Suggested March 2024 Apple Announces Ios 17 With Journal, Standby, Facetime Voicemail, More

The release introduces major updates to communications apps, easier sharing with AirDrop, more intelligent text input, and new experiences with Journal and StandBy

“With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering. “Phone, FaceTime, and Messages are central to how we communicate, and this release is packed with updates we think our users are going to love. We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share, autocorrect gets even better, and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more. We can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

Major Upgrades to the Phone Experience

The Phone app is central to the iPhone experience, and it receives a big update with personalized Contact Posters, providing a new way for users to express themselves. Users can customize how they appear, bringing a completely new look to incoming calls, and choose beautiful treatments for photos or Memoji, as well as eye-catching typography and font colors. Contact Posters will also be available for third-party calling apps.

Live Voicemail gives users the ability to see real-time transcription as someone leaves a voicemail, and the opportunity to pick up while the caller is leaving their message. Calls identified as spam by carriers won’t appear as Live Voicemail, and will instead be instantly declined. With the power of the Neural Engine, Live Voicemail transcription is handled on-device and remains entirely private.

FaceTime now supports audio and video messages so when users call someone who is not available, they can share a message that can be enjoyed later.

FaceTime now supports voice and video messages so when users call someone who is not available, they can share a moment or message that can be enjoyed later.

In an exciting update to Apple TV 4K, FaceTime now extends to the biggest screen in the home. Powered by Continuity Camera, users can initiate a video call directly from Apple TV, or start the call on iPhone and then hand it off to Apple TV, to see friends and family on their television. With Center Stage, users will have perfect framing even as they move around the room.

A Fresh Look and Big Updates to Messages

Messages gets significant updates with iOS 17, including an all-new stickers experience with new emoji stickers and the ability to create Live Stickers by lifting subjects from photos. Users can also add effects to Live Stickers that bring them to life, and a new drawer in the keyboard puts all of a user’s stickers in one place for easier access across iOS.

An all-new stickers experience adds the ability to create Live Stickers by lifting subjects from photos, and users can add effects that will help bring the stickers to life.

New Messages features enhance the way users communicate. An expandable menu that can be accessed with a simple tap to display iMessage apps gives Messages a sleeker look. Search gets more powerful and precise with search filters, making it possible for users to start a search and add additional filters to narrow down the results and find exactly what they are seeking. A new catch-up arrow indicates where the user last left off in the conversation, and replying inline is as simple as swiping on a text bubble. If a user shares their location, it will update in real time right in the conversation. When sending an audio message, it’s transcribed automatically so users can read it in the moment or listen later.

Messages also introduces Check In, an important feature for when a user wants to notify a family member or friend that they have made it to their destination safely. After a user initiates a Check In, their friend or family member will automatically be notified as soon as the user arrives. If they are not making progress toward their destination, useful information will be temporarily shared with the selected contact, such as the device’s location, battery level, and cell service status. Any information shared is end-to-end encrypted.

AirDrop makes it easy to share a file with a colleague or send photos to a friend in seconds, and with iOS 17, AirDrop gets new ways to share. NameDrop allows users to easily share contact information by simply bringing their iPhones together, or by bringing an iPhone and Apple Watch together.1 With the same gesture, users can also share content or start SharePlay to listen to music, watch a movie, or play a game while in close proximity between iPhone devices.

StandBy Displays Glanceable Information While iPhone Is Charging

iOS 17 introduces StandBy, giving users a full-screen experience with glanceable information designed to be viewed from a distance when iPhone is on its side and charging. StandBy is perfect on a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk, and can be personalized to display a range of beautiful clock styles, favorite photos, or widgets, including Smart Stacks, which surface the right widgets at the right time. With support for Live Activities, Siri, incoming calls, and larger notifications, StandBy makes iPhone even more useful when viewed at a distance. When charging with MagSafe, StandBy remembers a user’s preferred view. It is easy to bring up StandBy anytime by tapping the screen, and on iPhone 14 Pro with the Always-On display, it is always available.

Apple Announces Event For November 10: ‘One More Thing’

It’s been rumored for quite some time, but now it’s finally officially official. Apple has just announced a new event for this month.

