad copy, website, business blog, social media accounts, newsletters and any other materials your brand uses. You’ll have to rethink your content strategy and pay graphic designers, content developers, web designers and other professionals to recreate materials.

Rebranding can confuse customers. A rebrand can cause confusion and uncertainty among existing customers. It’s imperative to communicate with them and let them know what they can still expect from your brand and what will change. Tell them why you’re making the change, and be positive. For example, “We feel that a fresh look is compatible with our evolving business” inspires more confidence than “Our sales are flagging, so we’re giving this a try.”

Key Takeaway

Customer loyalty is a crucial asset. Don’t lose loyal customers by springing a new brand on them without communicating.

Why the right branding is worth the trouble

Branding can require significant effort and expense. But when you understand how to create a brand identity and invest in determining the right strategy, you’ll save yourself time, work and money in the long run. You’ll have already made fundamental choices about how to present your company.

Your brand reflects your company’s mission and purpose. That goes a long way toward helping you communicate with your customers concisely and consistently so they’ll be able to recognize your brand instantly.

FYI: learn how to extract audio clips from your videos.

Frequently Asked Questions How can I make my transcriptions more accurate?

First, get rid of any background noise. Move to a quiet place before transcribing your files, or utilize a microphone with noise-canceling technology built into it. Background noises are the primary reason for inaccurate transcription results.

Secondly, opt for a transcription program (paid or free) with a real-time conversion option. The feature lets you edit the text as you go, making it easier to revise the final results rather than go through a lengthy text looking for tiny typos.

How can I transcribe audio files to text using Python?

While Python is not the most convenient way to convert audio files to text, a tech-savvy user can still use it. There are quite a few ways to create a transcription program in Python, but below is the most straightforward approach:

Copy the following program text to Python:

import speech_recognition as sr

from os import path

from pydub import AudioSegment

convert mp3 file to wav

sound = AudioSegment.from_mp3(“transcript.mp3”)

sound.export(“transcript.wav”, format=”wav”)

transcribe audio file

AUDIO_FILE = “transcript.wav”

use the audio file as the audio source

r = sr.Recognizer()

with sr.AudioFile(AUDIO_FILE) as source:

audio = r.record(source) # read the entire audio file

print(“Transcription: ” + r.recognize_google(audio)

Save the program as “transcribe.py.”

Run the software you created, then “Upload” an audio file to convert it to text.

What’s the safest way to store audio Information?

The safest and often most convenient way to store audio information is to transcribe it into text. Accordingly, text files consume less storage and are less prone to corruption and software glitches, making them even more convenient to back up. This makes audio file transcription the safest method to save, edit and review your meetings, voice notes, interviews, audiobooks, and podcasts.

How To Install Unreal Engine On Mac

Unreal Engine is a free 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Epic Games. It has been used in a variety of games and has seen adoption by other industries, most notably the film and television industry. If you are playing games from Epic store, you might need the Unreal Engine on your system. This guide walks you through the process of installing Unreal Engine on your Mac.

Prerequisite

Before downloading and installing Unreal Engine, ensure that you have enough available storage on your Mac, as the application size is quite big. You should have at least 40GB free for the application. You’ll also need to install Xcode, as it is a necessity for running Unreal Engine.

Tip: learn how to find out how much storage you’ll need on your Mac.

Download Xcode

To run Unreal Engine, you’ll need to have Xcode downloaded on your Mac:

Open the App Store on your Mac and search for Xcode.

How to Install Unreal Engine

With Xcode downloaded, follow the instructions below to download Unreal Engine.

Head to the Epic Games website, and register for an account.

Download the Epic Games Launcher for your Mac.

Open the installer, and drag the Epic Games Launcher into your “Applications” folder when prompted.

While downloading Unreal Engine, you’ll have the option to install multiple versions. Whether you need to depends on your device and individual requirements. This may take a while.

Launch Unreal Engine.

Note: Now that you have Unreal Engine installed, it may take a while to get familiar with it and learn the software. It’s important to free up additional space to export your games or projects. For example, smaller games can use between 50GB and 100GB storage.

Unreal Engine and Apple Silicon

Unreal Engine version 5.2 supports Apple silicon computers, resulting in quicker and more efficient native performance. This is primarily due to the implementation of Universal Binary. Unreal Engine contains executable code for both Intel and Mac architectures. Without that, you would have been dependent on Apple’s Rosetta 2 Emulator to translate the code.

