If you were nostalgic for playing a new version of the first The Witcher game, know that CD Projekt Red is already working on a female for this title.

The Witcher (2007) Remake, also known as Project Canis Majoris, is already under development by

Fool’s Theory in collaboration with CD Projekt Red.

The companies are also working on Project Polaris, which will kickstart a brand new Witcher games saga, based on the legacy of Geralt of Rivia.

We know for sure that fans of The Witcher saga will delight in hearing what we are about to say. CD Projekt Red still has big plans for the franchise and we are in store for a ton of goodies.

Earlier this month, the company actually revealed it has multiple projects in the works for The Witcher and Cyberpunk franchises, but no exact details were given.

Today, however, one of the mystery games was officially revealed to be a remake of the original The Witcher action RPG from back in 2007.

Project Polaris and Canis Majoris are in the works

No exact details were shared, but Project Polaris is the codename given to the first game in this fresh trilogy made by CD Projekt Red.

It is actually described as a story-driven open-world RPG built on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, so it definitely promises to be good.

Being that Project Polaris is still early in development, it will be some time before fans will get to re-enter the monster-filled universe.

However, CD Projekt Red plans a relatively quick release schedule for the rest of the series once the first game is out.

The full trilogy has a tight six-year release plan attached to it, and Unreal Engine 5 will be powering them, so just try and imagine the results.

Now, circling back to The Witcher remake, other than a title card, there is no trailer nor even any screenshots attached to the announcement, unfortunately, as development is still in its early stages.

The Witcher Remake is what you might know by the codename Canis Majoris, according to the CD Projekt Red company.

It’s still early and we want to ensure that the game is created with the utmost care and attention to detail, therefore, while we’re excited to share the news with you, we want to ask you for patience as it will be a while until we start talking about this project in detail.

Note that the only piece of information regarding the project shared by the company was that Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 will be what’s powering it.

Thus, the three brand-new Witcher games CD Projekt RED is currently planning out are also Unreal Engine 5-powered, with the main studio’s redENGINE getting the axe for future projects.

You should also know that The Witcher Remake (Project Canis Majoris) is being developed by Polish studio Fool’s Theory, with CD Projekt RED said to be providing full creative supervision.

In case you didn’t already know, Fool’s Theory has previously worked on games such as Divinity: Original Sin 2 and Baldur’s Gate 3 as a support studio, and also touts a leadership team that was involved with The Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 The Wild Hunt‘s development.

As you would have expected, no platforms nor a release window has been shared for The Witcher remake yet, just like for the upcoming new Witcher trilogy that’s also under development.

How To Install Unreal Engine On Mac

Unreal Engine is a free 3D computer graphics game engine developed by Epic Games. It has been used in a variety of games and has seen adoption by other industries, most notably the film and television industry. Prerequisite

Oneplus 5 Vs Galaxy S8: Will The Underdog Win?

Samsung has been in the smartphone game for ages and compared to that, OnePlus is a new kid on the block. In terms of infrastructure and resources, OnePlus still lags a lot behind the Korean electronics giant. But, OnePlus has instead, put in all of its efforts onto a single flagship per year. The Chinese OEM focuses on delivering a unique product without having to compromise on other areas.

Samsung, on the other hand, has a lot of freedom and resources to cater to all sorts of audience. And it is obviously their flagship, Galaxy S8, which has gotten a ton of care and attention while Samsung designed it.

Straight of the bat, the Galaxy S8 wins this round, no question about that. With this year’s flagship, a part of the highlight went into the large 5.8-inch QuadHD display. Well, if you haven’t already seen the device, it has a near bezel-less front with an 83% screen to body ratio.

Both devices have AMOLED displays so in that aspect they are pretty well off. Though the OnePlus 5 may have a more straight forward approach in designing the device, the company is more about delivering the right software experience than it is about aesthetics.

RAM

With 8GB RAM, the OnePlus 5 is clearly better than the Galaxy S8 with 4GB of RAM. To be honest, 4GB is plenty of RAM to go about your daily tasks. But in case you happen to be a power user, the presence of 6/8GB RAM would find a good amount of use. Games and VR related content are expected to make use of the larger amount of RAM. All the same, the Galaxy S8 Plus has a 6GB RAM option.

Processor

Both the Galaxy S8 and the OnePlus 5 are powered by the Snapdragon 835 SoC but the former smartphone is also powered by the octa-core Exynos 8895 chipset. Benchmarks may reveal a difference, albeit in numbers only. Real world performance for day-to-day usage can be expected to be the same.

Storage

Storage options start at 64GB and max out at 128GB for the OnePlus 5 whereas the Galaxy S8 only comes in the 64GB variant. The S8 Plus, on the other hand, carries 128GB of on board storage with the 6GB RAM option. OnePlus’s flagship handset, the OnePlus 5 sports UFS 2.1 based storage which puts it on par with the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus (which also have the same storage solution).