Apple has hosted a lot of media events this year, with the all-digital efforts showcasing all the new stuff the company is releasing this year. Just last month we had the iPhone 12 event, where Apple said “Hi, speed” and introduced the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Before that, September’s event gave us a brand new iPad Air and an eighth-generation iPad. Now, for November, it’s probably all about the Mac.

Apple told us all back in June that the company would launch its first Apple Silicon Mac before the end of 2023, and it looks like the company is going to keep to that time table. The company just announced another media event for Tuesday, November 10, 2023. The event will start at 10:00 AM PST/1:00 PM EST, and it will take place within Apple Park.

So, what’s possible at this November event?

Transitions! Apple Silicon Mac

The safe bet is the first Apple Silicon Mac, which Apple teased back at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference back in June. This Mac will be the official transition away from Intel, as Apple develops an ARM-based processor for its computer lineup for the first time. It’s the same strategy the company has used for devices like the iPhone and iPad.

With the transition to Apple Silicon, the company says the new Macs will be more power efficient and offer improved overall performance. That’s due to the integration of hardware and software, benefits that Apple reaps with the iPhone and its other products that follow the same strategy. This also means universal apps will be more accessible across platforms.

There has been plenty fo confusion and rumors regarding which Mac will be the first to introduce Apple Silicon to the market. Some have said it will be an iMac of some size. Others have suggested it will be a MacBook Air. Still, additional rumors have said Apple could bring back the 12-inch MacBook, and others believe a new MacBook Pro could be the first.

We don’t have long to wait to find out.

But wait, there could be more

There are other candidates for new product arrivals.

AirPods Studio

What about the oft-rumored over-ear headphones that Apple has been working on for quite some time, reportedly called AirPods Studio? These headphones have been rumored for quite some time now, and they were previously expected to be announced earlier this year. However, that obviously hasn’t happened yet.

So, it’s possible that Apple could launch its new over-ear headphones at this November event, too. These headphones are said to come in a couple different variants, and the price tag could start at $349. They will reportedly have a retro design, and they will have Apple’s Active Noise Cancellation feature as well.

One of the other new products that have been rumored for months now is AirTags. These Tile-like tracking devices are small and round in design, and meant to help you keep tabs on your products like an iPhone, a bag, your keys, and other products. When AirTags launch, it will rely on the Find My app to track the accessories.

Maybe more?

It’s possible Apple has other products to announce too, things that haven’t been rumored up to this point. That’s not as likely, but we don’t have long to wait to find out either way.

Are you looking forward to seeing what the first Apple Silicon Mac has to offer?

Apple Releases Ios 13.1: Share Eta In Maps, Siri Shortcuts Automations, And More

Late last week, Apple released iOS 13 to the public. However, that software version number was short lived, because now iOS 13.1 is ready for the spotlight.

Apple on Tuesday —as expected— officially launched iOS 13.1 to the public. This is the first major update to the iOS 13 platform, which, as mentioned at the start, only released to the public on September 19. This update isn’t bringing with it a ton of new features, as it primarily focuses on correcting a range of reported bugs since the launch of iOS 13 last week.

But here are the big new features Apple introduced last week with iOS 13, as we look ahead to iOS 13.1:

iOS 13 was a huge update for the mobile operating system, bringing with it a ton of new features like system-wide dark mode, a new swipe keyboard, and the ability to pair wireless Xbox One and PlayStation 4 controllers to your devices. However, some of the elements that Apple talked about earlier this year at its Worldwide Developers Conference weren’t included in that initial update, which means it’s iOS 13.1’s job to fill in the holes.

(Here’s a laundry list of the new features present in iOS 13 and iPadOS.)

iOS 13.1 will add Audio Sharing to supported devices. With this feature, users will be able to connect two pairs of AirPods to a single device and listen to the same media at the same time. This means you won’t have to split up a single pair of AirPods to share a listening experience.

What’s more, it’s also been confirmed that the Audio Sharing feature will expand to additional Beats-branded headphones equipped with the W1 and H1 chips with the launch of iOS 13.1.

The new Apple‑designed U1 chip uses Ultra Wideband technology for spatial awareness — allowing iPhone 11 to precisely locate other U1‑equipped Apple devices. Think GPS at the scale of your living room. So if you want to share a file with someone using AirDrop, just point your iPhone at theirs and they’ll be first on the list.