Additional plugins and downloadable object scans are readily available from the Epic Games launcher marketplace. This is also the place to download additional updates to the engine or return to a previous version of the software.

Good to know: curious whether the other apps on your Mac are optimized for Apple silicon? Visit our guide to learn more.

Frequently Asked Questions What other 3D software is available to Mac developers?

Some of the leading applications in this field include Blender, Maya, and Nuke, which are all widely used in motion picture industries. However, in recent years, there have been some new contenders on the scene – most notably Unity, which is said to be easier to use and better for games of a smaller scale.

What can I achieve with Unreal Engine?

Unreal Engine is designed for both creatives and 3D developers. It’s currently being utilized in the motion picture industry and the video game industry. Some of the leading visual artists working on Hollywood blockbusters and next-generation console video games use Unreal Engine to build their worlds. The software also offers a platform for creating 3D objects and selling them as downloadable files, which is becoming increasingly useful in the field of industrial engineering. This added feature makes it drastically easier for new developers to start building.

How often is Unreal Engine updated?

Unreal Engine is constantly updated. The latest version is Unreal Engine 5.02, which includes support for macOS Ventura. With Epic Games having such a dedicated team and loyal community, it’s no surprise that there are consistent changes made to the engine. You’ll be notified within Epic Games Launcher as soon as there is an update. You can also download multiple versions of the engine to your computer, for situations when you wish to return to a previous version.

How To Build Links To Pages Where Links Are Hard To Build

This week for Ask An SEO, we have a question from Anand in India who asks:

How do I build links for my services pages or product pages? It’s hard to build links for those pages (like via a guest post). Any suggestions?

Link building is hard.

That’s how it should be.

Real estate on the first page of the major search engines is scarce.

There are most likely more than 10 websites competing for customers in your niche – and they can’t all be on the first page.

Just as in life, in the game of SEO, there are winners and there are losers.

If you want to be a winner, you need to understand not only how to build links – but how the algorithms in the major search engines take links into account when deciding where to rank a site.

A High Tide Raises All Boats

There are some that will disagree with this assertion – but in my experience, the concept of domain authority is real.

The term “domain authority” was coined by the industry site chúng tôi but has become common nomenclature in the SEO world.

Many SEO professionals cringe when the term domain authority is used, because the metric is not really a ranking factor in Google’s algorithm.

But I believe the concept is correct.

The concept of domain authority asserts that when you build links to any page in a specific domain, other pages within the domain benefit.

But here’s the rub – the benefits are not universal, and in many cases, defy my capacity to predict.

But if you build links to pages within your domain, you should see a lift on your product and services pages.

Don’t Forget Internal Link Building

Internal link building – the process of ensuring that the links within the confines of your own site are optimal – is one of the most overlooked aspects of SEO.

There is no excuse for failing to implement an internal link building program.

Unlike external link building, you control every aspect of the internal link building process.

You don’t have to hope that a webmaster will add a link to your product or service page.

You have the ability to create an internal linking structure that will help boost your search engine visibility.

In many cases, a stellar internal link building campaign may be enough to push your product or service page to the top of the search engine results (depending upon competition and many other factors).

I’m not going to go into the ins-and-outs of internal link building in this article.

But if internal link building isn’t in your arsenal – I recommend you do some research.

It’s one of the most powerful assets an SEO has for pages where its difficult to build external links.

Creativity & Link Building Go Hand-In-Hand

I’m personally not a fan of any automated link building techniques.

In fact, I’m going to go so far as to say if you are reading about a unique link-building technique, that technique is probably already overplayed and not as effective as it once was.

When everyone jumps on a link building tactic bandwagon, it becomes abused, and in most cases less effective.

Sometimes the decline in effectiveness is algorithmically from Google.

But more often, the technique loses its effectiveness because those who are providing the links get tired of the same pitches over and over again.

That’s where we are with traditional guest posting right now.

Personally, for just my agency site, I receive an average of 4-5 guest posting requests per day.

Most of these requests are generic, with no clear benefit to me other than free content that is most likely not appropriate for my site.

But I’m not going to talk about how to effectively do guest posting, because that’s not a creative way to build links to a product or service page.

As I said earlier, building links is hard.

But if you can get creative, and create real relationships with the right people, you can be effective in building links to product and service pages.

Look for people who write about items related to your products or services and suggest a story where a link to your product makes sense.