Cameras

Coming to the camera or cameras for the OnePlus 5, for now, the Galaxy S8 has the upper hand. This is simply because of its history with magnificent camera performance over the years. Though OnePlus’ camera tech isn’t the best out there, this time the company has paid a lot more attention to the dual camera on its upcoming flagship.

Battery

The Galaxy S8 features a 3000mAh battery pack which can help you get through the day. But then again, that’s barely enough for the user given that the S8 packs in quite a lot of pixels. The S8 Plus has a slightly larger battery at 3500mAh. And it is in between these two devices is OnePlus 5 with a 3300mAh battery.

Conclusion

At the moment, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus have more favor with the crowd. But this is mainly due to the fact that we haven’t seen the OnePlus 5 in person yet. The Samsung flagships have a lot going on too, with the integration of the Bixby assistant and lots of other interesting features.

The OnePlus 5 will be entering territory dominated by the likes of Samsung, Apple, and other OEMs. But at the same time, the company has pushed through this feat for more than three years and has also earned a faithful customer base.

Our only gripe is the 1080p display which went on till the OnePlus 3T. This along with wireless charging are the new additions that people demand for the OnePlus 5.

The Search Engine Journal Redesign – The Developer’s Story

It was an honor being called upon to do the redesign and development of Search Engine Journal.  I have been apart of this network for a short time but I have quickly learned what an amazing community this site has.

Loren Baker approached me about the redesign a few months ago.  I was excited to take on the job and I know what a pleasure it is to work with Loren and the rest of the Search & Social crew.

Blog Design 101

As with any site design or redesign I started by sitting down with the client and discussing their needs.  The most important thing to grasp in this meeting isn’t necessarily a list of items the client wants but rather to get a feel of what they want to accomplish.  Take this opportunity to figure out their goals and more importantly how they will measure the success of those goals.

With blogs the goals are usually one of two things, either increase traffic and subscribers or increase ad revenue.  Search Engine Journal has a strong following and is definitely an authority in the industry. My design would have far less impact on subscribers and traffic at this point because of SEJ’s continued success. My goal at this point was to restructure the site to give the user a better experience while maintaining or increasing ad revenue.

Wire Frames

Especially with blog design I encourage my students and others to start with wire frames.  Wire frames do not have to be the traditional hand drawn lines outlining the layout.  They can be anything you want them to be.  My goal with wire frames is to outline specific site functionality and layout.

At this point it’s good to limit your thoughts on design and focus on how the site will function for a user.  Making sure specific elements live above the fold, that subscribe buttons are clear and easy to find and that any other functionality the client requests has a home and is easy to use is the goal.

Take a look at these wire frames used for SEJ.  As you can see it formulates the basic existing layout you see today.  There of course were some minor changes and tweaks as we went along.  However the basic layout and functionality was carefully planned and agreed upon through these wire frames.

The Design

Once the client signs off on the wire frames you are now able to get to work on the design.  This is the most fun for me.  Here you can really turn your thoughts and ideas in to reality.  I love playing with fonts and colors to try and find the right fit for everything.  To me, it’s very gratifying when you send off the design for approval.

Below you can see the different phases and changes that were made to the site.  You may notice that the design phase did not have a lot of back and forth.  I attribute this to planning and management of expectations. Your first meeting with a client all the way up to the completion of the wire frames you’re building a blueprint of what your client will be expecting at the end.  These steps will make your work flow smoother and help your client to understand why we do things the way we do.

Tips and Tricks For Development

After the design was finished and we were ready to move on to development I did the following to make my life easier and the development process faster.

With any blog redesign it’s good to install the blogging software (wordpress) onto another server and export the data from the original blog to your new install.  This gives you free reign to test and play without worrying about hurting the live site.

About a year ago I started implementing a css framework or reset to help with the coding my css.  I’ve tried out a few but my favorite so far is Yahoo’s YUI.  The use of a css reset sheet will greatly reduce the complications with cross browser compatibility and help you to remember to write cleaner more efficient code.

Don’t be afraid to share your dev link with the client while you’re working.  If you have a client who helicopters over the development phase you may get a few emails like asking “why isn’t this working” or “you know the logo is supposed to be on the left not the right” but if you can grin and bear it through those you’ll find it’ll help you in the long run.  Your client is going to spend more time on the site (especially during the weeks leading up to its new live date) than you are. They’ll find something wrong before it’s too late too turn back.  Too often we can over look the minor details our clients see as very important and if we wait too long sometimes it’s really difficult to go back and undo the mistake.

