After launching new gaming laptops with AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs earlier this month, Asus has launched a bunch of new laptops with the latest AMD processors in India today. New Asus Laptops with AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs Asus ZenBook 13 OLED

The Asus ZenBook 13 OLED is the highest-end model amongst the latest launches. It features a 13.3-inch FHD OLED panel with a screen-to-body ratio of 88%. It weighs 1.11 kg and comes in a Pine Grey color option.

Under the hood, the laptop packs the latest AMD Ryzen 5 5500U CPU clocked at 2.1GHz or the Ryzen 7 5700U processor clocked at 1.8GHz, paired with integrated Radeon Graphics. The Ryzen 5 model comes with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB of SSD storage. While the higher-end Ryzen 7 variant comes with 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 1TB of SSD storage on board.

Asus VivoBook 15 and 17

Coming to the VivoBook series, Asus has upgraded the VivoBook 15 and 17 with the latest AMD Ryzen 5000 CPUs. So, the VivoBook 15 packs a 15.6-inch FHD LCD display.

AMD Ryzen Serie 7000: fecha de lanzamiento

AMD reveló los primeros procesadores Ryzen Serie 7000 el 29 de agosto de 2023. Fue una fecha que sorprendió a todos por producirse antes de lo previsto, pero que tiene sentido si tenemos en cuenta que no había CPU de equipos de sobremesa de la serie anterior Ryzen 6000, y ahora sí la hay.

Esos cuatro primeros chips de ordenadores de escritorio salieron a la venta el 27 de septiembre de 2023, pero eso fue solo el principio de la gama.

En la keynote de presentación del CES del 4 de enero de 2023, AMD desveló el grueso de su gama Ryzen Serie 7000. Eso incluía varias CPU de sobremesa más, así como las versiones sin la nueva 3D V-Cache. Todos ellos salieron a la venta el 10 de enero.

Es posible que observes cuatro nuevas CPU que terminan en “3D”, que añaden más caché L2 y L3 que las versiones normales. Con ello se pretende mejorar la capacidad de respuesta y la velocidad de fotogramas sin afectar significativamente a la velocidad de reloj ni al overclocking.

Todas las nuevas CPU de equipos de sobremesa se basan en la última arquitectura Zen 4 de AMD y son compatibles con las placas base AM5 existentes, siempre que se lleve a cabo la actualización de la BIOS.

Otras características clave de todos los nuevos procesadores son la compatibilidad con PCIe Gen 5 y la memoria tipo DDR5 (se ha prescindido de DDR4).

AMD

Dentro de cada CPU de sobremesa Ryzen 7000, encontrarás tres chips: dos módulos de CPU Zen 4 de 5 nm y un nuevo chip de E/S de 6 nm con gráficos RDNA 2 integrados, además de controladores DDR5 y PCIe 5.0 y gestión de energía integrada.

Esto significa que cada chip dispone de cierto nivel de potencia gráfica, y que sólo será necesaria una tarjeta gráfica independiente para juegos u otras cargas de trabajo mucho más exigentes.

CPUs para portátiles

AMD presentó sus primeras CPU Ryzen Serie 7000 para portátiles en septiembre de 2023. Conocidas como “Mendocino”, la serie Ryzen 7020 está diseñada específicamente para portátiles de uso más elemental y ofrece opciones tanto para los chips Athlon básicos, como para los procesadores Ryzen 3 y 5 normales:

Ryzen 5 7520U – 4 núcleos, 8 subprocesos, velocidad máxima de reloj de 4,3 GHz, 6 Mb de caché, TDP de 8-15 W

Ryzen 3 7320U – 4 núcleos, 8 subprocesos, velocidad máxima de reloj de 4,1 GHz, caché de 6 Mb, TDP de 8-15 W

Athlon Gold 7220U – 2 núcleos, 4 subprocesos, velocidad máxima de reloj de 3,7 GHz, caché de 5 Mp, TDP de 8-15 W

Los tres se basan en versiones mejoradas de la arquitectura Zen 2 y utilizan el proceso de 6 nm en lugar de mejorar a los 5 nm.

AMD destaca sus ventajas para garantizar una mayor autonomía en los portátiles, con hasta 12 horas de uso. Sin embargo, eso dependerá de diversos factores, como la capacidad de la batería, el tamaño de la pantalla, el brillo y mucho más.

Se combina con los últimos gráficos integrados Radeon 610M, que según AMD pueden ofrecer juegos a 720p a más de 60 fps. También es compatible con hasta cuatro pantallas y memoria RAM DDR5.

En comparación con el Core i3-1115G4 de 11ª generación de Intel, AMD afirma que el nuevo Ryzen 3 7320U es hasta un 80 % más rápido en compresión de archivos, hasta un 57 % más rápido en multitarea, y hasta un 31 % más rápido en “productividad ofimática”, escenarios que son importantes para mucha gente.

Supuestamente, también se puede esperar hasta un 31 % más de velocidad en el inicio de aplicaciones. Pero no hay comparaciones directas con las generaciones más recientes de su principal competidor, las correspondientes a Intel Core 12 y Core 13.

Fué en la pasada edición de CES 2023 donde vimos la mayor parte de las nuevas CPU anunciadas. Éstas se dividen en las series Ryzen 7030 (portátiles ligeros y delgados), Ryzen 7035 (portátiles ligeros y delgados de gama alta), Ryzen 7040 (portátiles ultradelgados de élite) y Ryzen 7045 (portátiles para creadores y jugadores extremos).

