Suggested January 2024 A Configuration Change Was Requested To Clear Tpm

Some of us may encounter this message when resetting Windows, “A configuration change was requested to clear this computer’s TPM.”

If you’re on a laptop, your keypad and trackpad might even freeze, stopping you from moving ahead with the reset process. And, if your using a device that supports touchscreen, the touchscreen feature stop working.

Majorly, this is caused when your PC cannot load the necessary drivers for controlling your input devices. This restricts all the input signals. So, you can’t use your hardware to choose either Yes or No.

Well, you do not need to scratch your head anymore. In this article, we have brought simple fixes you can carry to solve the problem.

Trusted Platform Module

A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a chip embedded into a motherboard for securing computer hardware components. Basically, it uses cryptographic keys to protect your PC from malware and firmware.

Well, the earlier versions of TPM didn’t support all the algorithms, providing weaker crypto agility. However, with the introduction of TPM 2.0, an additional security layer has been added to protect your system using a specialized digital signature feature.

Interestingly, you require TPM 2.0 when updating to Windows 11 so that you can run Windows Hello and BitLocker. Basically, these are the features necessary for identity and data protection in your system.

However, the TPM device may not be detected due to an outdated BIOS or damaged TPM chip. In such a case, you can try these fixes.

When you choose to reset your Windows, you get an option to either keep your files or remove everything. If you decide to remove all your files, you need to choose the second option.

Once you follow the on-screen process, you’ll likely get the message after waiting a couple of hours. Basically, this pop-up is asking you whether to clear TPM or not.

If your keyboard and touchpad work fine, you can directly choose Yes or No, using either of the hardware. Selecting Yes will delete all the keys you had created earlier. So, we recommend backing up your encrypted data before proceeding ahead.

However, choosing No means, you’re not giving access to clear TPM. When doing so, you might get this same message repeatedly, and the infinite loop continues.

So, it’s better to backup your encrypted keys or files before choosing Yes. But, if you’re not worried about these data, you can directly select Yes as the OS will re-initialize the TPM once the Windows reset is completed.

However, if you try clearing TPM, you might lose some important data. Thus, we suggest doing this at your own risk.

Indeed, selecting Yes or No is possible when your arrow keys are working fine. However, most users experience their input devices not working when this message pops up. So, if you’re one of them, here are seven different fixes you can try to resolve the problem.

Well, the Escape or the Esc key is generally used for canceling any running process. So, the first method is to try hitting this key to see if the message disappears.

Apart from that, the Esc key also acts as pressing No, meaning you can skip the request to clear TPM. This should solve your problem and continue the Windows reset.

However, many users have reported that the Esc key doesn’t function when the message pops up. Moreover, some have also faced an issue where pressing the Esc key brings back the same error message. So, it’s better to refer to other methods if this one doesn’t work for you.

If you want to clear TPM and solve this issue, we suggest pressing the F12 key. This simply acts as selecting Yes to clear TPM.

Moreover, most laptop manufacturers recommend pressing the F12 key if you see this error while resetting Windows. This is because it brings your frozen system back to life and continues the Windows reset.

Generally, using Esc and F12 keys should solve your TPM problem. However, in some laptop models, you should use Volume Up and Down keys to decide to clear TPM.

Also, if you have Windows running on touch-screen devices, like a tablet, you will need the volume buttons to fix the problem. You can press the volume up button to choose Yes and the volume down button to choose No.

Mostly, in touch-screen devices, plugging in an external keyboard or mouse can solve your issue.

Once you connect the input device, try to see if you can move your mouse cursor or use the keyboard arrow keys. Then, use either of them to choose Yes or No. Or, you can also press the F12 key from your keyboard.

Well, you can even try connecting an external input device to your laptop to check if this works for you. However, the possible chances are your keyboard or mouse won’t be supported while performing Windows reset. So, follow these general steps to fix the configuration error:

If you cannot resolve the configuration problem while performing the Windows reset, you must cancel it now. To do so, you need to long press the power button to shut it down and wait an hour to turn it back on.