This new feature is tied to AirDrop for now, but will probably expand beyond that once Apple finally announces the oft-rumored Apple Tags tracking device. Right now, there is a new AirDrop interface in iOS 13.1, making it easier to just simply point a U1-equipped iPhone at another U1-equipped device and easily share content with them.

There are new HomeKit icons with iOS 13.1 as well, and speaking of AirPods there is a new dedicated icon for AirPods while adjusting volume.

Here are some subtle changes Apple made with iOS 13.1:

Apple Maps continues to improve, and iOS 13.1 leans into that trend by welcoming in the Share ETA feature. When you use Maps to navigate, you’re already given an estimated time of arrival, or ETA. With iOS 13, users will be able to send that information to family, friends, or coworkers, letting them know when they should expect you. And if your ETA changes because of a delay, it will automatically be updated so everyone stays informed.

In addition to that, Siri Shortcuts Automations are making their iOS debut with iOS 13.1. These will allow iOS users to quickly set up automatic Siri Shortcuts, all primed by a specific trigger. These Shortcuts can also work in the background. This can include multiple actions as well, as MacStories has outlined in an in-depth look at the new Siri Automations. Users will be able to have Siri handle a variety of tasks when they finish a workout, or a certain time of day rolls around, or when they reach a specific location.

MacStories also goes into an in-depth look at Conversational Shortcuts as well. This type of Siri interaction will see Siri getting a bit more active in the conversation when asked to do something, rather than just opening up an app like Shortcuts and leaving it up to the user to handle it all:

All of this is changing in iOS 13.1: if Siri hits a parameter that requires an interaction to be resolved, it’ll ask for your input before continuing with the execution of the shortcut. At a high level, this typically involves speaking a response or choosing from a list of options; both Shortcuts’ native actions and third-party actions will support conversational mode, which has been designed to allow for interactions on any Siri-capable device that can run shortcuts, including HomePod and Apple Watch.

Those are the big elements coming to iOS 13.1, which is now available as a free update. Are you excited about any of these big new features in iOS 13.1?

Standby Letter Of Credit (Sblc)

What is a Standby Letter of Credit?

The term “standby letter of credit” refers to the legal, financial instrument that promises timely payment to the seller if the buyer defaults. In other words, it acts as a safety net for international market exporters, ensuring on-time payment for various business transactions, especially shipment of goods.

Typically, a bank issues it to mitigate the risks associated with overseas payments in international trade.

Key Takeaways

Some of the key takeaways of the article are:

Banks issued a legal financial document to protect sellers against buyers’ default risk.

Although businesses utilize these credit instruments in both domestic and international trade, their prevalence is higher in international trade transactions.

There are mainly two types – financial and performance.

How Does a Standby Letter of Credit Work?

The seller is assured and remains uninvoked unless an undesirable incident occurs, such as the buyer defaulting on the payment or going bankrupt. In other words, the bank has to honor the price if the buyer defaults on it. Like any other credit facility, the bank charges a fee for the approved credit limit, which usually falls from 1% to 10%.

As far as the approval is concerned, it is akin to any other credit instrument. The issuing bank evaluates the applicant’s creditworthiness and then extends a standby letter of credit as a payment guarantee assuming full responsibility for the on-time payment to the seller. Nevertheless, both seller and buyer must fulfill the terms and conditions specified in the trade agreement to avail of the guarantee.

XYZ Inc. is a smartphone manufacturing company that purchased printed circuit boards worth $5,000,000 from ASD Inc., a circuit board manufacturing company. Since they had never had any business transactions, ASD Inc. wanted to protect itself and asked XYZ Inc. to furnish a standby letter of credit equivalent to the shipment value. Accordingly, XYZ Inc. went to its bank and got a standby letter of credit issued.

Later, ASD Inc. delivered the printed circuit boards to XYZ Inc. and offered them 30 days to make the entire payment. However, XYZ Inc. failed to make the payment on time. ASD Inc. contacted the issuing bank and asserted that it had not received payment for the shipment. Finally, ASD Inc. submitted all the necessary documents per the standby letter of credit agreement, and the bank paid the owed money. This is how it works in a real business scenario.

Types of Standby Letters of Credit

Based on the features requested by the buyer, it can take several different forms, as mentioned below.

