Suggested March 2024 28 Movies Released Early Via Streaming

The coronavirus outbreak has caused lots of movie theaters to shut down for the past several months. As a result, many films that were released just before the crisis hit made their debut on digital movie stores, or via streaming services. Also, other films originally set for a theatrical release have either been delayed or have bypassed theaters completely. Here’s a look at the movies that were released to digital stores and streaming services, plus movies that cut out theaters completely.

Movies released or will be released via streaming because of Coronavirus:

The Hunt

This movie was supposed to be released in theaters back in September 2023. It got pulled off the schedule due to criticisms of its plot by both conservative and liberal groups. Universal finally released The Hunt in theaters on March 13, just before theaters started to close. It quickly went to digital movie stores later in March. It depicts an event held by rich liberals where they hunt people they deem to be conservative for sport.

This is the latest movie adaptation of the much-loved novel by Jane Austen. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the title character, a woman in 19th-century England’s high society who tries to make love connections for her friends but doesn’t seem to have much luck in love herself.

The movie was released to theaters in late February 2023, a few weeks before theaters shut down. It quickly was released to digital movie stores in March 2023.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The final installment of the Skywalker saga is finally here. While it was a bit underwhelming to many, it’s still part of the Star Wars franchise and holds a special place in our hearts. The movie follows Rey, Finn, and Poe as they lead the final battle against Kylo Ren and the First Order. It’s a Star Wars movie, so you must watch it!

The movie was released in December 2023 in movie theaters, but Disney moves up its digital release a few months ahead of schedule. You can purchase it for a stand alone digital movie, or you can sign up for Disney Plus to watch it now on the streaming service.

The Way Back

Ben Affleck has a great performance in this sports drama. He plays a man who was once a great high school basketball player but is now struggling in life. However, he gets another chance as he’s hired by his old high school to coach the basketball team and bring it back to greatness.

The movie was released to theaters in March 2023, just before theaters shut down. It quickly was released to digital movie stores later in March. It’s now available to stream via HBO Max.

Vin Diesel plays Ray Garrison, an elite soldier who gets killed in battle. Ray is brought back to life with superhuman strength and fast healing powers, which he uses to try and go after the person who killed his wife. He soon finds out his reality is not what it seems, though. Can he even trust himself?

Now the filmed musical is available to watch on the Disney Plus streaming service.

The One and Only Ivan

This is a Disney movie, based on the award-winning children’s book, about a silverback gorilla who is taken from the wild by a human, and turned into an attraction at a mall along with other wild animals. The movie was supposed to be released to theaters in August. However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is now available on Disney Plus.

Bill and Ted Face the Music

Disney planned to release this live-action adaptation of its classic animated movie in theaters in March. The coronavirus outbreak made the studio delay those plans. The movie is now available to stream via Disney Plus.

Wonder Woman 1984

Warner Bros

The long-delayed DC Comics superhero sequel, starring Gal Gadot as the immortal Amazon Diana, launched in theaters and the US in December 2023 when they were open. It is now available for several months on HBO Max.

Samsung Gear S2 Details Released In Full

Samsung Gear S2 details released in full [UPDATE: more images]

Three versions of Samsung’s newest smartwatch, the Gear S2, have been revealed today. Each of the three, the Samsung Gear S2, Gear S2 classic, and Gear S2 3G will come with round faces and Tizen for their software platform. While the Gear S2 and S2 classic will come with Wi-fi connectivity, a Gear S2 3G version will also be released with the same specifications save a slot for a 3G SIM card. Each of these devices will also come with Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC, and will be released likely by the end of the year.

According to Samsung, the difference between the Gear S2 and the Gear S2 classic is design preference. The Gear S2 classic is made for users who “prefer a more timeless watch design.” This device has a black finish and a matching “genuine leather” band. The Gear S2, on the other hand, is made for “those who are on-the-go and have an admiration for minimal and modern design.”

The Gear S2 will have two different color combinations, one in Dark Gray with a Dark Gray band, the other in Silver with a White band. Again, the Gear S2 classic will be all black and black.

Samsung Gear S2 and Samsung Gear S2 classic:

• Display: 1.2″, Circular Super AMOLED, 360×360, 302ppi

• Processor: unnamed Dual core 1.0 GHz

• OS: TIZEN for wearables

• Audio: Codec: MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, Format: MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG

• RAM: 512MB

• Internal Storage: 4GB

• Dimensions: Gear S2 : 42.3×49.8×11.4mm (47g) Gear S2 classic : 39.9×43.6×11.4mm (42g)

• Battery: 250mAh wireless charging

• Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer

• Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n

• Special Features: IP68 dust and water resistant

Samsung Gear S2 3G:

• Display: 1.2″, Circular Super AMOLED, 360×360, 302ppi

• Processor: unnamed Dual core 1.0 GHz

• OS: TIZEN for wearables

• Audio: Codec: MP3/AAC/AAC+/eAAC+, Format: MP3, M4A, AAC, OGG

• RAM: 512MB

• Internal Storage: 4GB

• Dimensions: 44.0 x 51.8 x 13.4mm (51g)

• Battery: 250mAh wireless charging

• Sensors: Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, Barometer

• Connectivity: Bluetooth 4.1, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, 3G

• Special Features: IP68 dust and water resistant

Samsung suggests that the Wi-fi editions of these devices will last between 2-3 days, while the 3G version will last closer to 2 days.

UPDATE: Above you’ll see a gallery with more images of the Gear S2, S2 3G, and S2 classic.UPDATE 2: The Samsung Gear S2 “both Bluetooth and 3G connected models” will be available from Verizon. So says Verizon – without availability dates or pricing – but there it is!

