Google Play Pass is out, but far from perfect. We took a dive into the app to discover some of its flaws. Most of them are fairly minor and indicative to a new service. We found there were more than half a dozen voice recorder apps and Sudoku games. We posit that Google needs to bring more high end apps and games into the service to properly compete with the likes of Apple Arcade. Hit the link for more details.

It’s possible to play Call of Duty: Mobile on your PC. Gameloop, a re-branded Android emulator for PC, boasts support for the game for the low, low price of free. Gameloop was Tencent Gaming Buddy in a previous life, but now stands as its own product. You can still download it for other emulators like Bluestacks. However, Gameloop has Tencent’s blessing as the official Call of Duty: Mobile emulator. It’s a neat experience overall.

Google’s Halloween decorations are macabre and hilarious this year. The company put up a little garden with the gravestones of a bunch of canceled Google products. You can find the image at the link, but there are gravestones for Orkut, Google+, Google Reader, Google Buzz, and a few others. It’s great for, well, people like us, but it has to be weird for Google employees hitting the campus and seeing a reminder of a half a dozen of their failures.

Microsoft launched a large update for its Your Phone app this week. The new update lets you field phone calls from your computer. You can initiate, accept, or deny phone calls straight from the desktop with Windows 10’s native notification center. The only caveat is both devices need Bluetooth support in order for everything to work.

Perfect World Mobile

Price: Free to play

Perfect World Mobile is a free to play mobile game. It launched in September but we wanted to cover it anyway. The original game was an MMORPG from about 12 years ago. This version isn’t nearly the same, but it has many of the common elements. It plays like an MMORPG on mobile. You create a character, explore a huge open world, and fight off various bad guys in a variety of quests. The game also features multiplayer dungeons and some other game perks. There is quite a grind at higher levels, but that’s a problem with most mobile MMORPGs.

Grobo

Shudder

Price: Free / $5.99 per month

Shudder is a video streaming service from AMC. It specializes in horror movies. The service couldn’t have picked a better month for its debut. There are a bunch of movies and TV shows on Shudder, including a bunch of old classics such as the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. There are even curated lists from folks like Rob Zombie. The streaming quality is fine, but nothing special. You won’t find any 4k HDR streams here. It’s not a bad service to try out during Halloween season. You can try a free trial for a week. The service runs $5.99 per month after that.

DIGIMON ReArise

Price: Free to play

DIGIMON ReArise is the latest Digimon title from Bandai Namco. The game features an entirely original story apart from all of the other properties. Otherwise, it plays like your classic gacha card dueling game. There are single and multiplayer modes, including PvP up to five versus five. The gacha elements are a little restrictive compared to many gacha games and that has many early adopters complaining about the game. However, other than that, the game seems to excel in its other elements.

5 Android Apps You Shouldn’T Miss This Week

A report circulated this week outlines Elon Musk’s alleged ideas to increase Twitter’s revenue. Among the ideas includes monetizing tweets, increasing celebrity engagement, and slashing the salaries of high-level executives. It was apparently part of his bid to buy Twitter. We don’t know how feasible a lot of that stuff is, but you can hit the link to learn more about it.

Google is giving people more power to remove personally identifiable information from the web. This week, Google gave people the ability to request that phone numbers, email addresses, and physical addresses be removed from Google Search results. Google processes the requests in a few days and your information should be gone. We like this move a lot and recommend that people do it.

Last week, we talked about the shutdown of the disaster that was CNN Plus. It turns out, it was worse than we thought because it actually shut down two days early. It was set to shut down on April 30th, but shut down on April 28th instead. It’s one of the worst streaming services launches of all time and draws comparison to Quibi quite a lot.

Several major tech companies were duped into giving personal data to hackers. The process is a little complicated. However, the short version is that hackers pretended to be a legitimate company and submitted fake legal requests. The big tech companies responded and gave away data. Google, Apple, Twitter, Discord, and several others were included. Hit the link to learn more.

The Google Play Store now shows you how apps collect and share your data. It’s 100% mandatory for app developers to include this data starting from July 20th, 2023. The information includes what data is collected, how it is used, what third parties it shares with, and several other pieces of data. You should see this rolling out in the coming weeks.