Then, follow the simple guideline below to clear TPM from the TPM Management:

If your TPM driver is outdated, there’s a high probability you won’t be able to clear it. So, here’s how you can update the driver:

As we mentioned earlier, TPM is responsible for providing hardware securities. So, your final fix is to check for any hardware changes that have taken place. Here’s how you can do just that:

How To Clear All User Log Files On A Mac

Mac OS has an elaborate application level logging system that monitors and logs various system level and app level functionality, including app crashes, problems, and internal errors within apps. Most of this logging information is only relevant to debugging and developer usage and has little practical usage to the average Mac user, but when you submit a bug report for a crashed app these are the types of logs that are generally gathered and included in that crash report or bug report.

To be perfectly clear, these are not logs of user activity, or anything of the sort. These logs are almost entirely crash and error logs for particular apps. Despite what some third party utilities may claim, deleting user level logs is not a necessary task and nor should this be encouraged. Similar to clearing cache and cleaning temporary files on a Mac, there is no practical benefit to deleting logs for the average Mac user and the vast majority should not do so. If you simply want to view logs, opening the Console app is generally a better approach.

How to Clear User Logs from Mac OS

Don’t forget to back up your Mac before beginning. Do not skip backing up a Mac before removing any file.

From the Mac Finder, pull down the “Go” menu and choose “Go To Folder”

Enter the following directory path exactly, including the tilde:

Selectively choose the logs you want to inspect or delete, or alternatively you can select and trash them all

Empty the Trash as usual

It’s very rare for log files to expand to some unruly size or be a burden, so it’s unlikely that you will restore any meaningful disk space by deleting log files, which may take up a couple of megabytes or maybe even just kilobytes.

While removing and deleting log files has nearly no practical benefit, we get asked about this with some regularity. Some Mac users may trash their logs anyway perhaps as part of a series of manual cleaning tasks like clearing out caches and temporary files along with emptying web browser caches in Safari or in Chrome, rebooting, and as part of some general system maintenance. Maybe there is a placebo effect to the user with logs, but unlike rebooting and other system maintenance there really isn’t a benefit to this for most non-developers.

What are the User Log Files on Mac OS anyway?

As previously stated, most user log files are logs of app crashes or app errors. Many of the app errors that are logged will never even be apparent to the user, it’s just background activity in the application itself that may be failing or buggy or triggering some other error.

If you use Quick Look or TextEdit to view one of the log files you will find it contains mostly gibberish error messages that have no practical user value, here is an example of one such log:

As you can see almost all of this data is 100% irrelevant and meaningless to the average Mac user, it is mostly aimed at programmers and developers who are debugging their apps.

Is deleting logs going to speed up my Mac?

No, deleting logs will not speed up your Mac. I can think of only one example specific to Terminal app where it is sped up by removing specific system log files, and I have been using a Mac since the 1980s (yes, a virtual dinosaur). As mentioned repeatedly, there is virtually no practical benefit to the average user to delete user logs on a Mac.

Microsoft Explains Why You’ll Need A Tpm For Windows 11

Microsoft’s hardware requirements for Windows 11 have been undoubtedly confusing, with users questioning why they need both an 8th-gen Intel Core CPU and TPM functionality to upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft has attempted to answer the question.

Weston explained that Microsoft has helped push the PC platform forward from 2023’s secured-core PCs, which began combining hardware and firmware protections with virtualization. But Microsoft needs a more solid foundation for the future, and TPMs enable that, Weston wrote. All new Windows 11 PCs will ship with a TPM 2.0 inside, he said.

“PCs of the future need this modern hardware root-of-trust to help protect from both common and sophisticated attacks like ransomware and more sophisticated attacks from nation-states,” Weston wrote. “Requiring the TPM 2.0 elevates the standard for hardware security by requiring that built-in root-of-trust.”