1. Financial Standby Letter of Credit 2. Performance Standby Letter of Credit

This type usually secures a buyer’s interests. The buyer can incorporate specific performance clauses in terms of the agreement, such as shipping by a particular date. In such a scenario, the issuing bank will only release the standby letter of credit if the performance clause is adequately fulfilled.

How to Get a Standby Letter of Credit?

To get it, an applicant must follow the below-mentioned step-by-step guidance.

The buyer must request a bank or similar financial institution to issue a standby letter of credit in the seller’s favor.

The bank will then evaluate the buyer’s creditworthiness and decide whether to extend the guarantee.

It may ask the buyer to furnish a CIBIL rating and other details about their credit history. The bank may also ask the applicant to provide collateral in case of a significant transaction value.

If the bank is satisfied with the applicant’s credibility and the furnished documents, it may issue the letter in the seller’s favor. Conversely, if the bank is unsatisfied with the applicant’s financial position and doubts its capability to pay the money, it may reject the request.

It helps ensure that the buyer will pay the seller once it receives the shipped goods.

It adds credibility to the bids of small businesses and often helps them evade the need for upfront payment to the sellers.

If the buyer fails to pay within the stated timeline, the seller can request the issuing bank to pay on the buyer’s behalf.

The flow of documentation is very complicated

It is a reasonably new credit instrument, so its rules and regulations may not be specific and just.

How To Customize Font Weight On The Lock Screen On Ios 17

What to know

iOS 17 lets you change the font weight of the digital clock on your iPhone’s lock screen.

You can use the font-weight slider to make the clock’s font thinner or thicker than its original look.

At any point, you can revert to the original font weight by double-tapping on the font inside the lock screen’s customization screen.

What is font-weight customization on iOS 17?

With iOS 17, Apple is taking Lock Screen customization on iPhone a step further with the ability to change font weights for the digital clock. This feature can be used across most of the clock fonts you apply on the Lock Screen and can be used to make the clock thicker or thinner than its original size.

In addition to letting you change the font-weight manually, iOS 17 also allows you to reset the font thickness with ease and we’ll explain all of that in the upcoming sections.

How to customize font weight on the lock screen on iOS 17

Note: At the time of writing, iOS 17 is only available as a developer preview, so we suggest you wait for a beta or public release to avoid running into issues or bugs in the software.

To customize the font weight on your iOS lock screen, unlock your phone using Face ID but do not go to the home screen. For this, simply press the Side button, show your face to the iPhone, and let the Lock Screen get unlocked. Now, long-press anywhere on the unlocked lock screen.

When the lock screen goes into edit mode, tap on Customize at the bottom.

In the Customize Wallpaper screen that appears, tap on the Lock Screen preview on the left.

You’ll now see your iPhone’s lock screen in edit mode. Here, tap on the digital clock at the top.

A Font & Color menu should appear on the screen. In this menu, choose a font you want to apply or leave it as it may be if you want to adjust the font size of your current selection. You can choose any of the fonts available to adjust its weight except for the Rails font at the end. That’s because the Rails font only comes in one size and is made of two thin lines.

Once you choose a desired font to change its weight, you should see a slider below the font row. This slider is what helps you adjust the font weight on your lock screen.

Note: The font-weight slider only applies to the digital clock on the iPhone; it doesn’t change the size of text anywhere else on the lock screen.

You can move the slider to the right to increase the font weight or to the left to decrease it. The thickness of the font of the digital clock will change in real-time to help you find the desired size.

Once you’ve made up your mind on the font weight, you can tap on the X icon to close the Font & Color menu.

To apply the modified font-weight, tap on Done at the top right corner.

The newly set font weight will be applied to your lock screen.

How to reset font weight for lock screen clock on iOS 17

If you had changed the lock screen clock’s font weight to a custom size, you can always revert to the original weight by going to the lock screen’s edit mode. To do that, unlock your phone using Face ID without going to the home screen. Now, long-press anywhere on the unlocked lock screen to edit it.

Here, double-tap on the current clock font to reset its size to the original setting.

If you wish to apply a different font with its original font-weight, you can double-tap on the desired font to reset it.

Once you’ve reset the font weight, tap on the X icon to close the Font & Color menu.

To apply the modified font-weight, tap on Done at the top right corner.

The original font-weight will be applied on your lock screen.

That’s all you need to know about changing the font weight for the clock on the lock screen on iOS 17.