Phantom

Price: Free

Phantom is a crypto wallet that was originally for desktop browsers. The company launched its Android and iOS apps a couple of weeks ago. The app boasts many of the same features as the wallet itself, including quick transactions, low fees, and Solana DAPPs for increased functionality. As an app, it’s not terrible but it definitely still needs some optimizations. It tends to load slowly and becomes occasionally unresponsive. However, a little tweaking here and there and the app should prove to be very useful. People who already use Phantom should definitely check it out.

Seven Mortal Sins X-Tasy

Price: Free to play

Seven Mortal Sins X-Tasy is a mobile JRPG with the usual gacha elements. You play through the story while you summon and upgrade your units. Some other game features include voice actors, the story having unique reactions based on player decisions, and hidden stories for your characters to unlock and play. The honeymoon phase is quite free-to-play friendly, although the grind does catch up to you eventually. It’s definitely one of the better options for this genre in recent memory.

Mastodon

Echoes of Mana

Price: Free

Echoes of Mana is the latest gacha RPG from Square Enix. This one revolves around the existing Mana series. It plays like many Square Enix gachas where you can summon new and old characters from the Mana series, play through a storyline, and enjoy a bit of nostalgia mixed with a bit of newness. This one is a bit more aggressive in terms of microtransactions than most Square Enix gachas and some of the gameplay is a bit stuttery on lower-end devices, but Square Enix will continue to improve over the long term so keep an eye on this one.

5 Best Keepass Companion Apps For Android

If you use KeePass to manage your passwords, you’ve probably thought about how you can manage those passwords on Android. As it stands, there isn’t an official KeePass management app for Android. This is a shame, as it would make things easy, having one app on multiple systems.

Regardless, KeePass fans have taken it upon themselves to make some companion apps: programs that can work with your password databases to help you bring that wonderful KeePass management to your phone. So, what one is the best? Let’s find out!

1. KeePassMob Password Manager

Perhaps the best implementation of what we could see from an “official” KeePass Android app, KeePassMob supports KeePass 1.x as well as the 2.x file format. It also includes support for Dropbox, chúng tôi OneDrive and others for cloud backup. The app also supports password generation, and many, many other features.

Out of all of the ones on the list, KeePassMob is hands down the most user-friendly and good looking. If you’re trying to find a modern app for your KeePass needs, this should be one of the first apps you take for a spin!

2. KeePassDroid

When people talk about using KeePass on Android, few recommend anything other than KeePassDroid. It’s a simple app that supports read and write support for both versions of KeePass. That’s not it, though, as they have some other killer features too: mainly Google Drive support and password generation.

Though many admit KeePassDroid isn’t the most user-friendly app in existence, once you get past the learning curve, you might grow to love everything about it. If you want a competent KeePass manager, definitely check this one out!

3. KeepShare Lite for KeePass

KeepShare Lite is a free version of the KeepShare KeePass manager for Android. Though it’s not as full-featured as the paid version, it still has some enticing and robust things to offer. With this app you’ll be able to use KeePass 2.x password files, autofill support, cloud provider support, full database browsing and much, much more. If you’re looking for a cool way to keep track of your passwords, check it out!

4. Keepass2Android

Looking for a good KeePass 2 password safe for Android? Keepass2Android has you covered. For starters, it integrates with just about any Android browser; lets you upload password database files to various cloud providers like Drobox, Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.; and has an integrated keyboard to protect you from clipboard exploits.

If you’ve tried the other apps on the list and found they came up short, you should give Keepass2Android a go!

5. Keepass2Android Offline

We’ve already talked about Keepass2Android in #4, but this app deserves a mention too. It essentially does everything that the online app does, except this time it doesn’t need an Internet connection. Everything can be done completely offline. The features it sports are comparable – if not identical – to the online app, so we won’t say anything here. However, if you loved Keepass2Android but have connectivity issues, this is the logical choice.

Conclusion

These apps aren’t blessed by the KeePass project by any means. And sure, it would be really nice if the KeePass team got together and made one official Android application that does all of the things these companion apps do, but no matter.  Don’t let this fact discourage you. Each and every one of these companion apps is great if what you want is to bring the might of KeePass password management to Android.