In the future, Weston added, you’ll see PCs with the Pluton technology, which Microsoft co-developed with AMD, integrated into AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm CPUs for the PC. Pluton further integrates the TPM into the PC’s microprocessor, establishing a secured channel to Microsoft’s Azure cloud for secured Windows updates and firmware updates, too.

Making sense of the TPM and Windows 11

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a chip that is either integrated into your PC’s motherboard or added separately into the CPU, Weston explained. Its purpose is to help protect encryption keys, user credentials, and other sensitive data behind a hardware barrier so that malware and attackers can’t access or tamper with that data. TPMs can be discrete chips on a PC’s motherboard, but more recently they’re been directly integrated into the CPU itself as a logic block.

Knowing the differences between a TPM 1.0 chip and a TPM 2.0 chip aren’t really necessary for the enthusiast PC owner, but Microsoft points out several differences: TPM 2.0 supports more sophisticated cryptographic algorithms, provides a more standardized experience, and, most importantly, can be integrated into a CPU.

Microsoft’s upgrade process for Windows 11 has been confusing on several fronts. First, the requirements for upgrading haven’t been made clear. As ZDNet noted, there are actually two tiers of Windows 11 compatibility: a “soft floor” where a user’s PC includes a TPM 2.0, and a “hard floor” where the PC only has a TPM 1.0, a dual-core CPU, and 4GB of RAM.

Editor’s Note: Microsoft removed the “soft floor” mentioned earlier in this article. This means that the TPM 1.0 has been removed from the minimum requirements, and only TPM 2.0 PCs will be eligible for Windows 11.

Clearly, security is becoming more tightly integrated into PCs, with more sophisticated methods of combating malware. What we’re seeing is a clash between the ideology of the PC—that, essentially, it will run forever—and Microsoft’s contention that older hardware needs to be jettisoned for security’s sake. Microsoft certainly could have done a better job of preparing us for this shift, but at least those who can’t be upgraded to Windows 11 will be able to run Windows 10 until 2025.

One of the great things about Google Drive (GD) cloud storage is that it not only stores files but enables you to open (or preview) compatible formats.

However, some Google Drive users have stated that a “Whoops! There was a problem previewing this document” error message appears when they try to open files with the GD viewer.

Google Drive then displays a Download option for the file that doesn’t open. If you’ve encountered the same GD issue, here are a few potential resolutions for it.

Google Drive won’t preview document 1. Convert the File to a Compatible Google Drive Viewer Format

First, note that the Google Drive viewer is compatible with a relatively limited number of file formats. As such, it might be the case that you’re trying to open an incompatible file format in Google Drive.

You can, of course, open native Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms and Drawings formats in GD. However, GD doesn’t support that many third-party software file formats.

These are some of the audio, video, image, text, Adobe, and Microsoft Office formats you can open in Google Drive.

Audio: MP3, M4A, WAV and OGG

Microsoft Office: DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT, and PPTX

Text: TXT

Adobe: PDF, PSD and AI

However, you’ll need to utilize a file converter web app to convert image, video and audio files to compatible formats. Check out the chúng tôi app with which you can convert files to a variety of alternative formats.

2. Compress or Split Up the File

Note that Google Drive also has file size limits for documents and presentations. Thus, the GD viewer might not open documents and presentations that eclipse the file size restrictions. GD restricts Google Doc documents to 50 MB and  Slide presentation files to 100 MB.

Expert tip:

To compress files, check out the WeCompress web app. That web app compresses PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and PDF file formats.

3. Open Google Drive in Another Browser

You might find that Google Drive previews files ok in an alternative browser. So, open the file in Google Drive with another compatible browser. Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge, and Safari are four browsers that you can utilize GD in.

4. Update Your Browser

Note that Google Drive compatibility is also limited to the two most updated versions of its supported browsers.

5. Clear Your Browser’s Cache

First, press the Download button on the official website to save CCleaner’s setup wizard.

Open the setup wizard to install CCleaner.

Open CCleaner and select Cleaner on the left of its window.

Select the Internet Cache check box for your browser on the Windows or Applications tab.