Fighting the Norm

Take a look at many of the more popular sites out there these days.  One thing you’ll find in common for most of them is that the site is not wider than about 950px.  This is because a vast majority of people are still using the common 1024×768 screen resolution and we all know that horizontal scrolling can sometimes spell disaster.

However there are a great deal of individuals who are using better screen resolutions.  In fact as many as 60% are using at least 1200×1024 (2009 numbers) seen here. Am I recommending that you increase your design width to these resolutions? Umm… no, not yet anyway.  Two reasons why, 1 you don’t want to be putting too much on the screen, it’ll over stimulate the user and 2 because we don’t want to hide important elements from users that wouldn’t otherwise see it.

The reason we did this was because it’s no loss to the user if they are using 1024×768.  They don’t miss out on important information and they don’t have to scroll for vital elements like subscribing or searching.

The Internal Combustion Engine Is Not Dead

With all the focus on hybrids and electric cars, you might assume that the internal combustion (IC) engine was headed for extinction. Yet more than 99 percent of the world’s new cars still use one. That includes conventional hybrids, whose batteries and electric motors derive their energy entirely from gasoline. Even those automakers who are most bullish on alternative energy say that the IC engine will remain their primary propulsion system for decades.

And that’s not necessarily bad news. Some IC powerplants achieve near-zero emissions of pollution-generating compounds (they will still emit carbon dioxide), while others can generate 600 horsepower more efficiently than ever. As governments begin regulating CO2 emissions, the latest trend sees automakers downsizing engines without losing the power and smoothness that drivers expect. Here, three intriguing approaches that will reach showrooms around the globe in the coming years.

Turbocharger

Powered by hot exhaust, a turbine spins a pump, compressing air and feeding it into the cylinders.

VW Twincharger

Cons: Mechanical complexity; tiny engines are a hard sell in the U.S. market

Superchargers and turbochargers are like steroids for IC engines, forcing pressurized air into cylinders to boost power and efficiency. More air allows more fuel to be added, creating bonus horsepower without requiring a bigger engine and more cylinders. For decades, these “forced-induction” technologies had been an either-or proposition—you could turbocharge the engine or you could supercharge it, but you couldn’t do both. Then Volkswagen created the first mass-produced engine that uses both to squeeze the most power out of the least engine: the Twincharger 1.4 TSI.

The supercharger, whose air compressor is driven by a belt attached to the engine, can boost power even at the extremely low engine speeds where a turbocharger—whose turbine is driven by a car’s spent exhaust gases—can’t generate useful thrust. But on the Twincharger, as engine speeds climb into the turbo’s sweet spot, the supercharger lets the turbo take over. Making the constant handoff between turbo- and supercharger undetectable to the driver was the Twincharger’s challenge, requiring the kind of complex computer engine controls that didn’t exist even a few years ago.

The 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivers up to 172 horsepower, more than many engines that are 50 percent bigger. Yet the Twincharger still manages close to 45 miles per gallon on the highway in European models like the Golf hatchback.

With Americans spoiled by relatively cheap gasoline, VW doesn’t see a big Twincharger market here for now. But that could change with the next big spike in gas prices, says Stuart Johnson, who manages VW’s engineering and environmental office. The company is also developing a Jetta Hybrid that mates a turbocharged engine with an electric motor and battery pack, which it could bring to the U.S. market by 2012.

A Diesel-Like Engine Without the Diesel Pollution Homogeneous Charge Compression Engine

ETA: Second Half of this Decade

Diesel engines are efficient in part because of the high energy density of the fuel. Just compress air and a squirt of diesel in the engine cylinder, and it auto-ignites with no spark. But diesel requires pricey new emissions gear to scrub pollutants from the exhaust gases. Now comes a powerplant that works like a diesel engine but runs on cleaner gasoline. Called the homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine, it offers about 15 percent better mileage than a conventional gas engine.

ETA: Late next year, Europe only

Hybrids are especially suited to city driving, where their electric motors are efficient in slowpoke traffic. Diesel’s fuel economy shines on the highway. Now Mercedes will combine both in the world’s first production diesel hybrid. The E 300 BlueTec Hybrid sedan goes on sale in Europe late next year. Pairing an efficient 2.2-liter, 204-horsepower diesel with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery, this version of the E-Class sedan should get 58 miles per gallon. The E 300 BlueTec Hybrid emits about one third less CO2 than the typical new car. Alas, diesel and hybrid cars already cost more than gasoline models, so dropping both into a single car adds thousands of dollars to the cost of the car.

Here are the steps that can help you get started today.