Samsung also mentions today that the Gear S2 with 3G will work with the first-ever e-SIM with voice capability. They say that this means that users will be able to “perform quick functions without being closely tethered to their phone,” which to us makes it seem like the SIM card is doing voice processing, which would be… very strange. It’s far more likely that the SIM would continue to provide data while the smartwatch’s processor does the heavy lifting.

Samsung’s inclusion of NFC here means users will be able to make mobile payments with their wrist. At this time we’re unaware of any currently-active apps for mobile payments on Tizen, but we’d be unsurprised if the first were Samsung Pay.

Pricing and retail release has not yet been revealed for the Gear S2, Gear S2 classic, or Gear S2 3G.

Vampire Survivors Early Access Review

Vampire Survivors Early Access Review

If you’re a PC gamer or a regular Twitch user, there’s at least a decent chance you’ve heard of Vampire Survivors by now. Over the past couple of weeks, the early access indie game has been enjoying a steady rise in popularity thanks to various Twitch streamers, its simplistic gameplay, and its minuscule $3 price tag. After hearing about the game from a couple of friends and seeing a few of my favorite Twitch streamers play it, I picked up the title on Friday and promptly lost large chunks of my weekend to this surprisingly addictive game.Note: This review is based on an early access build of Vampire Survivors from February 1st, 2023. If you’re reading this long after that date, there’s a good chance the game has undergone substantial changes that may render this review either partially or wholly irrelevant. The author personally purchased Vampire Survivors for this review.

It’s funny, because Vampire Survivors has all the makings of a game you’d pass over when browsing through Steam. It has simplistic graphics and a low price that, together, basically scream “low-budget shovelware.” It’s a prime example of the old adage, “Never judge a book by its cover,” because it would be a grave mistake to skip Vampire Survivors based on its screenshots and price.

I’m not going to act like Vampire Survivors is the best game ever, but it’s a ton of fun. As the trailer suggests, Vampire Survivors has roots in the bullet hell genre, but it swaps the dynamic. Rather than being the ones who need to dodge a screen full of bullets, players have to clear screens full of enemies that slowly swarm them from all angles.

As you destroy enemies, you level up and can select new auto-firing weapons or accessories that improve certain metrics like damage or movement speed, though you can also upgrade the weapons and items you already have. Eventually, you’ll be shooting off six different super-powered weapons and clearing hundreds of enemies at a time.

As all of this plays out, you simply move around the field to collect items that drop from light sources (a callback to Castlevania, along with many of the weapons) and experience gems that drop from enemies. Accessories give passive increases to your stats and every weapon in the game auto-fires on a specific cooldown. You can move using a mouse or by using the WASD keys, but that’s all you need to do. In that sense, it’s a casual game – anyone can play it, and it doesn’t take very long to learn.

However, there is some depth when it comes to characters and builds. Vampire Survivors lets you play as a variety of characters, most of which you’ll have to unlock as you play. Each character has a certain perk, as well. For instance, one might get a boost to the area of effect size while another gets an extra projectile as a baseline bonus, so you’ll determine which weapons and accessories to chase based on the character you’re playing. At least, that’s the way it would work in an ideal world, but every time you level up, you’re forced to select from a random list of upgrades, and sometimes you don’t get the upgrades you’re looking for.

In light of that, and though Vampire Survivors is a simple game, you have to put some thought into it if you want to successfully complete runs. As you play, you’ll earn gold that can be spent between rounds, either on new characters or on upgrades that apply to every character and persist between runs. That’s where Vampire Survivors’ roguelike roots start to show, as you always feel like you’re working toward something even when you can’t seem to get a good run going.

Like any casual game that has found broad appeal – be it Flappy Bird, Candy Crush, Among Us, or even Wordle in some regards – Vampire Survivors succeeds because it’s easy to pick up and learn but not necessarily easy to win. Even though the only thing you need to do is move and determine your build as you level up, Vampire Survivors is not an easy game. If you want to complete a stage, you’ll need to survive a full 30 minutes, which obviously gets more difficult as you get deeper into a run. By the end, enemies will completely fill the screen and surround you, leaving you only with the hope that your build can pump out enough damage to keep you safe.

I don’t expect Vampire Survivors will be a long-burn type of game for most people. Instead, I think most people will get their fill after around 15 hours of gameplay. Of course, if you’re determined to unlock every achievement, buy every upgrade, or beat the game with every character, you’ll be playing quite a bit longer than that, but for most people, this is going to be a breezy affair. Vampire Survivors will suck up all your free time for a few days, but then you’ll likely put it down and move on to the next thing.

Since it’s priced at $3, that’s entirely okay with me. I can already feel that I’m nearing the end of my time with the game for now – I only have two more achievements to unlock and that’ll be enough to get me to move on – but I will most certainly be back. Poncle, the game’s developer, says the title should be in early access for around a year, and there’s plenty more content on the way to release. In the full game, we’re told to expect “more characters, stages, weapons, and RPG elements, and new major features like Story mode and Arcanas.”

That has me excited for sure, and I can’t wait to see how Vampire Survivors evolves over the course of the next year. Poncle also says the price is going up as more content is added, so I suggest getting in on the ground floor and picking it up now for $3, as the content that’s already there more than justifies the price tag. I’m not usually one to recommend early access games – especially those closer to the beginning of their early access journey than the end – but at three bucks, Vampire Survivors is an outright steal.