Make sure to subscribe to HARO (Help a Reporter Out) and read it every day, looking for opportunities to pitch your products.

Find sites that are offering reviews, gift lists, or product comparisons, and then pitch your products.

There are just a few ideas – I’m sure you can get more creative than me.

Link building is hard, but if it wasn’t, everyone would have top rankings.

Get creative, and don’t be everyone else, and you can build links to any page with a little (or a lot) of extra effort.

How To Convert Text To Shape In Photoshop

Photoshop is a wonderful graphic software that has a host of useful features. Converting Text to shape in Photoshop is a great feature for making great artwork. Converting text to shape allows for the text to be manipulated just like a shape. There may be challenges to finding unique texts that you like so manipulating one may be the next best option.

How to convert Text to Shape in Photoshop

Converting text to shape can be a great way to create logos or branding symbols. Creating logos will require some uniqueness to the artwork. Being able to turn text to shape and manipulate each letter is a great way to create unique artwork for logos and brands. Gone are the days when you had to use hand drawing to create unique writing. Photoshop allows you to create unique artwork for your projects.

Choose Text

Prepare Text

Convert Text

Save

1] Choose Text

Photoshop offers a lot of text options as default, and you can download more. When you are going to change the text to shape, choose your desired text carefully. You will not be able to make certain changes to the text after it is converted. To help make the process easier, it is best to choose a text that is as close as possible to what you want the result to be. For example, if you want a stencil look as a part of the final result, it would be easier to choose text that already has a stencil look, and not to try to make one. Therefore it is important to plan what you want and make sketches on paper of the result you expect. Make as many sketches as it will take to get you to one that you like.

2] Prepare Text

It is important to prepare the text properly as there will be changes that you will be unable to make once the text is converted to an shape. Choose the correct text, and make changes to the weight. Choose the Font Family, the Font Style, and the Anti-aliasing Method, if all of those apply to the font. Some fonts may not offer a font style option. As stated previously, choose a text that is as close as possible to what you would want the results to be. This will make the manipulation easier after you have converted the text to a shape.

Write the text on the canvas and make the changes and move on to the conversion step.

Go to the left panel and choose the Type tool that is best for your project, whether the Horizontal Type Tool or the Vertical Type Tool. Long press the T icon to make the Type Tools pop out so that you can choose the one you want.

When you are finished choosing all that you can type the text you want to convert.

3] Convert Text

So you have chosen your text and you have made whatever changes you deem necessary so now it is on to the fun part. It is now time to turn the text into an shape so that you can manipulate each letter to make the design you want.

The Fill Color, Fill Pattern and Stroke Option can now be changed from the Fill swatch and Stroke options on the left of the top menu bar.  Photoshop now sees the texts as a shape. You can make further changes according to your project’s requirements. I will make a few changes just to show what can be done with this text.

Text with a rusty looking gradient fill and a stroke.

This is the text that has been changed to a shape. It is used to make a fancy logo. Notice that the W has an overhang on the top of the C.

Logo with the overhang at the top of the C removed. With the text converted to shape, the Direct Selection Tool can be used to distort the different letters separately.

Another way to get rid of the extra would be to rasterize the shape then use one of the tools to cut or erase it. However, rasterizing the image will make it unable to be edited as separate letters. The whole image will become one flat shape.

This is just one example of what you can do with the text that has been converted into a shape with Photoshop.

4] Save

To save the finished product so that it is editable go to File then Save as then choose to save as a Photoshop PSD.

You can save an extra copy for printing, sharing, or using on the web. Go to File, Save As and then choose the File Format to be JPEG, TIFF, PNG or any of the other formats available.

These tips and tricks can save you time and give your designs a unique quality and look. Nothing that you learn will be wasted because it adds to the knowledge that you can use to do better work. You will also start to discover new tricks of your own as you learn new design principles.

Why not Write Each letter Separate then Manipulate Them?

That is a way that the logo or artwork could be done, however, when lighting and color schemes like gradients are to be done, each letter will look different. There will be no cohesiveness and they will all look different. To get them to look like one work, it would take a lot of time to design them. Making them one text and then converting them to shape makes it easier to make them look like one. The gradient lighting and shadows will all match.

Is it Possible to Print from Photoshop?

It is possible to print from Photoshop. Go to File then Print. A dialogue box will appear, make whatever necessary changes there then press Print.