1. Give Yourself Permission to Start

Remaking your physical environment is an exciting way to transform your teaching practice and your students’ learning experience. As with any new undertaking, sometimes the biggest barrier is knowing where to start. This is an opportunity to wear new hats as an educator — so take a moment to rethink your role. Channel the optimism of a designer, the resourcefulness of a hacker, and the playfulness of a maker. Before we began the design process with Steve, we shared some of our inspirations to help prime his creative mindset.

2. Discover Your Context

After giving yourself the permission to playfully begin, it’s time to discover. We suggest that this discovery process is both reflective and collaborative. With Steve, our team conducted several interviews, took a classroom tour, facilitated a full-day student workshop, and held three in-class observations with a variety of collaborators. Without this context, we would not have been able to generate authentic design questions. What are some simple ways you can start?

Reflect on the status quo: Grab a pen and post-its. Reflect on your school day through the lens of space. What are your key routines and activities? What other areas of practice are you focusing on this year? When are classroom successes amplified or challenges exacerbated by your physical environment?

Engage your students: Talk to your students about their learning styles, the culture of your classroom, and impressions of their environment. When you invite students to discover with you, you gain critical insights and empathy for their learning experiences.

Invite critical friends: Whether you simply invite a colleague to observe you in your classroom or actively create a renegade maker group, outside perspectives can uncover powerful design opportunities.

3. Identify Design Opportunities

Your role in the discovery process is to reveal patterns and opportunities around which to design solutions. This process of articulation in itself can be transformative. At every meal and at the end of each day, we would set aside critical time to debrief on our observations, insights and ideas for Steve’s classroom. While not shown in this video, many of Steve’s learning moments came from this daily process of reflection and critical conversation.

Identify design priorities and spatial targets: It is important to narrow down your long list of areas you’d like to transform and bias yourself. For Steve, we identified three priorities:We remixed these priorities alongside various spatial focuses (teaching zone to storage to student furniture), developed powerful design questions, and brainstormed solutions.

Amplify what works: You are probably doing a lot of hacking in your class without even knowing it. How can you refine and expand what is already working? Steve set a great tone for his classroom, so much of what we chose to display on his walls helped convey his philosophy and resources more clearly.

Tackle what doesn’t work: Identify your biggest gap. That alone can ease the burden of your class experience. For Steve, the front teacher space was laden with small “frictions” that impacted class management and everyday routine — it was ripe for redesign.

4. Seek Inspiration and Ideas

Inspiration can be found in the everyday “thoughtless acts” of design or seeking direct inspiration from experts, friends and resources. With clear design opportunities defined, capturing ideas, precedents and analogous experiences will push you closer to creative solutions.

Capture inspiration: Document inspiring precedents in a way that is most natural for you, whether it is a Pinterest board of clever ideas, sketchbooks of magazine clippings, or a wall of post-its. Whether it was looking to a DJ’s setup to inspire a teaching station or at Steve’s own travel photography collection, looking beyond was important to our creative research.

Hold a solution session: Mix up your personal planning by hosting a collaborative brainstorm session with critical friends. With Steve, we held a 90-minute “solution session” to help organize learning priorities and spatial focuses around design questions. Armed with a timer, sticky notes, sharpies and plenty of space, we let creativity flow.

Narrow your solutions: During this phase, excitement around ideas can easily become paralyzing. Create a list of quick-win projects and bigger obstacles to tackle over time. We had Steve use small stickers to help “vote” for the most promising concepts out of 150+ ideas.

5. Implement with Impact

With clear priorities identified, your next step is making it all happen.

Make a plan: It sounds simple, but making a plan that outlines primary projects and breaks them into key tasks, supply lists and other resources makes your project more actionable. We also recommend creating target dates for your implementation to help you plan backward. Your timeframe will depend on how intensive your changes are.

Rally support: Whether it is a skilled local carpenter donating time or the helping hands of friends scrubbing your room, classroom transformations don’t have to happen alone. Map your social network to identify the talents and skills that you can tap into. And don’t be afraid to ask for help.

Make it a reality: With a compelling story and a specific ask, the crowd can be a generous source of in-kind and monetary support. Whether you use old-fashioned donation letters, Amazon registries or social media, let friends know what in-kind support you need. Read Suzie Boss’ blog about navigating crowdfunding for classrooms.

6. Evolve and Share What Works

Your room is filled with prototypes big and small. Now what? See what happens, share your story, and tinker and refine your re-designs.

Evaluate and iterate: Make room for personal reflection, continued observation and feedback from your students, both formally and informally. Use this to power your refinements and next projects. Edutopia checked in with Steve to see what has worked and evolved in his space to fuel his personal iteration process.

Share: Talk about your redesign! When you share with colleagues, online communities, and leaders in your school, you fuel the larger conversation about the role of environments in learning experiences. Who knows, you might inspire a colleague across the country or have your prototype serve as the poster child for more sensitive capital investment.