Como es lógico, AMD desea llamar la atención con la serie Ryzen 7045 de gama alta, toda una novedad este año. Conocida como “Gama Dragón”, está diseñada para integrarse en los portátiles más potentes que puedas comprar y es capaz de mover con soltura juegos AAA o casi cualquier otra carga de trabajo exigente.

Está encabezado por el Ryzen 9-7945X, que cuenta con 16 núcleos de rendimiento y 32 subprocesos. El Core i9-13980HX equivalente de Intel tiene un total de 24 núcleos, pero 16 de ellos son de eficiencia. Teniendo esto en cuenta, AMD afirma que puede ofrecer hasta un 78 % más de rendimiento en Cinebench.

Las series 7040 y 7035 son menos interesantes, ya que sólo ofrecen 8 núcleos y 16 subprocesos, pero es probable que lleguen a las configuraciones de portátiles de gama alta a la que los consumidores no prestarán demasiada atención. En cualquier caso, conviene reiterar que esta última utiliza la arquitectura Zen 3+ en lugar de la posterior Zen 4.

Muchas de las nuevas CPU para portátiles de gama alta están diseñadas para emparejarse con GPU discretas. AMD lanzó cuatro de la serie RX 7000. Sin embargo, no hay sucesoras para todas las RX 6000, que siguen aguantando bien.

Las CPU Ryzen Serie 7040U que son de las últimas en llegar se basan en Zen 4, pero están un escalón por debajo de los procesadores para portátiles más potentes de la gama. How To Dual Boot Asus Transformer With Ubuntu

I got myself a Asus Transformer tablet in June 2011 and since then, I have been looking for an easy way to install Ubuntu on it. The form factor, the keyboard dock and the hardware spec of Asus transformer make it just right for a portable computer. However, back then, getting Ubuntu on board the device is not easy and requires lot of hacking and scripting.

Recently, I re-checked the XDA-Developers forum again and found that someone has created a super-easy way to create a dualboot system. I tried it and it works! Here’s what I did:.

Disclaimer: This tutorial will format your tablet hard disk and wipe out all your data. It could also brick your tablet. It would definitely void your warranty. MakeTechEasier will not be held responsible for any damage, data loss, fire or death of a loved one resulting from using this mod for your device.

2. This tutorial only works for Asus Transformer with SBKv1. If your device is running SBKv2. This tutorial is not for you. Here’s how to check if your device is running SBKv1 or SBKv2.

Download sbkcheck.tar

Extract the tar file. Open a terminal and cd to the sbkcheck folder

Put your Asus Transformer to APX mode. To do that, first power off the device. Power on the device again. When you see the Asus EeePad splash screen, press the “Power + Vol up” buttons. When the screen goes black, and remain black, you are in APX mode. Once it is in APX mode, connect the device, via USB to your computer

Back in the terminal, run the command:

sudo

.

/

sbkcheck

It should return a message whether your device is running SBKv1 or SBKv2. As a general guide, if you bought your Asus Transformer after Aug 2011, most probably it is running SBKv2.

3. The Asus Transformer mentioned in this article is the 1st gen Asus Transformer, not the quad-core Transformer Prime.

Backing up your data

There are a few ways to backup your data. You can either:

1. download a file manager app from market. Use the file manager to transfer important files to the external SD card.

2. Sync your emails, contacts, calendar, files with Google and Dropbox. Even if your device is wiped, your data is still intact in the cloud.

Now that you have verify the SBK version and backed up your data, here the exact steps to create a dual-boot system:

1. Download OLiFE Prime.

2. Extract the file (DO NOT extract the files on a windows type filesystem such as NTFS or FAT or you will run into problems. Do it all inside your linux partition).

3. Open a terminal and cd to the OLiFE directory. Run

4. In the next screen, press ‘2’ to select the flash device option

5. Now, it will show you the different option to flash the device. Regardless what your intention is, choose ‘1’ to dualboot.

6. Choose ‘1’ to select the Android as the default OS. Ubuntu as the default doesn’t work.

7. Put your device in APX mode and connect it to the computer via USB. The script will now format your device, partition the hard drive and copy the ubuntu and Android img over. This will take a long time, so go grab yourself a coffee and relax.

8. Once it is done, your device will restart and boot into your Android OS.

Installing Ubuntu

Now that the chúng tôi is copied over to your device, it is time to install it.

1. Power off your device. Press “Power + Volume Down” button until the splash screen comes alive. At the top, you should see a message asking you to press the “Volume Up” button. Release the “Power + Volume Down” button and press “Volume Up” button. This will boot into the Ubuntu installer (this is also the way to boot into Ubuntu in the future).

2. Once you reach the Ubuntu main screen, proceed on to install Ubuntu (make sure your device is connected to the keyboard dock).

If you don’t have the keyboard dock, connect it to the computer via USB again. On your Linux computer, in the terminal, run the command:

3. Proceed with the Ubuntu installation. If everything goes well, you should have a dual OS tablet now.

Post install configuration

Everything works out of the box for Ubuntu on Asus Transformer, however, the Unity desktop is taking up a lot of resources, causing the system to run very slowly. What I did is to open the Ubuntu Software Center and install LXDE – a lightweight desktop manager. Once I switched to LXDE, everything runs smoothly and quickly.

Inject bluetooth firmware

The bluetooth firmware is not included in the Ubuntu installer due to licensing issue. Here’s how you can get bluetooth working on Ubuntu.

Connect the device to your computer again and run the OLiFE script. This time, press ‘4’ to select “Inject Firmware”.

Press ‘1’ to select the Default Install.

When prompted which firmware to inject, select either one will do.