Clearing corrupted browser caches can fix loading and formatting issues on sites. So it might also be worth clearing your browser cache when Google Drive doesn’t preview documents.

This is how you can clear caches for various browsers with the freeware CCleaner.

6. Switch Off Browser Extensions

The Google Drive file preview error might have something to do with browser extensions. To ensure that isn’t the case, switch off all your browser’s extensions. You can also disable extensions for various browsers with CCleaner.

7. Sign Out of your Google Drive Account

Some of the above resolutions will probably fix the “Whoops! There was a problem previewing this document” error. Aside from those resolutions, switching anti-virus software and firewalls off might also resolve the Google Drive file preview issue.

If you recently installed a security shield on your PC and the error started occurring after that, it is recommended to disable the security software. It could be an antivirus, adware removal tool, firewall software, app blocker, etc.

5] Unplug external devices

If you have plugged in multiple external devices, such as a USB drive, USB cable, external hard drive, Ethernet adapter, Wi-Fi adapter, etc., it is recommended to disconnect them all except the required one. There could be times when those devices might create a conflict while installing the operating system. If that happens, there is a chance of getting the aforementioned error message. How To Resize A Video Or Change Resolution

There are a lot of reasons why you might need to resize a video and in this post I’m going to mention a couple of freeware app that will help you easily change the resolution of your videos. If you have one of those 1080p 60fps HD video cameras, you understand the need for some serious conversion. With the introduction of 4K camcorders on the market, you’ll need a beast of a PC along with a 4K monitor to even have a chance of playing that high quality

There are currently no default tools built into Windows that you can use to resize videos. You can use Windows Movie Maker to edit videos and add transitions, etc, but not to change the actual video resolution.

Table of Contents

If you do a search for RESIZE VIDEOS in Google, you’ll get a list of a bunch of commercial applications that you would have to shell out cash for! So if you’re lucky enough to have run across this post, I’ll show you a couple of free ways to resize videos quickly and easily.

HandBrake is my all time favorite utility for converting and encoding videos. Basically, it can take as input pretty much any video file you can throw at it and it gives you two options for output: MP4 and MKV. You can also pick from three video codecs for the two video containers: H.264, MPEG-4 and MPEG-2.

You’ll see the progress of the conversion at the bottom of the program window. The amount of time will depend on the original size and encoding of your video.

VirtualDub is a free video capture and video processing software app. It doesn’t have many of the video editing features that you would find in Adobe Premiere, but it is streamlined for performing linear operations on video very fast. It also has batch-processing capabilities for processing large number of video files.

You can do a TON of stuff with VirtualDub, including add special effects to your videos such as blurs, black and white, flipping, and lots more. However, we’ll only going to go over how you can use it to resize your videos. It should be noted that VirtualDub works best on AVI files and will require additional codecs installed in order to work with other files types like AVCHD, MP4, etc.

First download VirtualDub and extract it to a folder on your hard drive. VirtualDub does not require any installation; it simply runs directly via an EXE! That means it doesn’t mess around with your registry or anything else in Windows.

Browse to the location of your video and open it. You’ll now see your video appear twice in the main window. This is because the left one is considered your original and the right one is your “processed” or altered version. When you apply a filter to your video, the right one updates and you can watch both at the same time! Cool!

You should now see your original video on the left and your processed video on the right, in my case, half the size!

Freemake Video Converter

I would have recommended Freemake Video Converter over VirtualDub because it accepts so many different video formats as input, but I purposely am listing it last because the installer for the program has a lot of junkware. This is not malware or spyware, but it’s just junk that you would not want on your system.

I really like this program because it has a ton of options that will let you get your video onto pretty much any device you can think of. I really just wish they didn’t try to bundle that crapware along with the installer! You can even send the video directly to YouTube, convert it to HTML5 compatible format, convert it to Xbox and Playstation format and even burn to DVD or Blu-ray disc right from the program. If you’re an Apple user, you’ll love the to Apple option, which lets you pick the exact device you want the video to be played on.
